GCC-UTSG Conference Speaker Package 1

Welcome On behalf of the Global China Connection (GCC), we are thrilled to extend

an invitation to have you speak at our 2013 Conference, taking place in

Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from October 5th 6th, 2013.

With a network of university chapters at 66 top universities around the

world, GCC functions as a platform of cultural, educational, and

pre-professional development for aspiring future leaders. Since its inception

in 2008, GCC has hosted over 50 conferences through its chapter network in

China and North America. These conference attracted students who share

the same passion for business and culture exchange between China and the

West, and hope one day become global business and academic leaders. The

direct interaction with guest speakers and amazing networking

opportunities make the conference a unique and valuable experience for all.

For our past events, we have brought together notable speakers such as

CCTV anchor and journalist Yansong Bai, Chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia

Stephen Roach, and Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz among many others.

As a keynote speaker, your responsibilities would be to prepare a 30-45

minute keynote speech on a topic of your choice centered on the theme of

Chinas socio-economic development in the next five years. The basic

structure would be a brief introduction of your organization and your

position followed by a depiction of your experiences in the field and/or any

insights you would want to share about your field in general. Chinese need

not be the main language, as we can provide a translator if necessary. This

will be followed by a 15-20 minute question and answer session with the

audience.

We would be delighted if you would consider our invitation to share your

experiences. We are looking forward to working with you in the future. If you

have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach us by email or by

phone. We appreciate your consideration and are looking forward to

hearing from you!

Best Regards,

Shengyan Qu

Background

Earlier in 2012, China surpassed Great Britain and became the second-biggest trade partner of Canada. This marks a

new stage of Sino-Canada collaboration in the era of globalization. Meantime, high-level exchange between two

countries has been initiated. In 2009, the Canada-China Joint Statement was issued, stating five pillars in strategic

cooperation: governance, trade and investment, energy and environment, health, and education. Strong

people-to-people ties also exist between the two countries: over 1.3 million Canadian residents are of Chinese origin,

with well over 68,000 Chinese students at Canadian educational institutions. In 2012, the province of Ontario has

signed a collaborative innovation agreement with China, and we are expecting an extensive cooperation between

Toronto and China in the coming years. Therefore, we decide to host this conference in order to provide anyone who

is willing to seize this opportunity and make an impact in the near future.

Topics

(1) Employment Situation, North America VS. China

Approximately 100,000 international students come to study in Canada every year. After

completion of their study, staying in North America or going back to China inevitably

becomes the most crucial decision for them. By analyzing, explaining and forecasting the

job market in both North America and China, we will lay out a clearer picture for

international students, and those who are seeking career in the cross-border business.

(2) China's Macroeconomic Transformation

China has encountered various challenges in the trend of globalization, raising wealth

distribution issues, environmental problems, social instabilities, and currency inflation.

We are in the middle of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan. The Plan will rebalance Chinese

economy once achieved, but will it succeed? We wish to bring business and academic

leaders into this conference and find out where China will go in the next five years.

(3) Hot Industries in Depth

What are the current popular industries and what are their trends? Entrepreneurs,

business professionals and leading professors will have a say. Topics include up-to-date

insight looks and overall analysis of finance, consulting, real-estate, health care and

media industries to offer our audience a broad scale to fit their interests and needs.

(4) Transformation of Chinese Society

The transformation of Chinese economy has triggered a widespread change in the

landscape of Chinese society. This could be seen in the grassroots movements and social

reform to certain extent. We would like to hold a discussion about this matter and the

development of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), from which attendants could

grab the essence of this fast-growing section of the country.

(5) Stories of Young Entrepreneurs

This is an era full of possibilities, opportunities as well as competitions and collaborations.

Many among us have the vision and courage to seize the chance and achieve their

dreams. In this discussion, stories of young entrepreneurs and youth leaders will be told

and insights will be shared. It could be a childhood dream, an important person, or

lesions they've learned through the way.

(6)

ever. This is

where China fell behind the West and consequently the bottleneck in Chinas

development. Chinese government and companies have been looking forward to attract

technology and business talents globally. Our discussion will be: will China become the

center of innovation in the next five years, and how should we prepare for it.

GCC-UTSG Conference Speaker Package 5

that can provide our delegates the knowledge,

insights and tools to succeed in the future. We

are looking forward to seeing you to empower our

delegates by delivering a wide array of issues and

your personal inspirational stories. We hope that

attendants will leave with insight of the trend of

globalization and the transformation of Chinese

industry. We do not expect one to make decision

of entering one industry immediately after the

event, but the learning and connection gained

from this conference should serve him or her for

the whole life.
