With little more than the stroke of a pen,
the Supreme Court of the US has denied
Certiorari in the Candice Hardwick
Case. The letter dated October 7, 2013
arrived Monday in the SLRC office.
Thus ends 10 years of the struggle to
vindicate the right of South Carolina
Government School students to peacea-
bly wear Confederate emblems. The 4th
Circuit Decision, which the Supreme
Court has let stand, affirms the school’s
prerogative to trample student rights.
This decision affects students in NC,
Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia.
Anti-student free speech decisions in-
volving Confederate symbols in the 5th,
6th, 8th, 10 & 11th Circuits of the Unit-
ed States Courts of Appeal are left
standing by the Supreme Court Hard-
wick denial.

families with children in government
Victory in Bee County, Texas
On September 23, the Bee County,
Texas Commissioner’s voted to ban the
Confederate Flag from the Bee County
Expo Center – which included the
Western Week Festival in Beeville,
Texas. Bee County is named for the
Father of 2 Confederate Generals: BG
Barnard E. Bee, Jr who gave Jackson his
nickname & BG Hamilton P. Bee who
defended the Texas coast. Texas Military
Images, Inc had applied for and received
a vendor’s booth and then requested per-
mission to display the Confederate Battle
flag. The Western Week Committee re-
plied that they would respond to TMI
with a decision. Now let us be clear-
Western Week had no part in this deci-
sion, the decision was adopted unilater-
ally by the County Commissioners.

schools: HOMESCHOOL!
“The school and the courts will not re-
spect your children’s inalienable right to
proclaim and be proud of their Southern
Heritage, and in all areas of traditional
culture it will only get worse!” said
Chief Trial Counsel Kirk D. Lyons,
Candice Hardwick’s attorney for the last
10 years. “Get your kids out of the Gov-
ernment school’s, and encourage others
to do so. Whatever your inadequacies as
a teacher, in most cases you will do a
better job at teaching your kids, and they
can wear Dixie Outfitter shirts and have
Robert E. Lee’s Birthday off as a school
holiday.” Lyons added.
The SLRC will be developing on-line
resources for families who choose to
homeschool their children.
“Homeschool magic happens when
families come together in communities
and pool their resources,” said Maggie
Willis, the SLRC’s new homeschool
coordinator.
“It says something for the state of this
country when Candice Hardwick peace-
ably displays a Confederate flag over 4
years in situations that do not cause a
single act of disruption (facts conceded
by the school) and the rule of law fails
to protect or even respect her rights,”
said SLRC Board Chairman Neill H.
Payne.”
“For Confederate kids the rule of law
doesn’t exist. The right of free speech
for government school children has been
placed into the hands of non-elected
bureaucrats. We have all lost a measure
of freedom with this decision. Confeder-
ate kids have NO rights that the school
or courts are bound to respect,” said
Black Confederate activist H. K. Edger-
ton.
The SLRC will continue to support and
litigate on behalf of Confederate kids
trapped in government schools, for as
Chief Trial Counsel Lyons opined; “Not
every family can opt out and besides,
when Confederate students positively
display their heritage in an honorable
manner in a hostile environment, I be-
lieve we are duty-bound to try and help
them.”

