About efflorescence:

All cement products are susceptible toefflorescence. While we know how and whyefflorescence occurs, it is almost impossible toprevent.

When cement, which contains lime, is mixed withsand, rock, and water, the lime in the cementturns into calcium hydroxide. Although concrete issolid, there are millions of microscopic pores fromthe surface to the interior. As concrete cures,water and calcium hydroxide migrate to thesurface and form a hard, white substance calledefflorescence that sticks to the concrete surface.As long as the concrete is curing, efflorescencecan continue to form. It will eventually disappear,but it could take months or years.

Efflorescence can be removed by using aprofessional strength masonry cleaner. Aftercleaning, apply a masonry sealer to eliminateefflorescence from reoccurring.
