Fidelity

This library was captured in a dry and neutral studio environment as well as a large epic hall and other environments. However, we also don't use low pass filtering in our recordings, because we believe in capturing the full depth and power of a sound source. It's much easier and more preferable to remove unwanted bass after the fact than it is to try to recreate and restore those lost elements after the fact. Also be aware that some sound sources are very quiet and to capture their full clarity and detail, it is necessary to allow low levels of preamp and mic hiss to exist in the recordings. We carefully choose our equipment and methods to prevent this wherever possible, but some sounds are just very small. Therefore, please do keep in mind that we don't claim or aim to provide perfectly quiet or perfectly sterile sounds or musical instrument samples.

Accessibility

All of the sample content and impulse files are included as standard non-encrypted PCM wav files and standard open-format Kontakt presets to allow you easy access to manipulate, reprogram and customize the sounds however you prefer. We know that it’s important for many users to be able to go beyond the limitations of any one sampler or preset structure, so we’ve kept this library’s directories and files open for advanced users. As a professional, you may have your own workflow or format requirements, and we trust that you'll respect our hard work and won't share this content with anyone who hasn't paid for it.

Keep in mind that to use and/or edit the Kontakt presets, you’ll need the full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 4.2.4 or later. Please be aware that the free Kontakt “Player” and any other version or form of Kontakt that came bundled with any other library or software product (other than NI’s “Komplete” package) will not support this library. The free Kontakt Player is NOT a full version of Kontakt and cannot load or play standard open-format Kontakt instruments or libraries.

While you can reprogram the samples or presets to other formats, we always recommend using Kontakt for best results, since it widely considered the industry standard and easily the most powerful sample programming and playback platform on the market. However, if you wish to convert or reprogram the wav files and instrument presets into any other sampler or softsynth format, including free and open-source standards like SFZ, then there are a variety of great tools that you can use to customize this library, such as Extreme Sample Converter and Chickensys Translator. Just be aware that not all settings and properties will translate accurately, reliably or even at all from one instrument or audio format to the next, due to vast differences in standards, behaviors, structures and capabilities that each platform relies on.

System Requirements

The full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 4.2.4 or later is required to use this library. Please be aware that many instrument and multi-instrument programs in this library are extremely ram/cpu and hard disk-streaming resource intensive. We recommend that you have at least 2GB of system ram, a dual core cpu and at least a 7200 rpm SATA hard disk before purchasing this or any other Soundiron library. Large sample sets like those found in this library may load slowly and may cause system instability on older machines.

ABOUT THIS LIBRARY

System Requirements

Please be aware that many instrument and multi-instrument programs in this library are extremely ram/cpu and hard disk-streaming resource intensive. We highly recommend that you have a 64-bit operating system (Windows or OSX) with at least 4GB of system ram, a quad-core cpu and a 7200 rpm SATA hard disk or better before purchasing this particular Soundiron library. Large sample sets like those found in this library may load slowly and may cause system instability on older machines.

Download & Installation

We provide the Continuata Connect download manager to offer high-speed, reliable and fully automated library downloading and installation. Download and run the latest version for your OS (PC or Mac) before proceeding. You may also need to add special permissions to your security software for the downloader, if it blocks applications from accessing the web.

Next, copy-paste your download code from your download email into the Code box in the downloader window. Make sure to leave out any spaces before or after the code. Press the download button and select the location you'd like to download and install the library. It will automatically start downloading the file(s) and then error-check, extract and install the finished library. Once installation is fully complete, you can remove the .rar download files and store them in a safe place as a back-up copy. We always recommend downloading the latest version of our downloader before you begin. The link in your email will always take you to the latest version.

Don't move, rename, delete or modify any of the files or folders created during the download until after you see the status message for all files in your download queue display the word "INSTALLED". Please don't close the downloader while it's actively downloading, unless you press the pause button first. To resume downloading, press the Resume button. If you need to resume downloading after closing the downloader, run it again and enter your code and press Download again. Then select the same download/installation location on your computer that you chose originally.

If the downloader reports a DL Error or Install error, it will automatically try to download the file again until it successfully downloads and verifies all the data it needs. It’s best to allow it to finish the process before trying to move or access the library data. Please see your download email for more detailed instructions.

Manual Download

If you have any trouble with our Downloader utility or prefer to use your browser or another download manager, log into your personal manual download page on our website, by using the direct link in your download email. Log in using your download code. Or, if you used the downloader originally, but you need to re-install the library manually for any reason at a later time you can always re-use the original rar files. To do that, you'll need Winrar, UnrarX or another full-featured Rar extraction utility to extract and install the library. Please note that Stuffit Expander and Winzip DON’T support many types of common rar files.