Victory in Bee County, Texas (continued)
For 16 years the Southern Legal Resource Center
has been fighting for Southern Heritage AND Ameri-
can Liberty. We have fought against the lies construct-
ed by self serving politicians, the mainstream media,
big business Hollywood and a corrupt and politically
correct legal System. These institutions have paved the
way for our children like Tim Castorina, Candice
Hardwick and Jaquelin Duty to be treated like felons
in schools for daring to honorably display the flag of their ancestors, for em-
ployers to justify firing good honest people for displaying the Confederate flag
in the workplace and the punishment or Ostracism of those who take pride in
it. We have fought against the workings of the so-called artistic establishment
that seeks to trash every aspect of Southern Culture like in Bee County TX and
Haywood County NC. The Southern Legal Resource Center is a clearing house
for information in this area of law and by working with other Southern Herit-
age, cultural organizations and sympathetic lawyers across the country we pre-
sent a united front against the runaway train of political correctness. There is
not a Confederate related case in the last 16 years that we have not been in-
volved in, consulted about or handled because no other attorney would take the
case. We have been screamed at by judges, sanctioned for $12,000 by a federal
judge for insisting that Confederate people have rights that the court should
respect and of course we have been stigmatized and pilloried by the clueless
media and their handlers in so-called watchdog groups. We are willing to con-
tinue to fight on for another 16 years or 30 if necessary to secure the rights and
liberty of the Confederate community. We are willing to continue to be availa-
ble 24/7 to you or your camp when a heritage crisis crops up in your back yard,
we are willing and happy to continue to work for the small salaries the SLRC
can afford to pay us and we and our families are willing to continue to make
the 1000 sacrifice's necessary to keep a legal arm for our side up and running,
we are willing to do all this, to continue to do all this as long as we know that
YOU want us to continue fighting on your behalf. Times are hard for all of us -
but opportunity to promote our Confederate banners and liberty crop up almost
daily. Give us the tools, give us the ammunition, your charitable donations, to
continue the fight.
Before they lost their moral compass, the NAACP legal defense team
fought for 60 years before it won a case. The black community loyally support-
ed them in 60 years of unsuccessful legal fighting before they won Brown v
Topeka in 1954. Does our community have less resolve than they? Is the cause
of Southern rights & American liberty less worth fighting for in the courts now
than then? Do we throw in the towel because there is a hostile world out there
to our cause (which is actually the cause of all Americans)? This needs to be a
time of sacrificial doing AND sacrificial giving. However, we can't fight on
alone. We are small and poor standing against foes that are big and rich. Work-
ing tirelessly, often sacrificing our own money and time with our families be-
cause we understand the stake we have in Southern Heritage and Culture. We
ask that you too would realize the stake you have in this fight and give gener-
ously to the preservation of Southern heritage and Liberty! Help supply ammu-
nition for the fight by donating to the Southern Legal Resource Center TO-
DAY!

Tirelessly Fighting the Good Fight, the Only Fight, Since 1995

was – NO SURRENDER. No Confederate flags
on County property – PERIOD!!! So, chief Trial
Counsel Lyons prepared the following letter
(below) for the County Attorney, Michael Knight,
and started drafting a complaint & temporary
restraining order and making sure a federal judge
in Corpus Christi would be available for a hear-
ing. The letter to the County Attorney was
emailed.
A sympathetic reporter called later the same day
to tell us that the County Commissioner’s re-
scinded the ban – saying “oh y’all misunderstood
us – we didn’t mean ban the Confederate flag
from the Expo – just from the county flagpole.
The Confederate flag is welcome at Western
Week!
So a bloodless victory – the good guys don’t al-
ways lose and the bad guts don’t always win.
We’re sorry the Commissioner’s cratered so fast
as the best lesson for these small town bullies
would be to make them pay the SLRC’s attor-
ney’s fees (Lyons, and his legal team, spent about
18 hours on research, drafting & negotiation), but
that would ultimately be paid by the long suffer-
ing Bee County taxpayer. So we rejoice and move
on to the next case. Your support of SLRC makes
this important work possible. DONATE today!

