To study in Russian – B2 in Russian language (TRFL (ТРКИ) test or certificate signed by a Russian
language teacher at home university
To study in English – B2 in English language (TOEFL/ IELTS/ Cambridge English Certificate / certificate
signed by an English language teacher at home university or any other certificate where English
proficiency level is clearly stated
To study full-time Russian language course – B1 in English or Russian (every level from complete
beginner to C1 available)
Individual study plan – can combine courses taught in English and Russian, from different programmes
within 1 field of studies, from Bachelor and Master programmes

Law School
General Information
• Law School of St. Petersburg State University is the oldest Law School in
Russia.
• Our University was established in 1724 by Peter the Great’s edict and our
Law School is one of the oldest faculties of the University.
• Many famous people graduated from our Law School, among them
politicians, statesmen, judges, scholars, as well as writers, poets, artists,
composers.
Law School Today
• Our Law School has been always famous for providing not only a high
professional, but also a brilliant general education.
• The high reputation of this school has been earned by the work of many
generations of outstanding theorists and practicing lawyers. Its highly
qualified and experienced teaching and research staff contributes to the
popularity and high ranking of our School.
• Among our lecturers are famous Russian scholars and representatives of

Law School Today
And nowadays as well as many years ago the best lawyers of our country are
and have been our alumni:
They fill key positions in the Russian federal government. President of the
Russian Federation Vladimir Putin graduated from our Law School. Our
alumni hold key positions in the Constitutional and the Supreme Courts of the
Russian Federation, in many public institutions and leading companies.

The language of instruction is Russian, only some optional courses are taught in

Master program Transnational Legal Practice
Last year a new master program was established. It’s aim is to prepare highly qualified
lawyers for transnational companies and consulting companies.

Institute of Earth Sciences
General information
POMOR was established in 2001. The program starts every two years.
It is a double degree research-oriented interdisciplinary master program at Saint
Petersburg University and Hamburg University in close cooperation with:
the universities of Bremen, Kiel and Potsdam, Hamburg University of Technology,
GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Alfred Wegener Institute
Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, Arctic and Antarctic Research
Institute, Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemuende, and All-Russian
Scientific and Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean
named after Academician I.S. Gramberg.

Study Program
• 1st and 2nd semesters - at the Institute of Earth Sciences, at the Otto Schmidt
Laboratory for Polar and Marine Research at the Arctic and Antarctic Research
Institute and at other Russian partner institutions.
• After the 2nd semester - field practice participating in current research projects, in
international expeditions to the Arctic or being trained at the partner research
institutions.
• 3rd semester - at one of the partner universities in Germany: in Hamburg, Bremen,
Kiel or Potsdam.
• During the 4th semester students are working on their master thesis.
Master program Polar and Marine Sciences
• German and Russian lecturers hold the courses and supervise the master theses
together. After the master thesis defence the students are awarded a Master of
Science of Hamburg University and St. Petersburg State University.
• POMOR offers a scientifically based and practical oriented education for a career in
science, especially in research institutes, public authorities, engineering and
consulting companies and in private sector.
Master program Polar and Marine Sciences
• The master program was internationally accredited at Hamburg University by ASIIN
e.V. until September 30, 2025.
Being accredited by an international accreditation agency means:
• To receive an international recognition of quality
• To promote "best practices" in education
• To be based on "learning outcomes," rather than "teaching inputs"
• To involve teaching staff in self-assessment and continuous quality improvement
