    Sound Notes Dublin Berlin

Intro Super 8mm - Maybe add the soft scratch of a record player with a light sound of windand make whatever atoms is used sound far away with a slight reverberation - seeHitchcock saboteur (https: www!youtube!com watch"v#$-%&M'- y)M * as a referenceand the opening se+uence of post tenebras lu,!( https: vimeo!com ./0/110 * (this

should form the basis for any future flashback soundscapes* 2here will probably be musicunderlaying the opening child se+uence! 3ind a happy middle ground between the musicand the flashback dreamy soundscape!

2rain out the window - there will be music over this se+uence also! 3ind a middle groundwith the music and some low4 non distracting train traveling sounds! 5othing to low end ofhigh end!

6rchway shot - I7d have this scene being the first with synch sound! verything up to thencan be out in atoms to mirror whats on screen! 2ry and loose the motor bike sound in thebackground! Might need to use another take for sound! 9an you push their dialoguefurther into the background and dampen their footsteps as they approach the camera!2hey sound very clompy!

Hostel door - 9an you thin out the dialogue here! It sound very bassy! 6lso because all thelads are all facing away from the camera this might be an opportunity to use other funnylines from the lads from other takes to weave into the shot and create more banter and alads on tour element at the start of the film! (watch out for other opportunities to do this!e can build them up and then pair them back again if it7s too much* 2his banter cancontinue into the foyer scene! 9an you also add in the bu;;er on the hostel door and theowner says hello ri,pack hostel! 2hese sound bites should there somewhere!

Hostel reception - 9an you nullify the bu;; and the hum in this scene! I think it7s comingfrom the fridge! 2here are a few gaps in the sound in this scene and there are a few otherunwanted sounds dotted in there! Maybe find a background atoms sound that could suitthis scene and lay it over the full scene! 2he sound of other tourists in another room ormusic coming form a radio in the room somewhere or from the computer4 low germanradio perhaps" 2he lads kind of mumble amongst each other before the owner asks themublic orks= line when singing!

?is@n7s (lead actor* line distorts on the steps up to the room! It might be worth trying to

hollow out the sound in this scene! Make it sound more hallway echoey! 2he s+ueaks ofthe door as they enter the room are a little distracting too! $ou could try and includeanother lads on tour funny line from Ian here as he is off camera!

In the hostel room - 3ind a low level for the traffic outside the window and let it play outover the whole scene! Maybe it could lessen slightly as ?is@n walks away from the window!9an you cut out any of the high end noise in this scene! 9an you let the sound from theroom slowly fade out into the dreamscape sound (see above* for the flashback with the oldman in the bar!

3lashback old man - can you thin out the old man slightly! Aet the room sounds slowly fade

back in and reach normal level at the moment when ?is@n pulls out the money! 2here7s agap in the sound where one of the lads says goes down easy! Maybe try and plug this gapwith the lads off screen laughing amongst themselves! Maybe have the lads laughing at

?is@n at the end of the scene too and letting it bleed into the following outdoors shot"

'and walking to gig - 5eed some general atoms! Some far away bass sounds from a clubor some techno or something! Maybe some more people having fun sounds and a faraway train traveling shot! Maybe cut out the is it open line before they enter the big backdoor to the bar!

'ar scene - 2his scene works +uite well! It7s important that the sound of the lads fades outas ?is@n looks over at Sabine for the first time! 2he two music tracks need to fade into oneanother to show the passing of time over the fish tank shot! 5eed a more convincing crowdatoms track over the line to the bathroom scene! Maybe a song with more backgroundbasement bass might work better over this scene a touch louder so the couple have toraise their voices to speak with one another for the first time!

st BIB - 5eed to synch the song to the performance as good as possible! 9an you add alive basement gig feel to the track too! 9an you alter the vocal on ?is@n! e only have themastered track of the song and the %nd singer is the real singer in the band! 9an you alterthe vocals over the shots where ?is@n is singing! Maybe add some bass to his voice so itcan be differentiated from Coy (the %nd singer*! 9an you put the song more in the mouthsof each singer too please! 2his scene also need a better crowd sound! $ou can let the gigsounds bleed into the morning sounds of the following scene!

Debab stall - 9an you dampen down the background sounds here! It7s a hung overmorning! Mute the background to represent this! 2here seems to be a weird echo in thisscene for some reason in the dialogue! 9heck tracks synch! 6s ?is@n walks away can youlet the sound drift away with him and get further away with him leading up to the ne,tflashback se+uence on the bridge!

alking away from bridge (after flashback* - Aet sound of tram smoothen the cut betweenthis scene and the ne,t cut away! 'ring it in over previous shot4 the bridge walking shot!

%nd gig - needs more background crowd noise and sounds of other gigs going onelsewhere - from the beginning of the se+uence to the end! 9an you find a happy middleground between the live recorded track and the track from the 9E! If they don7t synch uptoo well don7t worry about it! 6dd more life to crowd and to ?is@n in the crowd4 shufflingthrough them4 drinking4 muttering! Aet the music fade out slowly and bleed into thefollowing outdoor smoking scene!

Smoking scene - need more city noises here! 6lso some other gig=s continuing in thebackground! 6lso maybe some traffic and people sounds in the distance! Aet the soundsfrom each of the subse+uent cut away se+uence overlay each other to smoothen the cutsbetween each one!

2wo lovers on the train platform - 2his scene works well with the relative silence in thebackground! It might be a smidge bare! Might need some more train station atoms here!>ush it into the background! 2he passing train is a bit loud!

'eer garden - 2his scene is a bit flat! 9an you try and build up the background atoms a bit4the people and the bar!

2hree walking towards camera outside beer garden -

Eerelict building - 3or the derelict building se+uence! I would like to have a few weird andambivalent sounds dotted in the background of the soundscape! 6lmost eraser head like!Id like this se+uence to be weird and claustrophobic! I=d also like the industrial sounds tobuild to a crescendo when he is on the roof and then stop completely as he has his headin his hands! 6nd then let the silence play out over the following cut always! See the filmelephant7s cafeteria scene for a reference!

'ench scene - 2his scene sounds a bit hollow too! Might be worth putting in some soundsof the nearby park or of Sunday afternoon activity!
