RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. Entries ­ All entries must be on the official entry form. No entry will be considered valid unless the entry form has been completed in full. ­ Breed prefixes on exhibits at Show must be those of the Breeder. Any name discrepancy

will mean elimination.

­ Breed classes ­ registration number must be stated at the time of entry. ­ The name of the entered exhibit must be the same name as on the RAS Certificate

(Annual or Life). If sponsorship is secured and the name of the sponsor is required to be

added to the exhibit's name, an application must be made to the RAS Head Office for a

replacement certificate. ­ The South Island Premier Show Committee will not be held responsible for any accident,

loss or damage that may be caused to, or suffered by any exhibit, person or property and it

shall be a condition that the signing of the entry form, that each exhibitor shall hold the

Committee indemnified against any claim.

2. ­ Entry Fees and Fees must accompany entries. There will be no refund of entry fees

under any circumstances except on presentation of a Doctors/Veterinary Certificate to

be produced before or within 7 days of the day of show – 75% of entries will be

refunded. No refunds under $20 will be made except where grading affects the class. ­ Substitution of any entry can only be made at the discretion of the Show/Committee.

­ The Show/Event reserves the right to refuse or cancel any entry. ­ Entries will be returned if the compulsory fees are not paid.

3. Arrears ­ No person who is in arrears with regard to entry fees, subscriptions, or any

other Show/Event charge is eligible to compete at any affiliated Show. Proof of

payment will be required before any restriction is lifted

4. The Show Committee reserve the right to alter, change or combine classes

5. Judging will commence at 8.00am sharp on Friday, Saturday & Sunday

8.30am sharp. Exhibitors must be ready to enter the ring when the class is

called. No late exhibitors may enter the ring if judging has commenced.

6. Classes will not be held up if you have entered more than one section.

7. Exhibitors must carry a current official RAS Life or Horse/Pony annual height and

performance card, failure to do so will result in elimination.

8. All protests must be in writing, and lodged, with the Secretary either before or after the

Judges have proceeded to their duties. Any exhibitor entering a protest must deposit

$100, which will be forfeited if the protest were not sustained. If the protest is lodged

before the Judges proceed to their duties, the onus of proof will rest with the exhibitor. If

after that the onus of proof will be with the party protesting. No protest will be received

later than half an hour after the prize tickets are affixed. The Committee will decide all

protests as soon as practicable, and there should be no appeal from their decision

9. Stallions ­ All Stallions & Colts (with the exception of Miniature horses & foals) must be shown in a bit. ­ The Steward will order any stallion/colt considered out of control or to be causing

undue disquiet to other horses from the ring without recourse from the stallion/colts,

owner/exhibitor/competitor.

­ It is compulsory for all stallions/colts except for foal, to wear two (2) official ‘S’

identification badges, one attached to each side of their bridle, at all shows/events at all

times. The rider must also wear two (2) RAS official armbands (one on each arm) when in

the ring. ­ Handlers and Riders of stallions/colts must wear an approved Hi Viz vest at Shows/Events when outside the show ring ­ Stallions may enter at the Committee’s discretion

10. Mares ­ ‘Dry’ mare is a mare not to foal during the current show season (1 August to 31 July) ­ Mares shown in Broodmareclasses must have a foal at foot or present a veterinary certificate of pregnancy that includes a projected foaling date. Mares shown in the summer season without a foal at foot would be expected (before Christmas) to be a late foaling in the summer or autumn, or (after Christmas) to have weaned an early foal and be back in foal with a spring due date. Mare falling into either of the above categories should prove eligibility with a veterinary certificate. Anything less will be unacceptable. ­ Broodmares with a foal at foot are ineligible for ridden or harness classes

11. In all Ridden classes, ponies/horses must be three (3) years or over. ­ Led Exhibits three(3) yrs & under shall only be eligible for the Youngstock Championship

and any other special award that may be stated in the conditions of the Show/Event.

