    47. Describe something you really want to buy in the future

    49. Describe a vehicle you would like to buy (or own)

I guess everyone has their own long list of things that they would like to buy in the future. To

me, the first thing that popped into my head is a personal car.

Due to my family’s financial difficulties, I mostly used public transport in my student life andyou have to agree with me that traffic in Vietnam is terrible, especially during the peak hour .

Every time, I get on the bus in the rush hour, I feel very tired and often get car sick. Thus, as

soon as I graduated from university, I have been dreaming of having my own car.

The car I want to buy is a Kia Morning manufactured by Honda. This is a good – looking carwhich is also fuel efficient. Furthermore, its price is not too extravagent so I probably can

afford it in the near future. It would be really unrealistic and impossible for a fresh graduate

like me to buy a sky - high car, such as Camry or Mecedes Benz.

Having a personal car could save me from bad traffic situations. And convenience is another

important reason to own a car. I would never have to wait for a bus and stay in the longqueue. And I can avoid bad traffic by taking an alternative route instead of suffering for

    hours in a crowded bus.

    43. Describe an interesting website you have visited.

I surf on the internet almost every day so if I make a list of useful websites, the list would be

very long. I would like to talk about Google, the website that I find very useful for me. Google

is the most visited website in the world as well as the best search engine currently.

A couple of years ago, one of my friends suggested me this website and I have used it ever

since. It allows me to search for any query or anything I want. All I need to do is typing some

key words in a searching box and waiting for just few seconds to have a long list of possible

answers for my wonder. I can search for websites, video, news, images, and information in

any fields. Nowadays this website has become so popular that even my niece, a 5 year  – oldgirl, knows about Google.

For me, this website is a great place to find information, references, academic books,

stories, news, websites and anything I want to know and find. It is indeed an ultimate tool for

searching, an innovation in the technology world, which has transformed the whole society

for years. Thanks to it, now people have easier access to an endless source of

information available on Earth. To me, it has been a great and unreplaceable tool in my

    student life.

    41. Describe a family member you would like to work with

If I have to choose a family member to work with, I would love to work with my father. He is

quite tall, slim and athletic. He gets on well with other people because he has a good

    sense of humor.

There are several reasons why I would like to work with my father. Firstly, as we share the common interest in accounting, I know that if I have a chance to work with him, I will learn a

lot from him. My father currently is working as an accountant and this is also my major at

university. Thus, I often come to him for help whenever I struggle to understand accounting

materials. He never made everything complicated for me. He is always willing to give

guidance on young people like me and try to find the easiest way for me to cope with any

problem. Furthermore, he is a man of integrity because he always knows how to distinguish

    between personal matters and work.

Having witnessed his devotion for work, I was inspired to study hard day in and day out to

make significant progress in my study. I always want to follow his footstep and I hope that

one day, I will have an opportunity to work with him.

    36. Describe an unusual building you have visited

    39. Describe a historical building in your country/ hometown.

Among a number of historical buildings in Hanoi, One – Pillar Pagoda is my most favoritespot. From my perspective, it is one of Vietnam’s most iconic pagodas.

Located within Ho Chi Minh Complex, asides from Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum,

the Pagoda is a very popular tourist attraction. It was conducted by Emperor Ly Thai Tong in

1049. According to legend, ageing Emperor Ly Thai To of the Ly dynasty, who had no

children, used to go to pagodas to pray to Buddha for a son. One night, he dreamt that he

was granted a baby boy by the Buddha, who seated on a great lotus flower in a square-

shaped lotus pond on the western side of Thang Long Citadel. Thus, the pagoda of lotus  – shape was constructed with one pillar in the middle of a lotus pond in gratitude for  this

    significant legendary event.

I often take my foreign friends here to introduce them this unique attraction along with this

Vietnamese great legendary story. To me, One – Pillar Pagoda reflects the architecturalsplendor  that Vietnam has developed for centuries. Besides, as its name literally means

long lasting happiness and good luck, every time I come here, I feel peace and joy for my

    mind.