Preset Loading

Once installation is complete, you can browse and load the included .nki presets using the Files or Database tabs in the Kontakt Browser, or through the main File load/save menu. Please allow presets to finish loading completely before loading a new one. You can’t use the Libraries view to load standard open-format Kontakt Instruments like this library. Only locked “Powered-By-Kontakt” Libraries are visible to that propriety browser view. The “Add-Library” function does not support this product or any other open-format Kontakt library. This library doesn’t require any special activation.

M 2 INSTRUMENT PROGRAMS

Air Traffic ControlA collection of sliced up recordings of air traffic controller chatter broadcast from SFO. Whiskey tango foxtrot. Mapped from c-1 to c7.

Air Traffic Control fxFX version mapped from c-1 to c7 This patch uses Kontakt's harmonizing 'tone machine' system. However, the tone machine system doesn't handle sample end points well. It unavoidably causes pops and clicks if a note is held until the end of the sample. However, even with the pops, we still think this patch is cool sounding and playable enough to include in our library.

Baritone sax phrases & Baritone sax fx34 short phrases, 15 longer solos, all with mod/pitch wheel phrase sculpting. These are a small collection of short and long baritone saxiphone phrases we recorded some years ago with musician SF musician Josh Smith ([email protected]). Both patches make use of our special phrase sculpting system, just as we use in the Forgotten Voices: Francesca vocal library. It allows you to choose where in the phrase you want the sample to start (using the modwheel).A modwheel (CC1) value of 0 starts the sample at it's beginning, while a value of 127 plays back near the end of the phrase. When the pitch wheel is centered, the phrase plays back at normal speed. Rolling it all the way down plays the phrase at about -40%.All the way up plays it at about +40% of normal.Try it out and you'll quickly get used to it, allowing you to tailor each phrase to your needs.

Boom Whackers560 samples, 7 layers, 10x rr These are colorful plastic tubes, each cut to a certain length coresponding to a note. They are sold in bundles, covering about an octave. The shorted one is about 16" long and the longest is over 36" in length. They can often be found in the gift shops of science themed children's museums. The FX patch uses built-in convolution and cutom tweaking to create kind of a plucked effect. The soft-attack patch brings out more of the warm tonality of the instrument, using a variety of effects, filters and adsr setting tweaks. All three patches also include our "room-control" feature, using the modwheel to expand and contract the "size" of the room the boomwhackers are played in.

Wooden Planter BoxThis is a collection of 3 different wooden crates in a large hall, played with bass drum mallets. The 'Kaboom' patch is extended way down into the bass range, providing a satisfying booming quality. Both patches feature our "room-control" feature, using the modwheel to expand and contract the "size" of the room the boxes are played in.

The Deceiver56 samples, 56x rr, C0-C4. We can't say what manner of strange beast this sound was produced by, but we found it in the depths of a small cave somewhere in the wilderness of the Pinnacles National Monument, in central California. All is not as it seams...

Snaps96 samples, 12 layers, 8x rr, A0-E1 Fingers snapping in a dry space. A handy little instrument to have at your finger tips.

M 2 Tuned Water Glasses

216 samples, 4-6 layers, 6x rr, C0-F2. Small glasses filled with water at varying levels, played by hand with wooden chopsticks in a small, dry space.

Fuzz Kit Bass & Snare120 samples, 6 layers, 10x rr, C-2 to D2 (bass) and D#2 to G8 (snare). A funky set of fuzzed out kick and snare.

Human Trumpetgregg-o-phones: 10 Layers of modwheel control, C-2 to G8. Single notes: 72 samples, C0 to D7. BEWARE, this portion of the library is NOT for the faint of heart or anyone with a weak stomach. We went all the way for you guys this time.We set out to sample the human condition as deeply as it's ever been done.We went right down to the soul and found the music that lives inside each and every one of us.And we captured that music - just for you - at the very moment of release. All the sounds are the real deal - and it took us about a year to create this ungodly collection, including a very, very bad experience (food poisoning) with Spaghetti Meatballs.

Morphable Looping Pads These are 9 "tuned" looping pads. Ok, barely tuned. Each layer has individual release triggers and you can sculpt them using the modwheel. The basic patch is just as nature intended, which each fx patch getting more and more warped and twisted. gregg-o-phone_fx3.nki is the most playable melodic patch, as it uses Kontakt's harmonizing 'tone machine' system. However, the tone machine system doesn't handle loop points or sample ends well and adds regular pops and clicks. Even with the pops, we still think this patch is bad ass. Literally.

