This is the capital city, Madrid. It is
located in the centre of Spain.
This street is called the Gran Via, or the ’Great Way’. It is a very lively shopping
area. It is also known as the street that never sleeps!

This is the old city of Toledo, located to the south of Madrid. It sits on a mountaintop and is surrounded on three
sides by the river Tagus.
There are many historical buildings to
visit, such as the Ayuntamiento, or Town Hall (pictured left on top of the hill), and
lots of narrow, winding streets to explore!

This is Park Guell – a public park in the city of Barcelona. It was
designed by the famous architect Antonio Gaudi.
Built in the early 1900s, it is a maze of stone
structures, mosaics and fascinating buildings. At the top is a terrace with
a wonderful view of Barcelona.

This is the amazing La Sagrada Familia
cathedral in Barcelona.
It is another of Antonio Gaudi’s creations. It was
started in 1882, but it is still not completed! When Gaudi died in
1926, it was only 1/4 finished. Building
work is due to end in 2026!

This is a vineyard in a region of Spain called La Rioja. A vineyard is a place where grapes are grown for wine
production.
Spain is famous for its wine – it is the
third largest producer of wine in
the world!

This is the region of Andalucia, situated on
the south coast of Spain. The land is hilly, with several rivers and
areas of farmland.
Andalucia is also famous for its bullfights. This takes place in an open space called a
bullring, where a person, known as a ‘matador’,
entices a bull to charge at him. The bull is normally killed at the end of the match. Many people in
Spain think that this sport should be banned.

The Pyrenees is a 491km long
mountain range that forms a natural border between
Spain and France.
Many parts of the Pyrenees are
popular as a skiing destination in the winter months.

This is Las Palmas. It is situated on Gran
Canaria, one of Spain’s Canary Islands to the far south-west of the
country. With its sandy beaches and cruise ship
port, it is a popular holiday resort.

This is the town of Tossa de Mar, on the Costa Brava, or ‘wild coast’, located in the region of Catalonia. There are
many old and beautiful buildings there, making it popular with tourists.

Flamenco is a style of dance traditional to Spain. It
includes singing, guitar-playing, hand-clapping and finger-snapping. The women in particular wear elaborate dresses, with layers of ruffles
on the skirt and sleeves.

Paella is a Spanish dish particularly associated
with the region of Valencia on the east
coast. There are many different varieties, but
most types include rice, beans, meat or seafood,
and vegetables.
During festivals in Valencia, often
enormous paella dishes are made which
feed thousands of people!
