BENEFITS OF NE W SEED

How many bushels are you shooting for? We had one of our fields average 75.4 bushels last year and one of our customers had a field run over 86 bushels with parts of the field showing over 100 bushels! I mention those numbers not to boast, but to tell you if we can do it then you certainly can too. The genetics in our Hefty Brand soybean lineup have 100 bushel potential and beyond, and our agronomy staff has the answers you’re looking for to increase your yields significantly this year. So shoot for your best yields ever this year and count on Hefty Brand Soybeans to perform in your fields.

When soybean prices are high, picking great-yielding varieties is more important than ever if you want to maximize your profit. Here’s the problem, though: Every year is different, and most soybean varieties are 2 years old or less. How can you really find the best products on the market? First, we suggest planting at least 3 or 4 different varieties on the farm and matching those beans to your different soil types, field conditions, tillage practices, and planting dates. Then, work with a company and agronomists you can trust. There are plenty of other good companies and people out there, but I love our agronomy staff, and Darren and I personally spend a tremendous amount of time with them talking about how to raise better soybeans. Our goal is always for you to get the best yields and earn the most possible income.

I’ve been so excited by all the reports of super high yields in full fields from farmers who planted Hefty Brand Soybeans over the last couple of years. Even on our farm, we had 2 different Hefty beans top 70 bushels per acre in full fields in 2010! While many farmers talk about soybean yields that have leveled off, I feel good that many of our customers continue to successfully climb the yield ladder. Hopefully, we can help you achieve your goals, too, with Hefty Brand Soybeans!

Convenience• Highest quality and highest yielding product vs. bin-run• Meets quality standards of seed company• Professionally handled and rigorously tested• Dramatically reduces splits and foreign matter• Ensures varietal purity• Germination tests to ensure peace of mind• Weed-free• Reliable seed supply in many maturities• Access to the most elite germplasm

Economics of New Seed vs. Bin-Run• Income lost by not selling as commodity grain (e.g. 1 bushel of bin-run seed multiplied by the price of a soybean bushel)• Average loss of ~ 10-15% cleanout at harvest for bin-run seed• Handling and transportation costs for bin-run (approx. $.35-$.75/bushel)• Bin-run planting rates are generally 15% higher than new certified seed• New seed yields an average of 1.8 bushel/acre more than bin-run (University yield trials range from 1.2-5.9 bushel/acre)

Limited Warranty Benefits• Dealer agronomic support before and after the sale• Risk management benefits of Roundup Rewards® (over $600 million paid to growers since 1997)

New Innovations• Royalties provide research and development of new traits and higher yielding germplasm• Monsanto invests over $700 million per year on research and development• Monsanto is 100% committed to agriculture• New trait introductions• 7- 9 years for commercialization• $50-$100 million in total costs for a new biotech trait• Seed companies and Monsanto are committed to our customers’ success

H004Y12 Excellent IDC tolerance in both parents leads to great performance in your fields even in higher pH and salt stress. Beat H0086R in 9 of 10 trials last year! Wider plant fills in rows and takes more advantage of sunlight for strong yields.

H007Y12 High yielder for HWY 200 and north. Great stress tolerance for IDC and Phytophthora. Darker plants and pods look great in your fields while promoting more sunlight and heat absorption for better results in your combine.

H008Y11 Yield leader for the 00’s. Handles high pH and salt levels and maintains its height moving into lighter soils and drier climates. Fits well across North Dakota and Minnesota.

H009Y12 Another great northern bean. Prefers medium to heavy soils. Medium plant type that gets bushy toward the bottom to fill in the rows and keep weeds out. A notch below our other varieties on IDC tolerance, but the K gene has been very consistently preventing Phytophthora root rot issues.

H00Y12 A day later than the H009Y12, this variety is a key line for us in the late group 00 and early group 0 maturities. Excellent IDC tolerance, includes the Rps 3A gene for Phytophthora help, and works well across Minnesota and all the way west in North Dakota. Great bean!

H01Y11 Powerful early bean. Good yields and strong defense. Fits best from HWY 200 and north. Looks great even on heavy Red River Valley soils.

H02Y11 A Proven performer in the Red River Valley, this bean destroys competitors’ “M” and “Y” lines! Handles Phytophthora and tight, stressful soils. Best from Crookston to Devils Lake and the HWY 2 corridor.

H04Y11 High yielder with great western stress tolerance. This variety really shines in Southern and Central North Dakota. Excellent branching and good height characteristics help this bean perform well even in moisture-stressed situations.

Group 0 to Early Group 1 Genuity® RR2Y® Maturities

H04Y12 New variety for you with 3 years of big yields in the testing program. Only weakness is the lack of a Phytophthora gene, so use this one on well-drained fields or in a blend.