Massives125 samples, 5 sets, 4-8 velocity layers, 5x rr, C0 to C3. These are a big set of monsterous boomers, clangs and bombs, perfect for dramatic stingers, huge drum blasts and special effects. If you try to play these too fast, we promise you that your speakers will clip. They're just huge. If you do trailers, these are for you.

Music BoxesThese are just a variety of small hand-cranked music boxes, recorded in a variety of locations. We also included wind-up sound effects, chopped into playable percussion and effects.

Plastic Water Jug87 samples, 25 - 31 layers Playing a large plastic water jub by hand, in a large bright hall. The 'basic' patch is mapped as-is, while the other one extends the mapping way into bass territory. Both patches feature our "room-control" feature, using the modwheel to expand and contract the "size" of the room the jug is played in.

PVC Orchestra WetThis is a 4-man ensemble of pvc "horns". Actually, we're all just blowing through a bunch of 1" diameter pipes of various lengths, angles and orientiations to produce fat brass-like tones and effects.

M 2 PVC Ensemble Patches

Polydrones and Group Wailing 49 polyphonic brass-like droning phrases. These are good for warping into ambient drones maybe? That's what I would do with them. Only you can decide.

PVC Solo PatchesSolo didgeridont - 21 didgeridoo-like drones c0 to b2. Solo ooo - This is a strange one. Have fun with it. 4x rr notes rooted c1 (from c-2 to f2) and g2 single notes rooted at a2, b2 and c3 (extended to c8)

PVC MegaHornSoft 01 - root f1, extended from d-1 to d6 modwheel layer control (10 layers). Soft 02 - root e1, extended from c-1 to c3 modwheel layer control (10 layers). Soft 03 - spaced in 5 note intervals, extended from c-2 to c8. Soft 04 - spaced in 6 note intervals, extended from c-2 to c8.

PVC Vocal Effects 71 samples, all with modwheel and pitchwheel phrase sculpting. This is the same phrase sculpting system we use in the Forgotten Voices: Francesca vocal library, to allow you to choose where in the phrase you want the sample to start (using the modwheel).A modwheel (CC1) value of 0 starts the sample at it's beginning, while a value of 127 plays back near the end of the phrase. When the pitch wheel is centered, the phrase plays back at normal speed. Rolling it all the way down plays the phrase at about -40%.All the way up plays it at about +40% of normal.Try it out and you'll quickly get used to it, allowing you to tailor each phrase to your needs.

Rainstick66 samples, single shakes and long flowing rattle effects. Recorded in a large, bright hall.

Cellphone BeatBox455 samples, 4-6 layers, 10x rr For some reason, we decided to leave ourselves a really, really, really long voicemail. Solo beatboxing, in deep multisampled detail, delivered to voicemail through a cell phone. Don't ask us why we did it. It just had to be done.

Slinky Experiment74 samples, 3 - 7 layers, 8x rr We stretched a slinky out about 20 feet in a shaft and tapped it with drumsticks. LAZERBEAMS KA- POW-POW!!! It actually makes for some suprisingly good percussion.

Soda BottleBlowing on the open top of a regular soda bottle, with varying levels of cola inside. Recorded in a large, bright hall.

Restroom Handle Bars219 samples, 6-7 velocity layers, 6xrr Various toilet stall handlebars, as required for all public restrooms by the ADA. Played with hands, which were then imediately and thouroughly washed. The 'FX' patch includes modwheel controlled filter-morphing and other special effects.

M 2 Stop-watch

16 samples, 1-3 layers, 3x rr, C-2 to D4. Close mic'd ticking and tocking, for your percussive pleasure.

ThunderdrumA small little tube with a drum head on one side and a spring attached to the middle. Rooted at c1, b2 and g2 (extended from c-1 to g3) modwheel room control (large to small).

Garbage Day153 samples, 4-12 layers, 4x rr A metal trash can and plastic recylcing crate full of bottles, played with hands, sticks and boots in a large, bright hall. Hell of a lot of fun.All three patches feature our "room-control" feature, using the modwheel to expand and contract the "size" of the room.

Unglasses216 samples, 5-7 layers, 6x rr Originally based on the glasses/chopsticks instrument, this instrument warps the sounds into soft, dark, swelling sustains.Very strange indeed.

Tuned Waterbowl 183 samples, 3-5 layers, 6x rr A large glass bowl, filled with water to varying depths and played with fingers and sticks. The 'basic' patch is just the natural un-tuned ascending range, while the main patch has been tuned and extended up and down to cover around 8 octaves. It goes well with the glass/chopstick and un-glasses instruments.

Warbly, Plinky Little Synth Kit150 samples. Bass, snares and hats mapped at c0, c1 and c2.
