Q1 e've been talking about something that you made and I'd like to dis2uss one or

two more :uestions that are related to this. ;irstly let's 2onsider hand9made

    versus ma2hine9made items. &an you 2omment on the popularity o5 hand9made

    versus ma2hine9made produ2ts in your 2ountry!

    A1 En%ortunately& these days hand-#ade ite#s tend to be #ore e$pensi!e than #achine-

    #ade and as a result #achine-#ade ite#s are #ore popular in #y country...because

theyre cheaper. 8 think this is due to labour costs. 8% a #achine can produce large

"uantities o% products auto#atically& this will always be cheaper when co#pared tohu#an labour. A person needs to be paid a wage& but a #achine...well& it can work

    day and night& 8 guess.

Q" Are there any things in your 2ountry whi2h are only made by hand!

    A" 9nly hand#ade...well& 8 know that so#e types o% %urniture are only hand#ade. 9%

course this %urniture is "uite a lot #ore e$pensi!e and generally (o%* betterconstruction than the....u##...#achine #ade. Another thing that co#es to #ind is

    ewellery. @ost wo#en desire a uni"ue piece o% ewelry...8 know #y wi%e...when 8

got a ring #ade %or #y wi%e it was co#pletely hand #ade...in %act& we ga!e thedesign we wanted to the eweller and he #ade it by hand. 8 guess there are other

Q3 o you think in the 5uture that handmade produ2ts will no longer be made!

A3 Thats an interesting "uestion. 9% course we understand that #achine #ade productsare cheaper to #ake. The botto# line %or co#panies is that they need to #ake pro%its.

    8% a co#pany can #ake #ore and #ore products and pay less and less to #ake the#&then 8 belie!e that #echanisation will win o!er hand-#ade products.

Q( #k. I'd like us to lastly 2onsider 2reativity in general. o you think people learn

2reativity or is it something that 2omes naturally!

    A( Learn creati!ity...do people learn creati!ity...###. Well& 8 know so#e creati!e

people& especially artists& and 8 say to the#& how can you draw like thatC ?ou know 8

can only draw stick %igures but they can draw in such detail. They usually say to #e&

8!e always been able to draw and it co#es naturally to #e. 8 think that i% youre goodat so#ething and i% you like it& you spend ti#e at it. So what usually happens is the

naturally good artists tend to draw #ore so they get better and better.

    Q) o you think that there are more or less 2reative people living in your 2ountry

    today!

    A) Well...#ore or less creati!e...in #y country we are o%ten co#ing up with newin!entions especially in the area o% +en!iron#entally %riendly products,. 8 saw in the

    newspaper recently that a new de!ice %or re#o!ing - or at least reducing - carbon#ono$ide in !ehicle e#issions was #ade a!ailable to the public. 8 dont re#e#ber

how it worked but 8 re#e#ber thinking that there are still creati!e people around in#y country so 8 guess 8 would ha!e to say that there are still so#e around& but

whether there are #ore or less than in the past& 8 couldnt say with any certainty.

    Q0 hat might be the e55e2ts o5 redu2ed 2reativity in so2iety!

    A0 Well& i% people are less creati!e& then 8 belie!e society as a whole su%%ers. We need

    creati!e people& proble# sol!ers who are able to %ind proble#s and de!ise solutions.8 guess i% a society beco#es lay& you know& sitting all day and night in %ront o% the

    tele!ision& i% they ha!e no goals or a#bitions in li%e& nothing to dri!e the# toward

    achie!e#ent& then creati!ity su%%ers and society& 8 belie!e would su%%er. People

would loose the spark or interest in li%e& it would be a terrible thing %or any society tolose its creati!e people)
