Spanish 4 2018SUMMER READING REQUIRED
for Mrs. Maples
It is important for students to keep up their Spanish over the summer if they wish to take AP Spanish in the fall. In order to help them maintain the language skills gained in Spanish 1-3, I am requiring them to read short stories for summer reading as well as related assignments focusing on comprehension and vocabulary. There will be a test on the stories and all assigned vocab when students return to school. Beyond the reading, I encourage students to listen to music in Spanish and use Spanish in any way they can (text/facebook a friend in Spanish/Spanglish, talk to yourself in Spanish, etc. Also, itunes has various free podcasts with beginner and intermediate Spanish lessons.
Students entering AP Spanish at Oxford High School need to have completed the following assignments before the first day of class.
1. Read the stories on the following list and be prepared to take a test on them and the vocab at the end of each story (provided).
2. Write 10 Journal entries (See details on other page)3. Come to school prepared to a) take a comprehension test and/or produce further writing
samples on the readings and b) take a vocabulary test on vocabulary words provided for each story (at the end of each story).
4. Test on other vocab (attached)

ASSIGNMENT – Journal Entries HAND Write 5 Journal entries, one page each (about 1 per week of the summer). In each entry you will write in Spanish about:
1. What you did that day2. What your upcoming plans are in the next few days and any random thoughts
you’d like to share 3. A recent news story in Spanish from that week and your opinion on the matter. **Either include the link at the end of your hand-written summary, email me the links separately, or print out the article.
The goal is to get you thinking and writing in Spanish on a weekly basis about every day things and current events.
Requirements: -each entry is ONE page long in YOUR OWN Spanish words. -include the date at the top-at the bottom, include your news source.

**Cheating: online translators are not to be used. They are considered cheating. If there are sentences written that I know you are not capable of writing, I will assume you either used an online translator or another person to do your work, which can also result in a zero. This work is to be done individually. Your work should NOT look like another student’s. You do NOT need to copy directly from the story
Here are some great SPANISH news websites. These would be good for you to read anyways as you will read articles from these websites this year in AP Spanish. You can also search for other Spanish news sites.
