Spain is in Europe. It is next to Portugal and France. The actual
coin is the Euro, but before it was the PESETA.
Spanish is the language spoken in the country and it is own of
the most spoken in the world. South America, Spain, Cuba or
even USA, speak our language.
The Capital City is Madrid. But Barcelona, Valencia, Seville or
Bilbao, are also important cities

Spain is divided into 18 Regions. Although our language is Spanish, in
our country there are also more official languages. For example; in Galicia
the people speaks Gallego. In the Basque Country, they speak Vasco. And in
Cataluña and Valencian Community we speak valenciano.
Part of our country has beaches, and in the center of the country we
can find big mountains.

It was acquired on 19th December 1981. It’s comprised with three
horizontal strips. Our colours are Red and Yellow. These two colours are
derived from the Ancient Kingdom of Spain.
Spain has a democratic monarchy.
Mr. Juan Carlos of Borbón and Ms. Sofia
of Greece are our King and Queen.
They have three sons, Cristina, Felipe and
Felipe and Leticia are the next King and
Queen of Spain.

The Mosque of Córdoba, is
one of the most beautiful
Mosques in all Europe. It
was considered a wonder of
the medieval world by both
Muslims and Christians. Built
on a Visigothic site, which was
probably the site of an earlier
Roman temple, the Great
Mosque of Cordoba was begun
between 784 and 786 during
the reign of 'Abd al-Rahman I,
The Alhambra is in Granada. It is divided into the Generalife, the
Narazies Palace and the Alcazaba. The Alhambra is located on a strategic
point, with a view over the whole city and the meadow (la Vega), and this
fact leads to believe that other buildings were already on that site before
the Muslims arrived.

The Expiatory of Holy Family, in
Barcelona.
It was open by the Pope in
November at a biggest ceremony.
It was created by Gaudí and is one
of the last big Cathedrals in Europe.
The Aqueduct of Segovia is a Roman building. One of the greatest
surviving monuments of Roman engineering, this aqueduct stretches from
the walls of the old town to the edges of Sierra de Guadarrama. It is about
2950 feet long although the section where the arches are divided in two
levels is about 900 feet. It is made of rough-hewn massive granite blocks,
joined without mortar or clamps.

The Seville Cathedral is a religious building at the south of the
country.
It is the largest Gothic cathedral and the third-largest church in the
world. The cathedral was built to demonstrate Seville's wealth, as it had
become a major trading center in the years after the Reconquista.

Velazquez painted many different
important Pictures. The Meninas or
the Aguador of Seville.
He died at the age of 61 after
having painted many paintings.
Goya was born closed to
Zaragoza. He developed a
spontaneous painting method.
Over a long career Goya
completed a whole range of
paintings, drawings and
engravings.
Picasso was born in 1881 in
Malaga. He is the most
famous of the Modern
Artist of the 20th Century.
The Guernica was painted in
1937. This is a protest
against the bombing of the
Basquet village in the
Spanish Civil War.
Spain has produced a wide variety of World class
artist over the last millennium

Cervantes
Don Quijote is one of the
most important and known
literature story written by
Cervantes.
Quijote and Sancho Panza are
the main characters of this
story,.
Julio iglesias, David Bisbal or Palacido Domingo are
important singers. They are famous out of Spain.
But there are more famous important singers.
Monserrat Caballé, José Carreras, Dover…

The festivals take place in various parts of the Country at different
times of the Year.
The flamenco, which is a traditional dance in where the Spanish
guitar and a dancer, represent the culture of the country. Also we can find
the Zarzuela, which is a kind of opera.
Bulls fighting are important all over the country. Furthermore, the Castells
are famous in Cataluña or Valencia.
Finally, the Semana Santa (Easter) is famous, because the people
bring sculptures of Jesus or Maria around the cities.

Contador in Cycling, Rafa Nada in Tennis, Fernando Alonso
in Formula I, Dani Pedrosa or Jorge Lorenzo in Moto GP are
important in the Sports World.
All of them are famous because they won important titles
like The Tour of France, Wimbeldorm, Roland Garros, Formula
I…..

This 2010 we became the winners of the World Championship. Our football
team became the best of the world and we were so proud of them.

There are different landscapes in our Country. We have
wonderful beaches, amazing mountains or even fantastic rivers.
The north of the country is green and humid. The south of it, is
dry and brown, although has is own charming.

The traditional food in Spain is varied and delicious. The Gazpacho
Andaluz, the Cocido Madrileño, Fabes, the Tapas and the Spanish Omelette,
are some examples of these.
A big part of these dishes are included in the Mediterranean Diet.
Nowadays, they are included at the UNESCO certificate.

The Valencian Community is the East of the country. It is
divided into 3 regions.
Here we speak two languages; the Spanish and also the
valenciano. Our actual president of the Community is Francesc
Camps.
Important sports competitions are done at the community, for
example the Formula I or the American’s cap.

La SENYERA is the flag
of Valencia Community.
It is also named
CROWNED SEÑERA.
It is one of the oldest
flags in all Europe. It was
used by the King of
Aragon, James I of
Aragon.
James I the Conqueror, was de
King of Aragon, count of
Barcelona and Lord of
Montpellier.
His long reign saw the
expansion of Crown of Aragon
on all sides: into Valencia to the
south, Languedoc to the north
and the Balearic Islands to the
east.

The City of the Arts and Sciences is situated in Valencia. Here we
can find the Oceanogràfic and the Hemisferi. The entire complex, designed
to celebrate the arrival of the 21st Century, looks as though it might have
been beamed down to earth from another planet.