    24. Describe something you do to (help you) stay healthy

I wake up very early in the morning and then walk for two hours every day. Waking up early

and doing some physical exercise is the healthy habit I have developed for months.

You would normally think that doing exercise is just the way to keep fit. However, it brings

you many benefits that you cannot imagine. As I read the article about healthy life before, doing exercise can help to slow down the aging process. The elderly who enjoy mild

exercise, such as gardening, are half as likely to suffer from cognitive impairment as they

age. Children who walk to school tend to concentrate better and get better test results than

those given lift in the car.

Having acknowledged that, I wake up from bed at around 5am and wear my favorite pair of

sports shoes. Then, I start walking along the road that goes around the big lake near my

house. Sometimes, I ride a bicycle to the nearby park instead of walking. Taking a deep

breath of pure morning air freshens my mind and gives me energy to start a new day. A

sound mind lies on a sound body and I believe that this habit is very helpful for keeping a

sound mind and maintaining good health.

    28. Describe a childhood song you remember well.

My mother often sang a lullaby titled ‘Good night, sleeping baby” in my bed time and I heardit so many times in my childhood that I can still remember it very vividly. This was a song

usually famous in the rural area of our country that mothers often use to soothe the baby and

to send them in sleep. It was an 8-10 lines song with great harmony and the way my mother

sang it was extraordinary. It still echoes in my head and I miss those days.

I can remember my mother often sang this song till I got in secondary school. I was touched

by the lyrics and in my childhood, I often imagined that the verses used in this song were

true and would happen to me one day.

We often remember things from childhood, specially the stories or songs we heard with great

enthusiasm. This song was no exception. I heard it hundreds of times and as a child, I

fantasized about those things. That is the main reason I still remember it very clearly.Perhaps someday when I become a mother, I will sing this song to my children as well. This

has in fact become a permanent memory, an unreplaceable part of my childhood.

    25. Describe an exciting sport you know -> football

There are many kinds of sports which people like playing these days, such as baseball,

basketball, volleyball, and cricket but I would like to talk about football which is so-called the

    king of sports.

Football is the popular kind of sports in almost all countries in the world. Basically, it is acollective game with 2 teams and each team has 11 players. The main purpose is that

players try to keep their goal safe and kick the ball to the net of their opponents. Scores are

recorded and the winner is the team having higher scores.

It is the most famous sports in my country and all of my family members favor this sports,

especially my father and my brother. Thus, I had a chance to approach this sports since I

was 7 years old. I really love watching it because of the drama and surprise in each match.

From my perspectives, it is really difficult to play well. A player needs to be very strong to

compete with others, and be skillful in ball controlling, heading as well as having team spirit.

A good football team needs to have solidarity as well as the ability to control the game.

Therefore, normally there is a coach for each team and this person is not less famous than

    other players.

    29. Describe a happy family event from your childhood that you remember well.

There are numerous happy events in my life that I can recall and among them, I would like totalk about the time when my family gathered to make the Chung cake for the Tet holiday.

The Lunar New Year, or Tet, is a very special traditional holiday in my country. It was

probably my most favorite holiday when I was a small girl as my family had a lot of activities

to celebrate this occasion. Among them, making the Chung cake made me excited the

most. The Chung cake is made of glutinous rice, green beans and fat pork, wrapped in

banana leaves in the shape of a square. I often played with my older brother when my

parents prepared the ingredients for the cake. And then, my father lit a small fire to boil the

    cake overnight.

It was perhaps the only time of the year when I was allowed to stay up late. While my family

was sitting around the warm fire, my grandmother would tell the old legendary story aboutthe Chung cake to commemorate the filial affection of Lang Lieu prince to his father and

remind us of the long – lasting Vietnamese tradition.

In recent years, my family has not had enough time for making the Chung cake on our own.

However, to me, a ready – made Chung cake that we buy from a local market cant bring thespecial feeling and replace the taste of a Chung cake from my childhood. I hope that my

family can continue our tradition in the coming years.

