410 South College • Tahlequah, Oklahoma 74464 • 918-456-3414 Volume 7, No. 11 - November 2008 David Deffenbaugh Pulpit Minister The SOUTH COLLEGE CHURCH of CHRIST BULLETIN Something happened in this year’s “Fall Classic” (that’s the World Series for all you baseball uninitiated readers) that has never happened before. A game in the series (it happened to be game 5) was halted in the middle of the contest due to weather conditions and postponed to be completed on a later day. At this writing, they still have not resumed play. Just three and a half innings are needed to complete that game. If one of the teams emerges the victor, the series will be over. If the other teams wins, it could take two more games to decide the winner. This has never happened before. The baseball world is in limbo. Finishing what you start is an important spiritual principle. Paul rebuked the Galatian Christians because they had started well, but stopped in their spiritual journey (Gal. 1:6; 5:7). They needed to get going again. One of the greatest statements made by Jesus was His final one from the cross. “It is finished” (John 19:30). He had completed that which He had come to do. There may yet be spiritual goals or tasks in your life that need to be completed before this year ends. You may have at some time removed yourself from the race that is our spiritual life (Heb. 12:1). No matter the circumstance, we all need to finish what we have started. Let’s take a quick look back on our Friends and Family Day.Wasn’t that a great day? We had so many visitors with us, it just wasn’t possible to get around to them all. I know we had some who have now attended several of these annual events in a row. We had a large group who were with us after having spent the previous part of the weekend at a retreat at Burnt Cabin. I also know that sinse we had our day one week later than we have had in the recent past, many of our members had already made previous plans that took them out of town. It was a great day and we thank every one for their efforts in helping to make the day a success. I am greatly encouraged by your response to our third- Wednesday series on “Equipping the Saints.” I encourage everyone to be present on November’s third Wednesday (the 19th) as we’ll be participating in a gifts and ministries survey. This is an exercise to help you to think more specifically about what your ministry in the church might be. Don’t say, “Well, I don’t have a ministry.” If that is the case, you are either not a Christian or you are not in the Lord’s “David’s Article” continued on page 7 TEEN CONNECTIONS NOVEMBER 9TH Worship: 5:00 pm Meal: 6:00 pm Speaker: Zach Shaffer Teens from all over Northeastern Oklahoma will be here to worship and share a meal with us.