The Fallas is probably the most
famous festivity of our community.
Las Fallas literally means "the fires" in
Valencian. The focus of the fiesta is
the creation and destruction of ninots
(“puppets” or “dolls”), which are huge cardboard, wood, paper-machè and
plaster statues. The ninots are extremely lifelike and usually depict bawdy,
satirical scenes and current events. . Each year, one of the ninots is spared
from destruction by popular vote. This ninot is called the ninot indultat (the
pardoned puppet) and is exhibited in the local Museum of the Ninot along
with the other favorites from years past.

The Moors and the Christians are other important festivity, which is
practice by the many cities, towns and villages around the community.
This festival acts out a part of Spanish history demonstrating the
battles between the Arabs and the Christians that took place in the region
centuries ago. One of the best places to see this fiesta is Alcoy, in
Alicante, where the celebrations take place between the 22 and the 24 of
April

Valencian Pilota, is a traditional
handball sport played in the Valencian
Community.
Its origins are not known, but it seems
to be related to the French Jeu de
paume.
He is David Ferrer. He practices
tennis. He was born in our community. He
didn’t win any champion, but we are proud of
him.

Beach, mountains and lakes are an important part of our landscapes. It is
true that the Valencian Community it’s one of the driest parts of the
country, but it’s not important. We have many many landscapes that are
fantastic. We have many important beaches and most of them are
incredible.

Paella, the buñuelos, the horchata and fartons, the churros with chocolate
or the sausages are the tradicional food of the Valencian Community.
If you came you can try many kinds of these dishes. All of them are done
with olive oil and are included in the Mediterranean diet.

Elche is in the south of the Community, in the Alicante’s Region. Near
of Alicante and near of the beach. Our city has a good weather all the year,
sunny and warm. Although Elche a few years ago was a town, nowadays is
the third big city of the Valencian Community.
The people who live in Elche, it is called Ilicitano or Ilicitana, because at
the ancient time (Romans) Elche was called Illice, and was an important city.
The municipality of Elx has 9 km of white beaches, equipped with all of the
facilities necessary for visitors to enjoy nature to the full. With beaches
of fine white sand, exotic dune systems and sandy semi-urban beaches, Elx
has a varied and highly interesting coastline to offer visitors.

If you look carefully the map, you can see that Elche is really close
to the beach, and is also close to Murcia and Alicante.
It is very well communicated because has its own airport, which is call El
Altet.
The motorway A-7, connects you with Madrid, Valencia, Alicante,
Murcia and the South of Spain.

The Iliciant Flag has three
colours, red, blue and yellow. It
can remind someone to the
Señera.
The Palmeral of Elche is a plantation of
palm trees in the Spanish province of
Alicante.
It is the largest palm grove in Spanish, we
call palmeral in Europe and one of the
largest in the world, surpassed in size only
by some in Arab countries.

The principal monuments are Santa Maria which is a Church, The Altamira
Palace, The Calahorra and the Arabic bathrooms. All of them play an
important role in our history.

Miguel Hernandez is a
poet. He was born in
Orihuela, but he lived in
Elche during his live. He
died during the Civil
War.
Dame of Elche is one of
the most important iberic
sculptures. It was
discovered at the Alcudia.
Nowadays it is at the
Nacional Museum in Madrid.

Sixto Marco, is an important painter in
Elche. He has a monument at the Rabal.
His passion for the MISTERI have always
been a cornerstone in SIXTO's life work.
His first individual exhibition of art 16th
april 1956 in Alicante.He exposed 30 oil
paintings and focused around the
MISTERI theme.

The procession of the Resurrection, also known as the Sunday of Glory
procession, takes place on the morning of Resurrection Sunday, the eighth day
after Christ’s entry into Jerusalem.
In Elche, this procession has a unique feature: as the floats pass through
the streets, they do so amid a flurry of “hallelujahs” – small religious
images on coloured paper that the townspeople throw from the balconies
and roof terraces of their houses. Among the faithful it is customary to
collect and keep their favourite images as a sign of their faith.
On the 13th of August is the date of a
celebration in Elche called Nit de l'Albà
(Night of the Dawn) in which a city-wide
night-long show of fireworks takes place

The Mystery Play of Elx or Misteri d’Elx, is a sacral-lyrical medieval
drama, dated from the 15th century, which was declared a Masterpiece of
the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2002. It is
played every year in mid August, in the context of the local holidays
dedicated to the Assumption of Virgin Mary..

Elche’s footwear factories produce almost half of the footwear
manufactured in Spain today. A large proportion of their production is
exported to EU countries and to the USA.
The footwear manufacturing industry and that of its component
parts have undeniably been the city’s economic motor for decades with over
2,100 production and sales centres. Indeed, these centres constitute 12%
of the city’s 12,400 registered businesses.

As well as its rich cultural heritage, Elx also offers a wide range of
local dishes using the area’s great variety of produce
For dessert, we can enjoy locally grown fruit (dates, figs,
pomegranates etc.) as well as the “Tortada de Elche”, a delicious local
sweetmeat, and “Pan de Higo”, a cake of compressed figs with slivers of
almond. Traditional drinks include the distilled flowers of Arabian lavender,
distilled aniseed (the popular “Nugolet”) and date liquor.

La Torre del Gall is the most important monument. It used to be a house.
But when the owner died it became part of La Hoya. Nowadays, it is used as
a cultural centre in where the students can do many formative courses and
the parks around it, are used as place in where they can run and play freely.
La Torre del Gall, is the symbol of the school and you can find it at the
uniform or at the webside.
