SOUTH YORKSHIRE FIRE & RESCUE - WHOLETIME FIREFIGHTER AND CREW MANAGER TRANSFERS

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (SYFR) is seeking applications for operational transfers in to the service from competent Wholetime Firefighters and Crew Managers. It is anticipated that the majority of individuals transferred in will form part of the SYFR Operational Resource Team or will be offered a contract on a Day Staffing Duty System. SYFR is unlikely to be accepting transfers in to the Close Proximity Crewing System at present, however if individuals are interested in this and wish to be considered to form a list for future opportunities if these arise, then please email us directly at [email protected]. (Please see attached Appendix A which outlines the SYFR Duty Systems and further information on the Operational Resource Team). Please note that SYFR are not currently seeking transfers in from Watch Manager level staff, however we will consider applications from current serving Watch Managers if those individuals are prepared to accept a contract at Crew Manager level (please note that such candidates would be required to successfully pass a SYFR WM Promotion Board in order to be considered for WM positions in the future).

APPLICATION PROCESS Individuals wishing to submit a formal application for consideration will need to complete the attached Operational Transfer In Application Form in full and submit this by 12:00 on Friday 20th October 2017 via email to [email protected].

Candidate Eligibility Criteria:

Wholetime, competent and substantive in the role applying for (If WM please state this)

‘In ticket’/Up to date with all operational training in line with your current service training policy

Prepared to voluntarily accept a contract to work on a Day Staffing Duty System or, alternatively, working within the Operational Resource Team (please note that applications from individuals only willing to accept a standard 2-2-4 Duty System contract will not be considered further by SYFR at this time)

Willing to undertake a Basic Disclosure Scotland or DBS check as relevant to role

Have a satisfactory Personal Development Review, Appraisal or equivalent for the last year

Not be in possession of any formal disciplinary sanctions at the point of application

Not be subject to any informal or formal development plans within current role at point of application

Acceptable references received from current UK Fire & Rescue Service

Be medically fit to undertake the role of operational Firefighter or Crew Manager as applicable

Additionally for CM Candidates:

Hold an Incident Command Level 1 Certificate or equivalent (equivalence will be assessed by the SYFR panel at the point of sift)

APPLICATION PROCESS: Initial Sift: SYFR will undertake an initial criteria based sift of all eligible applications and, if confirmed that you can progress to the next stage, you will be required to attend an assessment day as per the below dates.

Assessment Day: Please note that each candidate will only need to attend on one day. Assessment dates will be the 30th & 31st October 2017 and the 1st November 2017.

Crew Manager Applicants:

Operational Incident Command Assessment – XVR System Simulation

Operational & PQA Interview and Presentation

Firefighter Applicants:

Operational & PQA Interview Individuals will be informed as to whether they have been successful and those who have will receive a written offer of employment (subject to acceptable Medical, Substance Misuse Testing, Basic Disclosure Scotland (unspent criminal convictions), reference and training records) by the 7th November 2017. Medical Assessment: All candidates selected at an Assessment Day will progress through to a medical check with the SYFR Brigade Medical Officer. Conversion Course: Individuals will be required to undertake an Induction Process and Operational Conversion Course which will be run at the SYFR Training and Development Centre in Sheffield as per the below dates: SYFR Start Date: 14th December 2017 Induction: 14th & 15th December 2017 Conversion Course: 18th – 22nd December 2017 If you have any questions in relation to your application please contact us on 01142 532880 or at [email protected].

APPENDIX A South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (SYFR) Duty and Staffing Systems Duty Systems Wholetime 2-2-4 Duty System This duty system consists of crews working 2 day shifts followed by 2 night shifts followed by 4 rota days. Wholetime Day Staffing Duty System The Day Staffing Duty System consists of individuals working a set pattern of Day Shifts only. Wholetime Close Proximity Crew (CPC) Duty System This system involves individuals working a 24 hours period consisting of a Day Shift between 08:00 and 19:00 hours followed by a consecutive CPC Night Shift between 19:00 and 08:00 hours each day. From 19:00 hrs CPC staff will be on ‘stand down’ from all duties except responding to operational incidents and operationally essential work e.g. changing over appliances. This system is subject to a 30% salary increase on basic pay (pensionable) for the provision of night cover. Retained Duty System This duty system runs from a small number of stations within South Yorkshire and is provided by On Call Fire Crews who live or work within a 5 minute footprint of their local base station. Staffing Systems Operational Resourcing Team (ORT) The ORT consists of wholetime Firefighters and Watch Managers who offer cover as part of a flexible resourcing team working varied shifts. (This may include T/WMs). ORT members could be required to work any shift/system where staffing is required. This will be on a quarterly pre-planned basis although flexibility will be required where individual staffing needs arise. This system is subject to a 10% salary increase on basic pay (pensionable).