12. This Show/Event supports the RAS, ‘Yellow Card” system A Yellow Card will be

issued, In cases of offences in respect of abuse of animals or inappropriate behavior

as per the RAS Constitution and the RAS Rules & Regulations/Bylaws including the

Equestrian Rulebook, the RAS affiliated Show/Event/registered Measuring Stand and

their grounds and their duly appointed delegates may deliver to the Person

Responsible a Yellow Warning Card (either immediately or within 10 days of the show)

which suspends and penalty until possible new offences. Full wording of the ‘Yellow

Card’ system is available to view on the RAS website ­ www.ras.org.nz

13. Forbidden Substance ­ The Rules of the Royal Agricultural A&P Society New Zealand in

regard to Forbidden Substances apply. Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden

substances may be carried out during the Show/Event and that testing of all animals is

at the person responsible risk. Forbidden Substance ­ Any substance capable of

affecting the speed, stamina, courage or conduct of a horse, pony, donkey or mule by

its action upon the central or peripheral nervous system or the cardiovascular,

respiratory, digestive, musculoskeletal or urogenital systems.

14. Summary of RAS Resolution Process ­ the full process can be found on the RAS website www.ras.org.nz.The principle behind the process is to deal with the matter as it comes to hand and in most cases it should be dealt with directly by the show. If the matter is in regards to an RAS official, the show may request the assistance of the RAS Head Office as to how to deal with this in an appropriate manner.

15. Wearing a hard hat is compulsory for anyone competing on, working in, schooling or

riding for any other reason, a horse at the Show/Showgrounds

­ All Riders on Novice exhibits and 16yrs and under must wear protective headgear,

which Includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than 2 points. Such

headgear must be worn with the chinstrap properly adjusted and fastened, anywhere

within the Showgrounds.

­ Hats/helmets must conform to the current standards.

16. Number Holders ­ To be worn by either Horse or Handler. Compulsory for all classes

/sections, both Led & Ridden. No Back Numbers will be provided. Correct Back

Numbers must be displayed for each entry in the class.

17. Entry Fees: $11.00 per Class (includes RAS Levy)

Entry Fees: $16.00 per Championship (includes RAS Levy)

Entry Fees: $21.00 per Title Class (includes RAS Levy)

Catalogues: $ 8.00 to be prepaid with entries (Compulsory)

Ground Fee: $15.00 per horse, full show (Compulsory)

Judges Travel Fund: $ 2.00 per entry (Compulsory)

Stables: $25.00 per day or $50.00 for full show

Camping: Free ­ Please note: No Power

18. Stables and Yards must be cleaned out once finished with. There is to be No

Smoking in Stables. Any person found smoking in the stables may be fined $500.

Stables will be allocated on a first in, first served basis.

19. All horses must have an ID tag on their halters while at the Show (& stabled) with a

name and cell/ph number.

20. A Novice is a Horse or Pony that has yet to win (6) firsts in any division within

conformation classes at any A&P or RAS affiliated Show as at the date of the

Show.(Ladies & Gentlemen’s Hack class wins count as a conformation class).

Number of wins is as of day of show. If a Novice entry gains 6 wins by the day of the

show the competitor is to advise the secretary's office and may change to an another

class or a refund will be offered.

21. Novice Ponies/Horses are able to enter Open Riding classes & Title classes.

22. You must have entered & competed in a Ridden Class before being eligible to enter

Title Classes.

23. Age of Riders/Handlers­A Riders/Handlers age and eligibility is determined as per the

1st August i.e Riders/Handlers who are of age for any division/section on 1 August

complete the show/year in that division/section.

­ Lead Rein classes are restricted to riders under eight (8) yrs of age with a minimum

age four (4) yrs, who are not competing in any other section at the show. To be led by

an attendant fourteen (14) yrs or over

­ First Ridden classes are restricted to riders under ten (10) yrs of age, who are not

competing in any other section at the show.

­ Novice Pony exhibits (except Novice Pony Stallions) may be ridden by a rider of any

age.

­ Novice Pony Stallions must be ridden by a rider fourteen (14) yrs & over.

­ Open Pony exhibits must be ridden by riders under seventeen (17) yrs of age.

­ Open Pony Stallions must be ridden by a rider fourteen (14) fifteen (15) or sixteen

(16) yrs of age. Led Handlers must be fourteen (14) yrs & over.

­ Riders in horse rings (exhibits over 148cm) must be twelve (12) yrs & over.

­ Stallions over 148cm must be led or ridden by a rider seventeen (17) yrs & over

24. Any unruly horse or pony may be asked to leave the ring and/or grounds at the

discretion of the Judge or Member in Charge.