    27. Describe a special toy you had in your childhood

I have many toys in my childhood and at different stages, I prefer different toys. However,

among them, a Teddy bear is the most special one to me and I still keep it at my closet until

    now.

I guess that all kids love a furry friend and so did I. However, what made the bear reallyspecial to me was that this was a gift from my father on an occasion of my 5th birthday.

Everything about it was so different from other stuffed bears. At that time, my father was

working far away and I missed him so much. I thought that he could not come back to

celebrate my birthday party as he had did before. To my surprise, on my birthday, he

suddenly came home and brought with him a lovely Teddy bear. Missing him, I ran into him

and my father gave me big hug, then kissed me. I was so excited about the Teddy bear.

When I squeezed it, it said I LOVE YOU by the most sweet and lovely voice on Earth.

Looking at it made me immediately think about my beloved father. His physical presence on

my birthday was like gold to me. You know, it is really hard to not have one of the most

important people to you in your birthday. I would never forget that special moment and theTeddy bear means so much to me.

    19. Describe a paid job you ever did or someone you know ever did

I remembered the time when I enjoyed working as a waitress/waiter at a cafeteria in the

campus. It happened few years ago while I was a sophomore student in university. I learnt

about this job from an online advertisement and I immediately jumped at the chance. Despiteof being a business major, I still enjoyed this job very much as it offered me so many

    opportunities for self – development.

My main responsibilities included serving food and drinks for customers and assisting the

chefs in preparing for meals at peak hours such as lunch time or dinner time. At the end of

each day, we also performed cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors,

vacuuming carpets and tidying up server station. There were 10 other students working at

the same post as me on a 4 – hour shift basis. We registered our shifts based on ourpersonal schedules so it is very flexible.

I loved this job for several reasons. Firstly, it offered me enough money to afford the cost of

living and support my parents in covering a part of my tuition fee. Secondly, it gave me anopportunity to expand social networks by making friends and talking with many people from

different backgrounds around the campus. Furthermore, I learnt vital soft skills, such as

communication and teamwork skills, which are very important and beneficial to me.

    18. Describe an educational TV program that you have seen.

Over the course of my life, I have been watching a lot of television programs, ranging from

scientific to reality shows. However, the TV program that I am addicted to is the Apprentice

on NBC channel. The show airs for about 30 minutes, twice a week. The show is hosted by

Donal Trump, one of the richest and most powerful billionaires in the world.

There are often 10 people in each episode and all the participants are young, dynamic,

enthusiastic and talented people from all walks of life. Despite of different backgrounds, they

all share the same dream of becoming successful people, which is the very reason why they

     join this program.

The Apprentice is regarded among one of the most popular educational TV programs.

Watching this program, I can gain a deeper insight into the business world and about

obstacles that people have to encounter and overcome in order to succeed.

This program is useful for not only business people but also young people like me. It inspires

us and motivates us to advance in our career paths.

    14. Describe a special trip you would like to go on in the future

    17. Describe an educational trip you went on

Last year, I and my friends decided to take a trip to Mu Cang Chai, located in the

mountainous area in the Northern of Vietnam. There were ten of us and we all studied in the

    same class in university.

We travelled by car from Hanoi to Tu Le and then, we continued our trip with motorbike from

there. By doing this, we could stop at any time and took a lot of wonderful pictures capturing

    picturesque and spectacular scenery.

Mu Cang Chai is among the most well – known tourist attractions in Vietnam, annuallyappealing both domestic and international visitors. After hours of driving, we eventually

arrived at Tu Le and headed to Mu Cang Chai. On our way, we were amazed by a vast

track of land full of yellow color. When being seen from afar, the terraced rice fields looked

like a picture of nature exhibiting its most alluring charm when the field is lush with ripeningrice.

We spent one night living at stilt house with a local host to gain an insight into the lives of

ethnic minority. Indeed, terraced rice fields in Mu Cang Chai coupled with distinctive cultural

practices of local ethnic minority groups created the uniqueness of the locality and offered us

a very amazing and unforgettable trip.

