Canteen Reminder

A reminder from the P & C - The canteen opens

at 9.00am and orders should be placed by the

time the school bell goes at 9.20am.

Why is mindfulness important?

Mindfulness is important because you can’t separate wellbeing and learning. One supports the other. Wellbeing affects how children think, learn and engage. Mindfulness can help with wellbeing, which in turn, improves student attention and learning outcomes. 1 Magpies enjoy weekly mindfulness sessions where they are improving self-awareness, emotional management, attention and concentration, relationship skills and decision making. This year's theme is FIND YOUR TREASURE. Our annual parade and special canteen lunch will be held on Wednesday 29 August at 12.30pm. Wanted! We are asking each student to bring in a glass jar for a project for our school fete. We don’t require the jars until Term 4, but want to get in early with the request to ensure each child has time to find a jar. Please send empty jars in to school any time this term and classroom teachers will store them with your child’s name on them. Example jars would be a Moccona coffee jar, Vegemite jar or Jam jar. All shapes and sizes will be great but please make sure the jar is clean! Thank you, Miss Annetts

Classic Shield Quarter Final - Goulburn 22 August

Well done to the all the boys on making it through to

the quarter finals of the state Rugby League

knockout, unfortunately we were beaten 10-4.

It has been a pleasure to coach such great kids who

always give their best whilst displaying excellent

sportsmanship. Thanks to Mortimer apparel for the

new jumpers. Bring on next year!

Thanks Helen Cooper

Trent Barrett Shield 21 August

The Stage 2 Rugby League team went to Paramore Park to compete in

the Wagga leg of the Trent Barrett Shield. We had plenty of supporters

there to cheer us on despite being such a cold and windy day. The boys

played some red hot football winning all 3 of our pool games by a total

margin of 132 points to 0. Great runs,

hard tackles and teamwork saw us

take out our final 32 – 4 and progress

through to the Riverina final on

the 4 September.

A notice about the Clothing Pool.

This is my last year with the clothing pool. I am looking for a person or persons to take it over. It entails the sorting, washing, ironing and hanging it in the designated positions. Leanne does all repairs. I open the pool at the moment on a Wednesday morning between 8.30am and 9.30am. It is also open for sales at the Fete. This is something that can basically be carried out at home. The clothing pool is a very important part of the school and your interest in this position is paramount. Please phone Jenny McNamara 0417736514.

Marketplace Education Week Chess Competition

The Chess Team participated in the Education Week Chess Tournament on 9 August 2018, in the second pool against Lake Albert

PS, Ladysmith PS and Wagga Wagga PS. Sixteen students participated in the four SWPS Teams A, B, C and D. The games were 10

minutes each with the student’s playing on individual boards and also on the large board as a team. The large board was fascinating

to watch as you heard the communication between the players as they adjusted to playing this usually individual game as a team.

All of the teams played very well, with SWPS Team B just knocking out SWPS Teams A and C to be the winners of our pool and

eligible to play North Wagga PS to determine the winners of the Marketplace Education Week Chess Competition. Games for the

final were played in front of the Education Week stage, with the games now having no time limit. Team B consisting of Ryan

Whalan, Ryan Tapfield, Xander Sutherland and Blaine Middleton played some great chess with Xander winning his game but the

others going down to an older more experienced North Wagga PS. Mrs Crevatin, Chess Coordinator

Principals Concert, The Riverina Anglican College

On the 16 August 2018, 45 students attended the Principal’s Concert at TRAC where they watched the TRAC Orchestra and Band

perform. The students joined into the performance with percussion instruments and body percussion under the guidance of the

conductor (and SWPS parent) Clare Brassil. The students then sat amongst the musicians while they were playing and the

musicians were kind enough to let all of the students have a go at their instruments.

The students were very excited to see their siblings and ex-students performing for them. If you have a budding musician at home

who would love the opportunity to play with their friends in the school band, then SWPS Band would love to see you! Please

contact Mr Harris or Mrs Crevatin for more information. The band practises in the school gym at 7.45am every Wednesday.
