GATHERING TOGETHER
Our theme: Children, Youth & Mission
Children were precious to Jesus and we treasure
their presence among us. It is part of our mission
to disciple children and youth for a life of
knowing, loving and obeying Jesus as Lord and to
become world changers. We realise for some
churches, this is not a reality, as some are an aged
congregation with no young families attending,
for others, it is lack of volunteers or the skills to
run a children & youth ministry, as well as not
knowing what resources that are available to
them. We have seen how other presbyteries have
benefited by the Kids Friendly based programme
and a committed youth work and have seen
churches grown because of it. There is no sense in
reinventing the wheel! I am sure ministers and lay
leaders would greatly benefit from the workshops
provided. Come along and develop a mission
culture in your church, whether it be children and
youth work or some other mission focus. There is
a great sense in which we are all together in this!
MORNING WORKSHOPS
Option 1: Sticky Faith – growing disciples for life - Jill Kayser
This workshop explores and shares current research on keys to faith formation. It challenges some commonly held views and practices re Christian education and evangelism. We share practical ideas for nurturing children’s faith and reflect on how to invite children to practise Christianity and truly belong to the all age faith community.
Option 2: Information + Formation = Transformation - Gordon Fitch
In the first half of this workshop we will look at long range curriculum planning, and look at some awesome resources. But as well as imparting INFORMATION we need to intentionally add experiences that focus on FORMATION so that faith goes deeper and results in TRANSFORMATION. In the second half, we will look at 10 foundational pillars for faith formation.
Option 3: Developing a Missional Culture in your Church - Lisa Wells
AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS
Option 4: Re-imagining Church – growing disciples for life - Jill Kayser
This workshop encourages participates to reflect on why and how we could be church in new ways for secular NZ. We shares research and learnings from the Fresh Expressions movement in the UK and local stories of churches trying new ways of being “church” for all ages and stages.
Option 5: Starting a new youth ministry - Gordon Fitch
The good news is, we are finding that when churches have intentional leaders who start up new youth ministries in NZ, we are seeing really high success rates in getting the ministries off the ground. In this workshop we will explore strategies, what's working and what's not in New Zealand.
Option 6: Strategic Planning for Mission - Lisa Wells
