materials in this collection date from 1875 to the present.

1. Scrapbook dating from 1918-1919 that was created by Bertha Irene Garee (1898-
1935) while she was a student at Indiana State Normal School from 1915-1919. She
graduated from ISNS in 1919, and became a teacher and bookkeeper who lived at 865
Grant Street in Indiana, Pennsylvania. In 1922, Bertha Irene Garee married Harry D.
McLain. Mrs. McLain’s scrapbook was donated by her grandson William Simmons
and his wife Patricia Klausing Simmons ’72 in 2009. Scrapbook contains
correspondence, memorabilia including dentures and cigarettes, Indiana Board of
Health certificate (during the 1918 influenza epidemic), newspaper articles,

photographs, and programs from Indiana State Normal School. Additional material
donated by the Simmons family is in Manuscript Group 155.

of Indiana State Normal School’s campus building John Sutton Hall (1873-
1875), and the establishment of Indiana State Normal School in 1875.
