One of the things that I love about the winter (besides the holidays) is that it is time for basketball. Beyond the spectacular passes, dunks, steals, and three-point shots, what I enjoy most is standing on the court watching our student-athletes become adults.

It is amazing to watch these young people learn to support and lead each other. Listening to them hold each other accountable and inspire their teammates to work hard is a great source of pride for me. These experi-ences exemplify why sports, and in particular basketball, are a vital part of the learning experience at South Gwinnett High School.

I want to thank you for your continued support of our basketball pro-gram. Our success is due in large part to the dedication of our business sponsors, booster club members, and parent volunteers. I hope that you know that your support will help us continue to be a great school, com-munity, and nation.

Welcome to South Gwinnett High School for tonight’s basketball games. The players, coaches and cheer-leaders have put a tremendous amount of hard work into preparing for this exciting season of Comet Bas-ketball. These students and coaches deserve our ap-preciation for their time and sacrifice. Our student-ath-letes have worked hard on both the court and in the classroom to get to this point today. South Gwinnett Basketball has a rich tradition of ex-cellence and has been a great source of pride for our school and the entire Snellville Community. South Basketball is an annual contender for Region and State Championships, and this season will bring the same excitement for Comet Fans as the Comets take the court. The 2011-12 season will be an exciting sea-son in Region 8-AAAAA with strong Comet Teams fac-ing the very best teams in our Region and State.

I would like to thank you for your support of South Gwinnett Basketball and would ask you to continue to lend your support to these fine young men, ladies and coaches this season as they work to bring another championship season to our school and community.
