Let’s Go Lady Warriors What an amazing time to be a warrior. It was evident in our Fall season that great things are to come. We are proud of our teams as they finished the regular and post season with great growth on and off the court and field. VARSITY VOLLEYBALL: The success and excitement from the first ever MS team carried over into this season, allowing us to have enough interest in starting a Varsity Volleyball team. The roster was made up of 10 girls and only 3 of them in HS. The girls were outfitted with brand new Nike Uniforms. Our girls started slow, but wow did they pick up steam at the end of the season, finishing at 5-11. The most exciting game of the season was pulling out a crucial win vs Emerson Waldorf at home 3-2. We sent off 2 Seniors on Senior Night and put our will on TMSA in a 3-0 victory. Varsity’s strong play to end their first ever season earned them a bid into the CAASC D2 state tourney. Coach Jaime Jewett commented “that consistency is the key to developing a good team. Our girls are tenacious and coaches have even referred to our girls as being scrappy.”
MS VOLLEYBALL: With the success of MS Volleyball last year, we were not only able to continue our program, the excitement allowed us to also bring Varsity Volleyball to SCS. The season started slow, but through hard work and determination, the girls were able to finish 4-9. 12 girls made the team this year and we are pleased with the interest in girls volleyball The most complete game the girls played this season was beating Wayne Prep 25-7, and 25-23 in two sets. Coach Tasa McGowan said “I think the most im-portant aspect of our team was the girls' willingness to learn. They really listened in practice and worked hard to learn the skills and rotation. The team grew throughout the season learning basic volleyball skills and how to play as a team.”
VARSITY BASKETBALL: The Varsity Girls basketball team, was coached by first year Head Coach Mike Collins and assistant coach Becky Ham. The team of eight had five freshmen, one sophomore and two 8th graders. Our JV team, classified as a Varsity team, competed against a varsity schedule and improved game to game. An impressive showing of heart and determination was on display against Emerson Waldorf at home. The girls took the conference tournament runner-ups to the wire as they were tied with under 3 minutes to play. Our girls eventually would run out of energy only losing by 8. We are extremely proud of the effort the girls showed all season long. Even though our Lady Warriors faced giants all season, the word quit was never in their vocabulary. "This team, made up of young determined ladies, left it all on the court" as described by Coach Collins. MS BASKETBALL: Middle School Girls Basketball was coached by Jennifer Thompson and assisted by Angie Regis-ter. The team of nine, had players at every grade level and is set up to be a strong program. The girls, mainly inexperienced players, grew together throughout the season and developed through fundamentals. The best all around performance was against Faith Christian’s JV team. Our girls played hard and held the lead at half time before running out of gas in a 20-8 defeat. Our girls could have given up in that game, but instead showed great strength, one that can only come from God. No matter what challenges our girls faced this sea-son they gave it their all and had smiles
along the way.
SWIMMING: Varsity boys and gir ls Swimming was coached by Jennifer Winstead and assistant coach Dillon Frazier. The boys swam well, managing to put points up at every event even
though they were outnumbered. The girls team was extremely strong this year winning three out of four meets. The team was led by Senior Julianna Eckard. She recorded the most points of the season and was voted CCAC female swimmer of the year. Our team had a strong showing placing third in the state against extremely tough competition at the State meet. Coach Winstead described her team as “a tight knit group of great athletes who encouraged each other to do their best, which resulted in an amazing season!”

Kicking Up the Heat…
VARSITY SOCCER: Varsity Soccer held their own in a very tough and competitive CCAC conference, finishing the season with a respecta-ble 9-11 record. In one of the most exciting games of the year, our Varsity team sent off 5 seniors in an emotional Senior night game that pushed our Rivals to the brink of defeat in a 1-0 loss. Although our Warriors did not come away with the win, their strong play earned a bid into the CAASC D1 state tournament. Our boys faired well in the State tournament making it to the semi-finals before being eliminated by New Garden Friends school. MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER: MS soccer team completed the season with a winning record, going 5-3 in conference and 6-4 overall. Our Boys could have given up after starting the season 1-3, however, they did the complete opposite. They came together as a team and won the rest of their regular season games going on a 5 game winning streak. The Warriors ended the season with a thrilling defeat of our Rivals, Thales Apex, in a Penalty shootout 2-1, after losing to them via mercy rule 10-1 in the first meeting. Coach Eric O’Neil stated “I cannot say enough about every boys' effort at practice and on the field. I could see the 6th graders and the first year players understand they were no longer new to SCS soccer, they belonged on this team. They are all a pleasure to coach.” VARSITY BAKETBALL: The Varsity Boys basketball team, was coached by Danny Krauss and his two assistants, Chad Jewett and Matthew Partin. This year Coach Krauss graduated 3 seniors, Gabe Jewett, Josh McLean, and Austin Dixon. The younger Warriors learned valuable lessons from the Seniors and by also being in a conference mixed with 1A-3A schools. The tough competition this year prepared our boys for our new conference to come, the Mid Carolina Conference in the NCISAA. Although the team was hit by the injury bug, they did not use it as a scapegoat to give up. The most complete game this season was played at Thales Apex, where the boys gave everything they had and showed tremendous heart in a 74-52 win. Gabe Jewett was voted Player of the year by opposing coaches in the Capital City Athletic Conference. MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Middle School Boys basket-ball was coached by Mikel Simpson and assisted by Alan Pope. The team had a strong core of 8th graders mixed in with a developing group of 6th and 7th graders. The good mix of players created a strong founda-tion for the program to be successful for many years. The boys learned fundamentals and improved game to game by playing a tough schedule against 1a-3a schools. The Boys started the season strong winning a close game against Southern Wake Academy 36-29. The Boys also had a strong showing, taking a talented Mt. Zion team to overtime at home, ending in a thrilling 45-43 victory.

Southside Enlightenment SERVICE PROJECTS...this year , students from the SCS Elementary campus participated in several differ-ent service projects, from helping in retirement and as-sisted living homes to visiting the Clayton Police De-partment. These projects allowed students to not only reach out to their community with helpful service, but they also allowed students to gain a greater understand-ing of the needs of those around them. Above all, stu-dents were shown how they can use their skills to aid those in a way which glorifies God. The Middle School students also served others in their Service Projects. The 6th and 7th grade Middle School boys helped Dr. Patton with several projects around the Amelia campus; painting, cleaning the out-side grounds, pressure washing the building, and clean-ing the school van. The Middle School girls assisted the Elementary faculty in their classrooms. Both groups of students enjoyed their day of serving. The eighth through tenth grade classes traveled to the Raleigh Food Bank to help pack and sort food for the hurricane relief project. Students worked hard sorting and packaging food for area food distribution centers.
SPIRITUAL RETREAT...High School students enjoyed a retreat at Teen Valley Ranch in Plumtree, North Carolina this year. During their trip, students enjoyed a few days of Christ-centered fun at the camp with a spiritual focus on “Being Real.” Students enjoyed many different activities such as Archery, hiking, horse-back rid-ing, climbing and rappelling , Putt-Putt golf and various games played in the gym. This was a great time to build friendships and also make new
ones. This was the first year at Teen Valley Ranch and the stu-dents enjoyed their time in the great outdoors while experiencing God’s greatness in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
