Summary of Experience: Tommy Laurendine has more than 20 years experience in the offshore oil and gas industry. His range of experience covers employment with a major oil and gas company, engineering firms and finally with the Minerals Management Service for the past 8 years. His background is in structural engineering design, construction and assessment. He currently serves in the MMS regional office as Structural Engineering Team Leader where he is responsible for the structural installation, inspection, modifications, repairs and removal of all platforms on the OCS, including the Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific and the Alaska regions. He has authored several technical papers and represents the MMS on industry committees dealing with offshore structure issues.

The aging infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico is of increasing concern in the industry. Therefore, managing the associated risks grows in importance. This presentation will discuss the effects of the biggest risk – hurricanes - on offshore platforms as well as the structural assessment program the MMS is implementing for existing Gulf of Mexico platforms
