SISC holds traditional Parade of

Nations on October 15The annual Parade of Nations in Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) returns for the

24th year on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Starting at 8:00 a.m., Grades 3-12 students and faculty

members with band music and flags held high will march in the colorful parade in the Monarchs Gym.

The theme this year is “Global Dignity: Towards a United, Peaceful and Prosperous Community.”

Grades 3 - 12 students, representing a variety of countries and ethnicities from all over the world, will

dress in traditional garments and costumes.

Experience the brotherhood of nations, and celebrate the ideal of world peace with us in a pageantry

of colorful costumes, songs, and dances. Each class will be representing a particular country during

the parades as listed below:

A parent-teacher conference is a prime

opportunity to understand what your child is

learning, how your child is coping, and how you

can be an active participant on an appropriate

level. Getting the most out of a parent-teacher

conference requires a bit of preparation. Here

are some tips:

1. Write down concerns and questions.

Each day your child comes home, ask him

about his day. As you learn more about

what your child's day entails, you may have

some questions or concerns your kid can't

clarify. Make notes about what you want to

know more about and keep a running list to

prepare for the conference. A teacher can't

help if they don't realize there is a concern.

2. Show up early. It is likely your child's

Parenting Corner

Keys to an

effective PTC

teacher will be meeting with 20 or more

parents. Make sure you show up early. If

other parents don't make their appointment,

you may get some extra face time with the

teacher and help keep the time slots moving

right along.

3. Really listen to the evaluation. You need

to come prepared to hear the good and the

bad. Parents who want to go on the

defensive are not going to help anyone; do

your best to listen quietly, don't interrupt,

and work with the teacher to help improve

your child's situation. (http://parentingsquad.com/how-to-