25. No temporary fences are to be erected for the confinement of horses.

27. All times listed in the schedule/catalogue are approximate, please be ready for your

class.

28. Riders please note:

­ Rider classes in Breed/Open sections are not a rider qualification for HOY. The

Rider age group titles on Sunday are the qualifying classes.

­ Title classes on Sunday with the exception of Rider Titles are not HOY qualifiers. As

per the new rules & regs of the RAS; Lead Rein, First Year Ridden, Show Ponies

Group A,B,C, Saddle Hunter Pony, Park Hack, Hack, Riding Horse, Saddle Hunter,

Working Hunter Pony & Horses will be judged for Champion & Reserve from the

respective winners of the conformation classes, with Second to the Champion to be

judged alongside the remaining winners for Reserve. ­Sashes only will be presented

to the Champion & Reserve.

­ SI Premier Championship Titles for respective sections will be judged by 3 Judges

and awarded prize money & awards as per index.

Horse & Pony Section:

Lead Rein Pony: In this section the judging criteria is 60% suitability, temperament and safeness, and 40% conformation

and paces. Riders in this section may not enter any other section, unless in a Lead Rein Breed section. Riders must be

under eight (8), with a minimum age of four (4) years. Ponies to be led by a leader/attendant fourteen (14)

yrs & over with the lead rein attached to the caveson noseband of a snaffle bridle. Ponies will be asked to

walk and trot ­ no cantering under any circumstances. Running or bearing reins or similar tackle are not

allowed.

First Ridden Pony: Riders in this section may not enter any other section, unless in a First Ridden class/s in a Breed

section. First Ridden Combination is only able to compete in the First Ridden Combination section for a maximum of

twenty-four (24) months from the date of their first show. The age limit in the First Ridden Section is under 10 years. In this section the judging criteria is 60%

suitability, temperament and safeness, 40% conformation & paces. First Ridden Ponies must be ridden in a snaffle bridle with a caveson noseband, and a snaffle bit and a

single rein. www.ras.org.nz for approved list of bits.

Sport Pony/Hunter Pony: A Sport Pony/Hunter Pony should have substance, be active and well mannered with strong easy paces

and be capable of carrying weight for long distances over varied country.

Riding Horse: Riding Horse’s are saddle horses who do not fit the criteria of Hacks/Park Hacks or Saddle Hunters in

type, but somewhere in between. A quality horse, they must possess the conformation, soundness,

manners and paces of a show horse and be capable of carrying a Lady or Gentleman rider pleasantly for

longer journeys. Horses will be required to gallop within the confines and constraints of the venue.

Saddle Hunter: Hunters shown under saddle should show substance, be active and well mannered with strong easy paces.

The horse must be capable of carrying weight over long distances and varied country. A Saddle Hunter will

not be required to jump but must gallop within the confines and constraints of the venue.

Working Hunter Ponies/Horses: Working Hunters are required to demonstrate jumping ability and be of good strong conformation with good

manners, sound paces and be a comfortable ride over long distances. They will be required to jump a

minimum of three (3) hunter type fences. Jumping style and ability 40%, conformation 30%, paces & manners 30%. Horse will be required to

gallop within the confines and constraints of the venue. No boots or bandages permitted.

Equitation: In Equitation Classes the rider has a choice to wear a three point Harness Safety Helmet.

Riders opting to wear a safety riding helmet will be judged on ‘equal terms’ as a rider

wearing the traditional bowler hat and lanyard.

Junior & Intermediate:Junior Costume may be informal or Children’s, Intermediate Costume semi­formal or informal. Well kept older gear should be marked higher than new gear

Senior:Costume to be formal. Saddlery will be judged on quality, condition and suitability. Riding Ability (50) Turnout – Saddlery (20) Rider Turnout (20) General Overall Appearance (20)(60) Pony/Horse–Conformation & Soundness (50) Manners & Paces (40) (90) = Total: 200 points

The above Prize Money and Awards are the minimum that each

winner will receive. As our Sponsorship of product/voucher come in,

they will be distributed evenly throughout the schedule.

Product made available by sponsors may substitute for cash prizes. In the Open Ridden Sections the Champion & Reserve are sashes only.

This is a RAS requirement and additional to the SI Premier Championship Titles.