H06Y11 Fantastic bean even in higher pH environments! You won’t find a better bean at handling IDC hotspots. Great top-end yield potential in your best ground, too.

H06Y12 Top-end yielder that fits nearly everywhere this maturity is planted. Blew away the competition in the IDC trials. Responds to higher management techniques. Good plant width fills rows and fills combines, too.

H07Y12 This one won’t be in stock long. It has plot-topping yields and great defense as well. Above average IDC with the best Phytophthora protection gene, Rps 3A.

H08Y12 Big Yielder! This bean loves to run west. Ideally suited for ND and SD. Responds very well to fertility and seed treatments.

H09Y10 Great fit for high yields, high pH tolerance, and even on the Soybean Cyst Nematode ground! With yield levels that have topped plots from Central SD to Wisconsin, the combination of SCN/IDC protection gets even more attention.

H09Y11 Great-looking bean with yields to match. Plant this one right in front of your house and brag all year long. Best Phytophthora protection in the lineup. 09Y11 fits from central MN and all the way west.

H10Y12 Good yielder with great standability. Very good stress tolerance, as well, with K gene for PRR and some SCN protection. Strongest performance in ND/SD/Western MN. Use GreenBean if planting in high pH areas.

H11Y12 Tough bean to keep in stock! This one has really been a yielder, and it gets even more attention from its defensive traits. Very good in IDC areas and stellar where Phytophthora is concerned. Works well from SD all the way through Wisconsin.

H12Y12 The best SCN protection you can buy and it yields great to boot! Only average in the high IDC spots, but still was one of the top-yielding beans through Central Minnesota. Great fit in MN and SD. Visually attractive bean as well.

H13Y11 Awesome yields! Dominated nearly every trial with excellent IDC tolerance and fantastic yields. If you don’t have soybean cyst nematode, this is the bean you should be planting. Great stress tolerance leads to consistent performance.

H13Y12 Flat out yielder that loves lighter to medium soils. If SCN/IDC are not concerns, this should be one of your favorite beans at this maturity. Great one-two punch with 13Y11 for top yields.

H15Y12 Dominant yielder in SD and Western MN. Has great PRR protection with the Rps 3A gene. Outside of that, this is a racehorse bean for your best ground.

H16Y11 Key line at this maturity. Top yields with SCN resistance. Really shows off the yield punch of the new RR2Y trait. Flat out yielder.

H16Y12 Big yields and great defense give you a bean you can consistently count on. Rock solid bean with SCN, IDC, SWM, and BSR protection. Loves your best ground, but works almost anywhere.

H17Y12 Loves well-drained soils, cornstalk residue, and filling its 4-bean pods with plenty of sun. Improved IDC tolerance over H205RN, and great northern movement. Fits from SD through South and Central MN into Wisconsin.

H18Y11 Rag 1 gene for soybean aphid resistance. Strong yields with very good IDC score, as well. If this variety doesn’t handle your tough pH spots, then soybeans shouldn’t be planted there. Performs well across SD, Southern MN, and Northern IA.

H18Y12 Supposed to be just a great “western” bean, but yields very well across Southern MN and Northern IA too! Brown Stem Rot resistant, but otherwise predominantly a racehorse bean for well-drained soils.

DESCRIPTIONS

H19Y11 Another great RR2Y bean. Strong performer at a 1.9 to 2.0 maturity. Fits very well from SD to Wisconsin. Strong agronomic package, including Brown Stem Rot resistance and a C gene for phytophthora.

H20Y11 Big time yielder for your highest fertility ground. Place 20Y11 where it can express it’s top-end yield, and you’ll be sad you didn’t plant more.

H20Y12 What do you get when you breed two of our best varieties together? H20Y12 which has the best characteristics of both and has been nothing short of a yield gem. Fantastic yields in Wisconsin and all the way through Northern IA/Southern MN and and West into Central SD.

H21Y11 Shares some common background with H205RN’s, but 21Y11’s outyielded them by more than 5 bushels! Great defensive package, as well.

H21Y12 Great bean for Eastern SD, NW Iowa, and SW Minnesota. Upright, medium bush with tons of pods and great standability. Push the fertility and use top management techniques to get the most out of this one. Guys who planted this bean last year are planting it to more acres in 2012.

H22Y11 Strong agronomic package and consistent performance. 22Y11 is big and tall with good lateral width to support top yields.

H22Y12 Should have called this one I-35 because that’s the best fit for this bean. Loves the heavy, fertile ground along the MN/IA border. Excellent performance throughout this geography!

H23Y10 The best-yielding soybean in the industry for the last two years! If nematodes aren’t a problem, there isn’t another Group 2 bean out there that has more yield potential than this one.

H23Y11 Great-looking bean with excellent branching. Very strong yield data, as well. Prefers highly productive and well-drained ground.

