Spark Joy
Close the Opportunity Gap
2017 Storybook Gala Sponsorship Packet
May 17, 2017
Our VisionEngaged communities
where all families are empowered to support their young children’s early learning and future success
Our MissionTandem partners with families, educators, and
communities to surround young children with interactive learning opportunities that build early language and
literacy skills, strengthen social and emotional skills, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
2017 Storybook Gala: Mirrors, Windows, and Doors
Windows provide a way for children to experience lives, situations, and events that they may never be exposed to in everyday life. These books build a child’s imagination, critical thinking skills, and empathy.
Children’s literature plays a powerful role in shaping
childhood experiences and children’s self-image.
Mirrors are important to validate a child’s self-worth by showing characters that look like them, and situations that they experience. These stories help all children know they are important, worthy, and valued.
Doors are the opportunities that open up when a child reaches school ready, in love with books and learning and strong in their self-confidence and empathy for those around them.
ABOUT THE EVENTJoin Tandem for an evening celebrating the joy of stories.
• Held at San Francisco’s historic City Club
• Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails at the reception hour, followed by a three-course meal and silent auction.
• More intimate than the traditional gala, Tandem’s event will bring the magic of books and storytelling to every table.
• A children’s book author or illustrator will be the special guest at each table, offering a unique opportunity for rich conversation about the importance of children’s books and literature.
