Collecting Unit A Geosynchronous satellite containing photovoltaic arrays. PV arrays convert Solar Energy into Radio frequencies or D.C Electricity. PV arrays units align themselves facing the sun by Solar trackers. Mirrors are used to intensify the incident rays A typical ground unit can produce only 20% of that of space unit.

MicrowaveTransmission
Microwaves are Electromagnetic wavesthat travel at the velocity of light.
Lossless propagation Point to Point

Advantages of laser based energy transfer compared withother wireless methods are:
Collimated monochromatic wavefront propagation allowsnarrow beam cross-section area for energy transmissionover large ranges.
Compact size of solid state lasers-photovoltaics semiconductor diodes fit into small products.
No radio-frequency interference to existing radiocommunication such as Wi-fi and cell phones.control of access; only receivers illuminated by the laserreceive power.

ITS ONLY A MATTER OF PUBLIC PERCEPTION !!
Microwaves are generally used in microwaves for cooking.
Laser transmission or transmission through light energymight be hazardous.
But the intensities of both the mediums areweaker than the sunlight..!

RECEIVING UNITRECTENNA
An antenna comprising a mesh of dipoles and diodes for absorbing microwave energyfrom a transmitter and converting it into electric energy is called a Rectenna
SANDWICH CONCEPT

The distance between the antenna and rectenna will be roughly thedistance from Earth to geosynchronous orbit (22,300 miles)
For best efficiency the satellite antenna must be circular between 1 and1.5 kilometers in diameter
The ground rectenna would need to be elliptical and around 14kilometers by 10 kilometers
Microwaves are received with about 85% efficiency , around 5km across
(3.1 miles)95% of the beam will fall on the rectenna.