Hefty Brand Soybeans have the inside track on new traits and seed technologies through relationships with the top trait development companies in the industry. Why Plant Hefty Brand Soybeans?. YIELD: We know that yield pays the bills on your farm, and we’re confident we have the best genetics on the market from early Group 00’s to late Group 5’s. Hefty Brand Soybean yield data will be available in local, independent, and university yield trials.

. PERFORMANCE: Hefty Brand has plot winning yields, but equally important is our performance on your tough ground. Whatever challenges your farm faces like high soil pH, soybean cyst nematodes, phytophthora root rot, other diseases, and more; if soybeans will grow in your area, Hefty Brand will perform.

. COMPLETE: Our people are the biggest advantage for you. When you buy Hefty Brand Soybeans, our agronomists can help you develop your complete soybean management program to unlock the yield potential of your soils, as well as your seed.

. VALUE: With all the benefits listed above, we’re confident you’ll see a great return on your investment with Hefty Brand Soybeans. Ask us about our early order programs for the best deal of the year.

Where do Hefty Brand Soybeans come from?. We buy genetics from the top breeders. It’s no secret that there are only a few companies left in the industry breeding soybeans on a large scale. Most of them are owned or controlled by the major ag chemical manufacturers. As one of the nation’s ten largest ag chemical retailers, we have access to the best soybean lines from their elite germplasm.

Why is there a price difference from other brands?- Hefty Brand Soybeans are often less expensive than other brands due to the intense cost management of a family-owned company. All seed companies have expenses to get seed produced, processed, and into your hands. Hefty’s contracts production through local growers, has three seed cleaning facilities, and minimizes trucking expense by doing it all in the areas where the seed will be used. The result is a lower cost to you.

H0212L The earliest LL variety in the business! Wider plant type and SCN resistance are the secret weapons for this variety. Looks great in the field and won’t disappoint at harvest time.

H0410L With good IDC tolerance, a K gene for Phytophthora, and a strong white mold score, you can expect consistent success.

H0612L The great defensive package LL beans are becoming known for along with top-end yields. Many comments from growers about how well this one handles the tough parts of the fields.

H0811L This bean belongs on every farm planting late Group 0 soybeans. Great Yielder! Also has a strong defensive package for consistent performance. Handles high pH well. Works best in higher fertility ground, but can adust to lighter soils with heighth and width.

H0910L Great 1-2 punch with 0811’s. Bushier-type bean that really expresses its yield in the branches. Consistent winner!

H1011L A little thinner plant type than most LL beans, but still a very strong performer. The best LL bean on high salt and high pH soils, plus it has SCN resistance.

H1411L Great bean for HWY 212 corridor and beyond. Handles high pH and cyst nematodes very well. Strong yielder!

H1712L Bushier-type plant with big time yield potential. Great defensive package as well!

H2010L Strong yielder at a key maturity. Stacks up well against tough Roundup Ready and LibertyLink competitors. Bushy-type bean.

Outstanding genetics mean higher yields. There’s no secret about that, and we can guarantee you Hefty Brand Soybeans include the great genetics you’re looking for, but if many seed companies have similar genetics, why should you buy Hefty Beans vs. anyone else’s? Seedquality is our answer. Here’s how we can say that.

Because we strive to give you the very best seed quality available on the market, we have the most restrictive seed grower contract that we know of in the industry. We require our seed growers to take better care of our production seed, so we believe you end up with a more nutrient-dense and vigorous seed. Here are just a few of those steps.

Fertility – Our seed growers soil test and fertilize soybeans for higher yields and quality. Did you know that 60 bushel soybeans remove approximately 134 pounds of K2O (potassium) and 68 pounds of phosphate from the soil? By fertilizing with lots of P, K, and micronutrients, the seed we produce typically has more test weight, greater size, and better vigor.

Seed Treatment – Our growers use fungicide, insecticide, inoculant, and QuickRoots on almost all our seed, so it has more nutrients and less disease throughout the year.

Soil Applied Residual Herbicide – Yes, we know our growers can control weeds with Roundup or Ignite, but we believe in having season-long, weed-free fields. It usually means better yields and more seed for us, and bigger, more productive seed for you.

Aggressively Fight Insects – We require insecticide applications at very low threshold levels when bean leaf beetles and soybean aphids are present. These insects carry disease, and if they are left to feed on the soybeans, you may end up with seed that has disease in the bag. We want to do everything we can to prevent that.

Plant Health – Fungicide use at the R2 to R3 stage (full flower to first pod) is beneficial for stopping diseases and improving yields. Because our growers are REQUIRED to spray, you’ll find our seed fields less likely to contain white mold, cercospora, frog eye leaf spot, septoria brown spot, and more. Fungicide use makes seed quality better.
