European Grid – Where are We Now ?

With communication technologies providing a system wide integration infrastructure, the smart grid will represent a prototypical “system of systems.” However, several challenges must first be addressed, and multiple and often conflicting criteria will need to be coordinated: profits, grid reliability, environmental impacts, equipment constraints, policies, technologies and consumer preferences.
