Graduation Guidelines 2021

Graduation Date & Time

Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 6:30 p.m.

Miami Dade County Fair & Exposition, Venue#1

10901 Coral Way

Graduates arrive and report to Graduate Holding Tent starting at 5:00pm. All seniors must arrive by 5:30pm.

Doors open for guests to enter Graduation Tent Venue#1 at 5:30pm.

*Every guest MUST have a ticket. Children count as a ticket. Tickets will be scanned. NO EXCEPTIONS.

6:20 PM: Doors close for all guests

6:30 PM: SHARP! Graduation ceremony begins.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES.

OFFICIAL SW CLASS OF 2021 FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES!MASK WAS INCLUDED IN YOUR SENIOR BAG.

YOU MAY NOT WEAR ANOTHER MASK.

NO altering of graduation cap will be allowed. No special medals, pins, stoles, etc are allowed. ONLY regalia included in senior bag is allowed.

NO SNEAKERS, CROCS, FLIP FLOPS, SLIDES, SHORTS, TSHIRTS, SCHOOL UNIFORMS ALLOWED.

Arriving at GraduationArrive wearing your SW Class of 2021 face mask, cap, tassel, purple graduation stole, medallion honor cords and hoods (if applicable). Do not put on your gown until you have passed through security checkpoint.

Once you have entered senior holding tent you will not be allowed to leave.

Teachers will be there to help you with any issues or concerns.

GRADUATES MAY NOT WALK WITH THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

◦ Chewing Gum◦ Purses (regardless of size)◦ CELL PHONES◦ Cameras/Video ◦ Headphones/IPODS/SMART WATCHES◦ ELECTRONIC DEVICES OF ANY KIND

ANY GRADUATE FOUND WITH THESE DEVICES WILL BE REMOVED FROM CEREMONY.

The ONLY items permitted are:

◦ Official Southwest cords (Honorary societies, magnets programs, etc.)◦ Official Southwest Medallion and Stole◦ Official Southwest Hoods (If YOU ARE SUMMA, MAGNA, CUM LAUDE)◦ Official SW Mask◦ Marching CardNO OTHER PINS, MEDALLIONS, CORDS, STATE CHAMPION REGALIA WILL BE PERMITTED!

After you pass security check point and you enter Senior Holding Tent

▪ Report to your counselor and pick up name card for roll call

▪ Line up by group number on your marching card (teachers will be there to assist)

▪ 10 groups of seniors will line up

▪ DO NOT CHANGE GROUPS, WE WILL CHECK ORDER AS YOU EXIT SENIOR HOLDING TENT.

Conduct at GraduationGraduation will begin at exactly 6:30pm. Doors close to graduation tent at 6:20pm.

Students will walk in the procession QUIETLY, ATTENTIVELY, and RESPECTFULLY.

Teachers will direct you to your seats. Remain standing until you are asked to be seated. IMPORTANT. . . Look to the teacher escorts (wearing black gowns) for guidance.

Listen attentively to all of the speakers. No shout-outs. Behave appropriately.

If, during the ceremony, you feel ill, tell the teacher in your row who will assist you.

NO DANCING, JUMPING OR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR AS YOU CROSS THE STAGE.

Conduct at GraduationGraduates and Guests MUST adhere to the following: Please tell your guests!

All graduates and their guests must conduct themselves in a dignified manner.

All graduates and their guests must wear face masks at all times.

No items that distract from the ceremony will be permitted (such as banners, noise makers, etc. )

Graduates and guests not in compliance will be removed from the premises, and the graduate’s transcripts and diploma will be withheld.

Parents and/or guests will be escorted out of tent venue, please agree on a place to meeting after ceremony has finished.

Graduation CeremonyOrder of Graduation Program:

• Processional March (walk to seats and remain standing)

• You must remain 6 feet socially distant from other graduates and escorts at all times.

• Pledge of Allegiance (males QUIETLY remove caps)

• National Anthem (males put caps back on AFTER the National Anthem)

• Speakers, guest presentation and speeches

• Roll Call- You will walk up a ramp, across stage, picture with Principal, down ramp, back to your seat

• Confirmation of Diplomas (turning of the tassel- right to left)

• Closing Remarks

• Alma Mater

• Recessional- All graduates will exit graduation tent first. Then all guests will proceed to exit. Make arrangements and agree to meet your parent/guest at a specific location after ceremony.

Graduation Ceremony PicturesWhen do I have my picture taken?

◦ Your picture will be taken by Grad Images on stage with Dr. Rios, Principal.

◦ Mask MUST remain on during picture.

◦ Once on stage, you will be directed as to where to stand maintaining 6 feet social distance guideline.

Grad Images will contact you once pictures are ready through their online website.

Southwest will post Grad Images information on Senior Team named Graduating Seniors 7741 and on Senior Band App

Graduation CeremonyConclusion of Ceremony

Senior Officers will lead the turning of the tassel. RIGHT to LEFT. (wait for the count of 3)

You will be pronounced GRADUATES by the principal.

DO NOT THROW OR REMOVE YOUR CAPS. Anyone throwing graduation cap will be pulled from ceremony.

Closing Remarks

Join in the singing of the Alma Mater.

Exit the venue begin with officers, then front row to back row. DO NOT exit until directed by a teacher escort.

Exit in a dignified manner. You will exit outside of the graduation tent. Make arrangements on where to meet your parent/guest.

DIPLOMA PICK UP

When do I pick up my diploma?

Diplomas will NOT be given out at graduation ceremony.

Pick up dates and times are as follows:

June 2, 2021 from 8am-10am ALL GRADUATES Letters A-K

June 3, 2021 from 8am-10am ALL GRADUATES Letters L-Z

In order to receive your diploma, YOU MUST bring white graduation gown to turn in.

Graduation Tickets

ONLY 2 TICKETS PER GRADUATE GIVEN◦ In order to hold a physical graduation, limited guests was mandatory.

◦ Only 2 tickets were included in senior bag per graduate.

◦ Children count as 1 ticket. Even if child sits on lap or is in stroller.

◦ Tickets will be scanned and monitored at entry to graduation.

◦ There are NO extra tickets to be given out.

◦ Each senior/graduate had 2 tickets assigned to his/her name and it is on file.

If anyone is found selling tickets, you will be removed from participating at graduation ceremony. You will meet with Principal and your diploma may be withheld.
