Tompkins gave a short talk on fixing errors

    spontaneously and really encouraged planning

ahead before putting segmented pieces together.

Another tip was to always cut more pieces than

    you think you need.

The small birdhouse birds were reported to be

in the doll house section of Hobby Lobby now.

The bring back raffle items were won by: 1)

Glenn Goertz, 2) Leroy Cole, 3) Leroy Cole.

Paul Stagl won the gift certificate for the

    birdhouse monthly challenge. The demon-

stration was given by John Nicholas and Jim

Orange on several ways for producing hollowforms.

At the picnic on the 27th of Oct., the winning

pieces for the Guy Waldo Challenge were

produced by: 1st Place- Paul Stagl (R), 2nd Place-

November Meeting:The Demo will be how

to turn a freehand s here.

Meeting News: 27 SKW membersattended the October meeting and 1 guest

(Richard Shrader). The minutes of the Sept.

workshop were approved by the membership

as reported in the Oct. newsletter.

Gordon Beehler reported SKW had funds of:

Cash- $1264.00. The library fund is $354.00

of that amount. Gordons report was

    approved as presented.

An introduction of the club guest, Richard

Shrader followed and then John Nicholas

handed out the numbers and rules for the

Guy Waldo Challenge to be judged at thepicnic.

Phil Heinz then talked about the picnic to be

held on the 27th from 2:30 to 6 pm. He

reminded members that they should bring at

least 1 turned item for the spousal raffle and

explained how the raffle works for the new

members. He then reminded members to

bring their raffle turning, a covered dish for

the meal and their Guy Waldo Challenge

pieces if they entered the challenge. Phil

also reminded members there would be a

donation jar at the picnic with proceeds to be

used for offsetting the meat charge for the

    picnic.

Show & Tell had 13 participants. Greg

I hope everyone enjoyed the picnic! It was

nice to see all the wives out for the raffle and

to eat some of that wonderful food! Lots of

good eats, unfortunately it goes on my waist

    line!

Last month our Demo was How to turn a

Hollow Form and make everyone think you are

GREAT! I hope members have had more of a

chance to turn a hollow form for the challenge

than I have. This next week will be full of

turning, if I am going to catch up.

I have spent the last week in San Antonio, TX

doing some work related training. The pictureis one of several tree trunks in the Training

    Center.

I lucked into a schedule that allowed me to

go up to Kerrville, TX on Thursday evening

and attend the Hill Country Woodturners

Chapter Meeting. They had above 50 members

in attendance and some guests. Great Show N

Tell. Good Demo! Nice group! Certainly

better than one more night in the motel room.

Our Demo for November will be Freehand

Turning a sphere! I have attended several

demos over the years on turning spheres. We

do spheres for Christmas Ornaments, toys, and

other projects. The sphere shape can be used

when you turn a scoop, or a bowl, a box, and

other common turning projects. No need for

fancy shop made chucks, expensive sphere

turning jigs or other stuff. A couple of pieces of

wood turned to assist and your work piece.

Nothing fancy! Just a bowl gouge, a spindle

roughing gouge, a parting tool and a scraper.

I look forward to seeing all of you Saturday, with

a longer report on the Hill Country Texas

    Woodturners Club Meeting.

    John Nicholas

Next months meeting will be December 15,

2012. The Nov. monthly challenge is to be a

    hollow form.

    MembersPlease remember that your yearly

dues of $35 for 2013 are due before Dec. 31.

Please consider renewing your membership at

the Nov. meetin or no later than the Dec. one.
