Materials Research Corporation have announced the production of a new stainless steel environmental test chamber, combining high- vacuum and temperature-test capabilities, and claimed to be priced low enough for every manufacturer of MIL-SPEC components and products.

This new, compact, portable simulation chamber has a minimum of 1.5 ft of internal working area, and offers adjustable vacuum capability approaching 1 x W8 torr (equivalent to an altitude of l,5OO,aoO ft). Vacuum pull-down is unusually fast-minutes for most test programmes. Provision is made for controlled temperature capabiity from -300” to +350”F with ~t2”F accuracy. Interior temperature surfaces are blackened for high emissivity.

The unit, designed Model VT-lo, is a fully self-contained system, complete with stainless steel chamber, vacuum pumping equipment, temperature and vacuum controllers and indicators, an internal removable shelf, vacuum feed-throughs, and a Cinch Pyrex sight port.

One important feature of the VT-10 chamber is its compatibility with commercial vacuum feed&roughs and manipulation devices. MRC has developed over 100 different feed&roughs for conveying electric power, instrument read-out lines, liquids and gases into and out of the chamber. Manipulating devices are also available. Pro- vision is made on the standard chamber for mounting of these feed- throughs, and most of them are available from stock. McLeod gauge with multiple ranges A new McLeod gauge, with an adjustable closed end covering three ranges, is now available from the Europa Engineering Company Limited. The ranges are 0 to 1 mm in 0.01~mm divisions, 0 to 0.1 mm in 0.001~mm divisions and 0 to 0.01 mm in 0.0001-mm divisions. The closed end, created by a high-vacuum “O”-ring seal and pre- cision-ground rod, is easily opened for cleaning, and the meniscus has a micrometer adjustment. Due to this closed end, the multiple range selection is accommodated on one single linear scale, 100 mm long. The overall dimensions of the Europa McLeod gauge are 19 inches high, 3 inches wide and 2 inches deep.

The gauge is a simple instrument to use and is compact in design. The precision ground rod allows easy cleaning and removal of any mercury separations which may occur. The 1OO-mm scale has a white background for easy accurate reading.

Contati~ compact vacuum controllers A new series of compact optical meter-relay type vacuum controllers has been announced by Hastings-Raydist Incorporated. The new controllers are available in a choice of three pressure ranges: 0 to 10-l torr, 0 to 1 torr and 0 to 20 torr. Also the customer has a choice of single or double set points within the same physical dimensions.

The compact controllers require only a standard meter cut-out on the customer’s panel or instrument to install the unit. All circuits are solid state and selfcontained behind the meter. Vacuum measure- ment is via the tried and proven patented Hastings thermopile. Internal relays are rated at 5-amp, 115-V non-inductive load and
