Eligible to use time upon completion of 680th hour of work
Accrue 1 hour of paid sick time for every 40 hours actually worked
Max accrual is 40 hours per year Max usage is 40 hours per calendar year May carry-over max of 40 hours into the
next calendar year

Sick leave may only be used in lieu of previously scheduled hours for the following reasons:◦ To treat the employee’s own illness, injury or
health condition (including preventative care)◦ To treat the employee’s child or spouse’s illness,
injury or health condition◦ For the employee’s treatment or services
related to the employee’s status as a victim in a family violence or sexual assault incident

Leave must be taken in 1 hour increments◦ Cannot take partial hours
Departments may request medical documentation for leaves of 3 or more consecutive days
Student employees and University Assistants are not entitled to a payout for accumulated, but unused, sick leave

Student employees and University Assistants may ‘make up’ the missed hours of work during the same or following pay period in lieu of the hours missed, and shall not use accrued paid sick leave◦ Requires mutual consent of the student employee

No employer shall take retaliatory personnel action or discriminate against an employee for requesting or using paid sick time, or for filing a complaint alleging a violation of the Act.

If deemed non-compliant◦ Penalties ranging from $100 - $500 may be
assessed for each violation◦ Awards
Payment for used paid sick leave Rehiring or reinstatement to the employee’s previous

◦ Payroll will monitor sick time eligibility, track accruals and usage
Time may only be used for hours that were previously scheduled

Sick time cannot be charged to Federal Work Study awards◦ Federal Work Study Students Sick Time will be
charged to departments student labor account

Payroll will manage the expiration and/or carry-over of accrued sick time at end of calendar year◦ The carry-over maximum is 40 hours◦ Any time over 40 hours is dropped down to 40 hours for
the new year

Students cannot work more than 8 hours/day
Students during school year◦ Cannot work more than 20 hours per week
Students Recess and Summer ◦ No more than 40 hours per week
UAs cannot work more than 19 hours a week
For all terminations ◦ Supervisor needs to communicate notice to HR◦ Student supervisors required to send work
authorization form to HR