We are happy to announce our Novem-
ber “Volunteer of the Month” is Karol
Lyons.
Karol is our very own Attorney Lyons'
little sister! Karol has a very special
place in the hearts of all of us here at the
SLRC. Karol was diagnosed as mentally
disabled in her toddler years. She lived
in Texas with her parents her whole life
until a few years ago when she and her
father moved to NC so that they could
be closer to Kirk. Karol has an efferves-
cent personality! Her laugh is infectious
here at the office. She is so enthusiastic
and loves to help out by counting out
Thumbs Up for Dixie stickers for orders!
Because of her Savant syndrome that
accompanies her disabilities she NEVER
counts wrong! She is the world's best
and most enthusiastic sticker counter. So
if you have ever purchased or received
Thumbs Up stickers from the SLRC they
were lovingly counted out and prepared
to be sent by Karol. Three times a week
Karol volunteers her time to come into
the office and help out. If you ever hap-
pen to be passing through and stop into
the office to pay us a visit you will know
Karol is working if you hear lively mu-
sic as you enter the building. She is also
very big on enjoying a snack break time
with the staff. Karol has even been
known to help out some of our other
younger volunteers with their home-
work! Thanks for all you do Karol- we
sure love you!
September and October were hot months this
year for students in Ohio that dared to display
the Confederate flag. With the exception of
one all of the calls that have come in regard-
ing school heritage violations have come
from Ohio! Many brave young men and
women with proud parents standing behind
feel their freedoms are being denied where
Southern Heritage is concerned, and they are
absolutely right. One father asked why the
rainbow flag could be displayed but the Con-
federate flag could not. The Principal replied
that the Confederate flag was different, that it
caused disruption as a symbol racism and
hate. When he asked if his son was being
called a racist, the Principal replied no, not at
all. School officials don't get it! We will,
however, continue to do what we can to help
them get it. It's freedom for all or freedom for
none. That’s what they need to get.
We would also like to thank all the Ohio
camps and individuals that donate money to
the SLRC. By giving you are helping the
Liberty loving people of Ohio. Keep on
fighting!
A recent post by a prodigious anti-Confederate
blogger commenting on the SLRC’s press re-
lease related to the Candice Hardwick case was
entitled “Another Confederate Failure”. Sadly
this individual shares a short-sightedness that is
prevalent throughout America and the South.
This was not a Confederate Failure, but rather a
Failure of Law. Because it is a symbol he hap-
pens to hate, he is happy to dance on the Hard-
wick case’s grave and the grave of student free
speech.
The ramifications of the denial by the SCOTUS
and the 4th circuit Court of Appeals to take up
the case of Candice Hardwick works in com-
plete opposition to the landmark 1969 prece-
dent setting Tinker v. Des Moines School dis-
trict. This case set the standard for Student Free
Speech during the heated environment which
initiated constructive debate of the Vietnam
War and the Civil Rights Movement. Immedi-
ate Government mandates are the things which
initiate wars of invasion and riots, not individu-
al diplomacy.
The Tinker precedent has even been cited by
the SPLC in much the same way as the SLRC
did its presentation in the Hardwick case be-
cause it undeniably declares with extreme clari-
ty the high standard that must be met in order
for the government to suppress any speech and
then applies it directly to government schools.
By ignoring Tinker (while paying mere lip-
service to it), the courts have made virtually any
form of expression “ban-able” including the US
flag and black arm bands emblazoned with
peace symbols, which was the controversy of
the day in 1969.
Those things banned after the Confederate Flag
at Latta High School in Dillion SC include t-
shirts declaring “I AM BLACK”, images of
“controversial” figures such as Malcolm X and
Bob Marley, as well as displays declaring pride
in differing sexual orientation.
All of this expression has been squelched by the
whim of non-elected school principles and the
Federal Court System has placed its stamp of
approval upon it.
With the exception of the Southern Legal Re-
source Center, no other organization has stood
up for the rights of those students disenfran-
chised by this denial of justice. In such a
“progressive” era how does it make sense to
deny a right to all in order to guarantee that the
right of a few not be honored.

Over the course of the last almost two years
that I have been with the SLRC I have come
to feel a close bond with many of our mem-
bers and donors. I handle the incoming mail
as well as process memberships and dona-
tions here in the office. I can't begin to tell
you how much the notes of encouragement
and thanks brighten our day here in the of-
fice. I have a cork board where I pin the notes
we receive. They serve to refuel our tanks
when things get tough or we are having a
particularly stressful day. However, in my
time here I have received a few letters and
phone calls from the families of faithful sup-
porters letting us know that they have passed
away. Then reality sets in that I will never
again receive a note of encouragement and
thanks in the familiar scrawl that has become
so regular and comfortable and though I
haven't been here long I will miss them We
will all miss them. All of us here will forever
be thankful for the support they gave to our
fight. They will remain forever in our hearts!

Cultures in Conflict By Charles A. Jennings
The Union Desecration Of Southern Churches and Cemeteries
(plus much more)
After nearly 150 years, there still remains the scars of the Union Army’s savage policy of “total war” in
their invasion of the Christian South. Their aim was the destruction of Southern culture which included the
desecration of houses of worship and the resting place of the sacred dead.
Nothing was off limits; arson, rape, murder, thievery, grave-robbing and even physical torture. All this was
carried out with the silent approval of the Lincoln Administration and the pleasure of the Northern radicals.
This book is now being sold by the SLRC for $10 each (plus $4 shipping) and comes with a free Robert E.
Lee Bookmark. Make a note of how many copies you would like to order on the donation form or call us at
