ANN COMPTONAWARDED
FOUNDATIONSCHOLARSHIP
Ann Compton, a second yearaccounting student, wasawarded a $1000 scholarshipfrom the Educational ResourcesFoundation. Ann, a Wellfordnative, has maintained a 4.0grade point average in her major at Spartanburg Tech. Inaddition, she has worked asassistant editor of the college'sstudent newspaper, and hasserved as secretary of the DeltaBeta Lambda Chapter of PhiBeta Lamda, a business organization. She placed first in accounting at Phi Beta Lambda'sstate leadership conference,and represented the state at thenational conference held inWashington, D.C., this pastsummer. Ann is currently working part-time in the college'saccounting lab, tutoring otherstudents. The scholarship endowment was created by ERFfor Technical Education andEconomic Development, and isawarded annually to a secondyear student in each of SouthCarolina's 16 technical colleges.The awards are given based onoutstanding achievements,which include participation incollege and community activities, and academic achievement.

MARK WINES NAMED1990 ENGINEERING
TECHNOLOGY STUDENTOF THE YEAR
Mark Wines, a Spartanburgnative, has been named 1990Engineering Technology student of the year by the Spartanburg Chapter of the SouthCarolina Society ofProfessionalEngineers. Mark received theaward during the college's commencement exercises held lastAugust. Mark, an electronicsengineering technology graduate, is employed as an engineering technician at HoechstCelanese. While attendingSpartanburgTech, Mark servedas a student tutor and as amember of Tau Alpha Pi, National Honorary Society forEngineering Technology. Hewas also listed in the 1990Who's Who Arnone-Students inAmerican Junior Collee-es.
The award presented to Markis given annually to a graduating engineering technology student who best exemplifies outstanding academic achievement, technical ability, careerpotential and objectives, leadership, and personal character.This year marks the award's15th anniversary.

Phi Beta Lambda is an organization for students inthe Business Division. Itspurpose is to create interestand understanding ofAmerican business enterprise and to assist studentsin developing business andleadership skills. DRAMA CLUB
Caravanserai, advised byJudy Sieg, will put on theplay Dark of the Moon.Theplay will be held in theTracey J. Gaines Auditorium on March 14th-17th.
ASCET CLUB NEWS
The ASCET Club, the Spartanburg Technical CollegeStudent Chapter of the American Society of Certified Engineering Technicians, has enjoyed a busy fall of1990. Theclub, which is a professional organization available forstudents in engineering technology, strives to provide itsmembers on opportunity to learn more about their chosencareer field and to annually sponsor scholarships for deserving students. (Scholarship winners for the fall quarterof 1990 are Kenneth Sarratt, Richard Ruebush, TracyClinch, and Zulfikar Dossaji.)
The club began the year with a membership campaign inSeptember and now has 49 members. ASCET sponsored abooth at Halloween Happening on October 31st to sell hatsand license plates with the Spartanburg Tech logo. Another fund raising project in November was a hamburgercookout held in front of the Ledbetter building. The clubassisted Student Services by serving as hall monitorsduring winter quarter registration. ASCET adopted theHaven, a refuge for displaced families, and collected food,clothing, and household items in December. Apresentationof the collected items was made to the Director of theHaven, Milt Fletcher, on December 19th. 1990-91 Officersfor the ASCET Club are: Steve Lux, Pres.; Todd Genobles,V.Pres.; and Tracy Clinch, Sec. Directors are: Ken Sarratt,Sandi Wall, Robert Giannone, Dennis Thompson, andDavid Green. The faculty advisor is Jim McKinney.

FEATURED NEW EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH
Spartanburg Technical College recently hired new faculty and staff members. The new members to be featuredinclude Art Decker, Dr. Bruce Dillenbeck, Dr. FrankTownsend and Peter Stone.
Art Decker, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, has joined the college as the Admissions ServicesCoordinator. Decker previously served as director ofMansfield Business College in Spartanburg. He and hiswife, Julia, have three children and reside in Spartanburg.
Dr. Bruce Dillenbeck joins the Division of Arts and Sciences as a history instructor. He primarily will teachclasses for the University Transfer Program. A native ofTallahassee, Florida, he earned his bachelor's and master'sdegrees in history from the University of South Florida inTampa. He earned his doctorate in history from FloridaState University in Tallahassee, where he also worked asan adjunct professor and teaching assistant. He now livesin Spartanburg with his new wife, Lynn.
Dr. Frank Townsend joins the college as a math instructor. A graduate of North Carolina State, Townsend previously worked as a math instructor at Aiken Technical College. He and his wife Catherine live in Ninety Six.
Peter Stone joins the staff as a marketing instructor.Herecently moved to Greenville from Coral Springs, Florida,where he worked for CEM- KAM, Inc. He graduated cumlaude from Baptist College of Charleston and is currentlypursuing his master's degree. Stone is a member ofthe AirForce Reserves and he and his wife, Cindy, have an 8- yearold daughter.
SPARTANBURG TECH JOBPLACEMENT OFFICE
One of the main functions of the Job Placement OfficeatSpartanburg Technical College is to provide job placementassistance to our students and graduates, offering qualified candidates to business and industry. The office receives job information from prospective employers andquickly circulates this information to students and graduates. Full and part time employment opportunities areregularly posted at the college, and a special mailingservice notifies registered graduates of these positions.
Included in the Job Placement Office is a Career Centerto assist students in career decision making. Also includedin the Center is a career information library onjob descriptions, which includes labor market information, guides tocareers, interest inventories, and federal/state employment information.
The Job Placement Office also provides guides and workshops on resume preparation and interviewing skills. Thegoal ofthe department is to find the right job for the studentor graduate.The Spartanburg Tech Job Placement Officeis a member
of the Spartanburg Area Personnel Association and theSouth Carolina Co-Op and Placement Association.
