Well - that was July! A hugely busy end to the term - but a hugely fabulous one!

We would all like to thank you for your support for Emma’s Secret Garden. As mentioned in the last newsletter,

classes were given a budget of just £15 and then challenged to turn that into as much money as they could to

go towards Emma’s garden. Classes could pool their resources - and many did. To date we have raised - £2200

profit! So thank you. The classes that made the most money are 3KS, 3JH and 3EA! These buddy entrepreneurs

seized the opportunity to start early in their campaign – setting up their sweet and ice-pop business during

sports day. Their publicity campaign and relentless focus on profit inspired children to write to local businesses

and attend personally, seeking auction prizes that were completed when Southampton Football Club donated a

signed football. The Year 2 raffle was inspired by Luke in Turtles who spent a weekend collecting raffle prizes

and selling tickets to neighbours and friends – this quickly grew until the whole year group were working hard

securing prizes as well as making their special jars. Dragonfly class made a staggering £77 - busking, drumming,

gymnastics and free-styling! Bee’s class actually had a ‘factory’ production line going at one point whilst making

their pegs and fridge magnets. Be sure to take your stone from the Year 2 stall away with you on holiday and

then add its picture to their Facebook page – #shamblehursttreasures! It would be amazing to see how many

places around the world that Shamblehurst can touch! The Year 6 entrepreneurs offered a variety of activities,

including busking, penalty shoot-out and a nail bar. The tea light wig-wams and dream catchers were also fab!

Year 5 sold sweets they made themselves - which sold out on day one! They also made great book marks that

you could write on! Year 4 had a selection of stock - including plants that they had grown from seeds as well as

lovely hanging ornaments that are just beautiful! Their hook a duck and bean bag game was also very

successful! You should have already received your photos from the Caterpillar’s class photo booth - as you can

see we have received ours!!!

We were nominated for 3 National awards in Rock Challenge - Stage Crew, Entertainment and Visual Enhancement. This is a brilliant achievement considering this was our very first year of entering. We have sent home some optional homework over the summer – hopefully that is fun but keeps the children learning and trying new things. It would be great if the children could send us a postcard during the summer, either from their holiday or telling us about what they have been up to over the six weeks.

Mrs Jones

We wish all our leavers, young and old, the very best in the next stage of their journeys, we will miss you all. Lastly, on behalf of all the staff at Shamblehurst, thank you for the lovely gifts we have all received, we are very grateful. We wish you a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to welcoming you back in September.

Sports Days

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the children during the sports days – what

fantastic weather we had!

Attendance Matters We are aiming for our whole school attendance to be at 97% - currently it is 96.7%. It is so important that your child regularly attends - the information below is from the Hampshire attendance website and gives a really clear message as to why attendance matters.

As a parent/carer you want the best for your children. Having a good education is an important factor in opening up more opportunities in adult life. Did you know that:

a child who is absent a day of school per week misses an equivalent of two years of their school life

90% of young people with absence rates below 85% fail to achieve five or more good grades of GCSE and around one third achieve no GCSEs at all

poor examination results limit young people’s options and poor attendance suggests to colleges and employers that these students are unreliable

poor school attendance is also closely associated with crime a quarter of school age offenders have truanted repeatedly

at least 1 million children take at least one half day off a year without permission

7.5 million school days are missed each year through unauthorised absence.

GCSEs may seem a long way off for you and your child but all absence at any stage leads to gaps in your child’s learning. This in turn can:

mean that they fall behind in work

affect their motivation

affect their enjoyment of learning

lead to poor behaviour

affect their desire to attend school regularly

affect their confidence in school

mean they miss out on the social life of school and extra-curricular opportunities and experiences

affect their ability to have or keep friendships.

As an exciting conclusion to our 'Plants' topic, Year 1 was able to observe and draw delicious fruits and vegetables. After that, we tasted each food, recording the taste and texture This rich learning experience was made

possible thanks to Lillie Leon's mum who donated a box, full to the brim of different fruits and vegetables.

A huge thank you to all of the Year 5 Buddies this year!

They have shown continual commitment, reliability and are great role models to our school.

We are looking forward to working with the new Year 5 Buddies, to encourage and support good play around the school.

Buddies Rock!

Mrs Jones and Mrs Millard

A big thank you to the JRSO’s: Ben Goddard, Micha Thompson and

Eva Lakey for great promoting of road safety and good teamwork around

the school.