    13. Describe an indoor game that you liked to play when you were a child.

When I was a little girl, I enjoyed playing chess. It commenced when I was in primary

school. Because I was a very naughty girl and often hanged out with neighboring kids for

hours, my father taught me to play chess in hope of keeping me staying at home.

Every day, my father woke me up early and drove me to the sport center near my house. Iparticipated in a chess class with a teacher and other students. I was taught that chess is

probably the most prevalent board game in the world. There are two players in a game and

the winner would be the one who can trap the King of the other player.

Normally, the class took place for an hour but I often lingered for another half an hour to

rehearse with my classmates. I found it very challenging and difficult to learn the moves

but the passion for playing chess gradually grew in me, even without my acknowledgement. I

could stay at home all day long and play chess with my dad.

There were several reasons why I was craving for  playing chess. Firstly, playing this

intellectual game challenged myself and improved my logical thinking. In addition, I could

have a sense of satisfaction when outwitting my opponents tactically. Last but not least, I

made a lot of friends with talented children in my chess class and we still keep in touch until

    now.

    42. Describe an ambition you have not achieved yet.

I have a long desire to learn Chinese, a second foreign language, but even with my passion,

I still have not achieved it yet/ I have a long desire to learn Chinese, a second foreign

language, so being able to communicate in Chinese is my current goal.

This passion grew in me just few years ago when I watched a very inspiring movie about

Chinese history and culture. Then I decided that I had to learn Chinese in order to explore

more about this incredible nation. Besides, knowing more than one language is very

beneficial to not only my study but also my future career path.

Therefore, I registered for a Chinese course for beginners, which was hold 3 times a week. I

also downloaded many apps on my phone with the aim to study at home by myself. I drew

my own schedule so that I could make time for self - study, at least 1 hour per day. For the

first 3 months, I strictly followed my schedule. I did not skip any class and finished all thehomework as well as extra exercises that I was given in Chinese class.

Unfortunately, I could not keep up with my schedule for long. As I had a full  – time job at thattime, I was so busy that there were days when I had to work overtime or travelled faraway to

meet clients. I was unable to fully attend all the lessons, thereby finding it hard to keep pace

with other classmates. Moreover, after a tiring day, I often felt deadly tired and was unable to

concentrate on studying at home. So gradually, I abandoned my ambition and now I only

can remember a few Chinese words.

As currently, I have a full – time job, I am so busy that there are days when I have to workovertime or travel faraway to meet clients. Moreover, after a tiring day, I often feel deadly

tired and find it hard to concentrate on studying at home. However, just thinking about the

moments when I can speak Chinese gives me a sense of satisfaction, which encourages

me to study harder and better. Thus, I always remind myself that I have to keep up with my

schedule at any cost if I want to make my dream come true.

    26. Describe a time you were friendly to someone you didn’t like.

I would like to share with you my experience when I had to be friendly to one of my

classmates I did not like. In my second year of university, I had to collaborate with her to

carry out a group project in a financial investment class.

There were just two of us on the team, and our task was to invest in the simulation stock

market. We had to make decisions on choosing which stocks were profitable and worth our

investment. Each group’s performance would be compared weekly and at the end of thesemester, we would have to present our project in front of the whole class.

However, the problem was that we had never really like each other for several reasons.

Firstly, despite of the fact that we were at the same age, she always thought she was better

than me and disregarded my opinions. Furthermore, she was not responsible for ourproject. She often showed up late in group meetings and missed the deadline for her given

    tasks.

The project was vital as it contributed 50% to our final results of that semester. Therefore, I

had no choice but cooperated with her in order to finish the project. Despite our many

arguments, we completed the task on time and had an excellent group presentation. From

this experience, I learnt that sometimes you can work with others even though you do not

    get along with them.

    9. Describe a time that you and your friend had a disagreement

    11. Describe a team you have been part of

    38. Describe a project that you were once involved in (for example, a project at work

or a homework assignment at school or university).

During my student life, I had to participate in numerous team work projects, and having

disagreements with other team members was unavoidable. I would like to talk about a team

project that I was involved in during the junior year at university/to share with you my

experience when I disagreed with my friend.

