Built in 1974, midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, it is the highest-capacity commercial airport in the world and one of two international gateway airports in Texas. As a major hub of Fort Worth–based American Airlines, DFW Airport offers business travelers a high-frequency schedule and access to any major city in the continental United States in less than four hours. Cargo operations, which amounted to 684,300 metric tonnes in FY 2014, serve 17 major markets around the world, including several key markets in Asia. DFW Airport is currently upgrading its 4 original terminals with a $2.3 billion dollar ‘Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program’ (TRIP) and is expected to be completed in 2017. Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport is an economic engine for the region, generating $16.6 billion in economic impact annually.
