The Railers have been led offensively by forward Nic Pierog, who has picked up 34 points in 47 games this season on a team-leading 21 goals and 13 assists. Forward Barry Almeida is once again at the forefront of the team’s offensive attack this season, posting 33 points on 14 goals and 19 assists in 46 games with Worcester. Almeida has been with the Railers in all three of their ECHL seasons, totaling 146 points in 186 games. Blueliner Ryan MacKinnon leads Worcester in scoring from the back end with 13 points (2g, 11a) in 41 outings. In net, Evan Buitenhuis has carried the load and made 36 appearances which leads the team.

All-Time History vs. Worcester Sunday’s meeting is the fourth-ever contest between South Carolina and Worcester, with the Railers in their third ECHL season. The Stingrays have come away with wins in all three of the two teams’ previous matchups with a pair of 4-1 wins on Feb. 9, 2018 and Jan. 4, 2019 before a 2-0 shutout victory on Mar. 10, 2019. Sunday’s game is the second battle to occur in North Charleston. The two teams will meet again on Saturday in Massachusetts at the DCU Center for their final meeting of the 2019-20 season.

Cherniwchan Riding 7-Game Goal Scoring Streak Team captain Andrew Cherniwchan is on a 7-game goal streak after scoring in all four of SC’s contests last week and netting power play goals in both of the team’s games this week on Tuesday and Saturday. The run is the longest active goal-scoring streak in the league and his 27 total goals this season are second-most in the ECHL. Cherniwchan also ranks third in shots on goal with 187, second with four shorthanded goals, and seventh with a +26 rating.

Weis Washes Away The Competition South Carolina forward Matthew Weis was named last week’s ECHL Player of the Week after scoring 11 points in four games on three goals and eight assists, which was the most of any player in the league. His best game came in the team’s 9-1 win in Norfolk last Wednesday when he notched six points on two goals and four assists along with a +6 rating. The 6-point game is tied for the second-highest scoring output from an ECHL player this season. Weis has now posted assists in seven consecutive games and has totaled 37 points this season in 35 games on 10 goals and 27 assists.

Ully’s Impressive Run Forward Cole Ully is on a 7-game point streak for South Carolina that includes three multi-point outings. The Calgary, Alberta native has collected 44 points in 45 games overall this season on 11 goals and 33 assists. This week, Ully had a goal and an assist in a win at Jacksonville on Sunday before picking up another helper in the team’s 6-2 win over Greenville on Tuesday night. He then scored his 11th goal of the season on Saturday in a shootout win over Atlanta. Ully has had a plus-minus rating of even or above in every game so far during the month of February and at least three shots on goal in each of his last five contests.

SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS HOCKEYDeSalvo Loaned To Chicago Wolves The Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League announced Sunday that they’ve signed forward Dan DeSalvo to a professional tryout agreement. The 27-year-old attacker has been excellent for South Carolina this season, scoring 47 points in 45 games on 19 goals and 28 assists. It’s his second AHL opportunity during 2019-20, previously joining the Cleveland Monsters for three games from Dec. 29 until Jan. 16 and recorded two assists. DeSalvo, who is in his fifth professional season, will get his first opportunity to play for the Wolves who are located minutes away from his hometown of Rolling Meadows, Illinois. He previously spent the 2018-19 season on an AHL deal with Cleveland and appeared in 50 games while scoring 16 points on five goals and 11 assists.

Milner Continues His Excellent Play Stingrays goaltender Parker Milner leads the ECHL with a goals-against average of 2.07 after 26 games played this season. He is also 4th-best in the league with a save percentage of 0.926. After going 3-0-0 last week, Milner’s overall record on the year is 19-3-2-1 and the Pittsburgh native leads the league with seven shutouts.

Steve Whitney Re-assigned To Stingrays The Hershey Bears announced the reassignment of forward Steve Whitney to SC on Friday. The 29-year-old attacker is in his second consecutive year on an AHL contract with the Bears and has played in 14 AHL games this season, scoring four points on two goals and two assists. Whitney has recently been sidelined with an injury and prior to Saturday’s game had not appeared in any action since Nov. 16. The forward is returning to SC for the first time since spending 2017-18 with the Rays and posting 54 points with 18 goals and 36 assists in 59 games. A native of Boston, Mass., Whitney is in his seventh professional season. With Hershey in 2018-19, the 5-foot-7, 168-pound forward had 16 points (9g, 7a) in 60 games.

4-Goal Second Sends Stingrays Past Swamp RabbitsThe South Carolina Stingrays used a 4-goal second period to blow past the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on their way to a fifth straight win on Tuesday night by a score of 6-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum. Six different skaters found the back of the net for South Carolina and four had multi-point efforts led by Eddie Wittchow and Mark Cooper who each had a goal and an assist in the victory. Goaltender Logan Thompson made the start and turned aside 26 shots to earn his 20th win of the season for the Stingrays. The two teams have one matchup left to take place in Greenville which will close out the Stingrays’ regular season on April 1.

Rays Complete Perfect Week With 3-1 Win Over IcemenGoals from Andrew Cherniwchan, Matthew Weis and Cole Ully were enough to get the South Carolina Stingrays their fourth win in five days on Sunday in a 3-1 defeat of the Jacksonville Icemen at the Veterans Memorial Arena. Rays’ goaltender Parker Milner made the start for the second straight day and earned the first star of the game with 16 saves to pick up his fourth straight win and 18th victory overall during the 2019-20 season. Weis (1g, 1a), Ully (1g, 1a) and Dan DeSalvo (2a) each registered two points for SC. The Stingrays outshot Jacksonville 24-17 in the contest and had the only man-advantage goal in the game.