There were two of us on the team, and our task was to invest in the simulation stock market.

We had to make decisions on choosing which stocks were profitable and worth our

investment. Each group’s performance would be compared weekly and at the end of thesemester, we would have to present our project in front of the whole class.

The project was vital as it contributed 50% to our final results of that semester. Besides,

being an investor is really a challenging task, especially when the Vietnam stock market isvolatile and unpredictable. Two of us fought for days to decide which companies had

showed the best performance and promised a bright future on the stock market. My friend

wanted to invest in a real estate company while I thought that an investment in real estate at

that time was an unwise choice.

Despite our arguments, we completed the task on time and had an excellent group

presentation. From this experience, I learned that it is very hard to be a good team member.

You would have to know how to present yourself while fitting in the group and each person

has to compromise to achieve a common goal.

    1. Describe a restaurant /café / meals

I have been to many restaurants here in Hanoi, but I am going to talk about Lotteria, a fast

food restaurant near my house. The restaurant is surrounded by trees, and it has a large

parking area, so it is convenient for us to get their by motorbike.

Inside the restaurant, there is a reception desk on the first floor where guests can make an

order. As soon as we enter the restaurant, the strong and addictive smell really makes us

crave for fast food meals/a cup of coffee. The restaurant is a quiet place with a classical style

of decoration with wooden tables and chairs. It also has a good air-conditioning system, which

is very comfortable for fast food lovers to visit.

The restaurant offers a wide range of choices, from hamburgers to pizzas to chips and cokes.

Last week we went there and ordered a small course of beef and fried chicken. Then we

brought it to the second floor where we chose a place to sit having a good view of streets. So,

we could eat the meal and watch people commuting on the road.

I usually go to this place every weekend to eat out with my family. There are many reasons

why I like this restaurant. First, it has free wifi, so I can surf the internet while enjoying the

meals/coffee. Secondly, all the staff members are really friendly, always welcoming guests

with a smile on their faces.

    8. Describe a picture or photograph in your family

     You should say:

    What is in the photo

Where this photo is in your homeHow this picture was taken

As I am interested in photography, I have taken thousands of photos. However, the most

meaningful photograph to me is the big one of my family. The picture is hung on the wall of

my living room and it is the first thing that everyone notices since the moment they walk into

    my house.

The photograph was taken one year ago on an occasion of summer holiday. It was the first

time that my family enjoyed the summer vacation together. We decided to go on a trip to Sam

Son beach which is one of the most popular destinations for summer holiday in my country.

The photo was probably the first picture of my whole family with my parents, my older brother,my little sister and me. It is such a brilliant photo, with every one standing on the beach and

smiling. The one behind the camera was a professional photographer who has a great eye for

photography. You can even see the crystal clear  water sparkling under the sunlight and the

seashore in the background. It was a scorching hot day, and the sky was blue with no clouds,

making it a perfect scene to take a photo.

The photo is very special to me. Whenever I feel unhappy, just looking at the picture cheers

me up right away. I believe that no matter what happens, my parents and my siblings will

always stand by me and support me.

    2. Describe a subject that you did not like in the past, but now you like it.

As a high school student, I learned a number of subjects. Among them, I was not really into

history at the first time. The reason was really simple: I disliked the teaching method of my

teacher. It was boring, and I will tell you why.

He was a lazy teacher, I thought. He just copied words, facts and figures from the book to

the board and made us to write down what he wrote. Then he told us to memorize all

information if we did not want to receive a low score for this subject. This made me and my

    classmates sick.

Later when I grew older, I had a chance to watch a movie about Vietnamese history. The

movie is about King Ly Cong Uan relocating the capital city from Ninh Binh to Hanoi more

than a thousand years ago. I really liked the film and realized that history is not as boring as I

thought. After that I managed to read more historical articles and watched more historical

movies, and now I am really interested in history.

I think the Ministry of Education should adjust the school curriculum or train teachers how to

deliver history lessons more successfully and attractively. Without any action, many

Vietnamese pupils still hold a negative attitude towards history.
