"Sound Decisions” (Ball & Blachman, 1988) is a strategy that will help your child hear certain beginning, middle, and ending sounds in different words. How can I use “Sound Decisions” with my child? By using “Sound Decisions,” your child can decide which of several words or pictures contain a given sound. Pictures are attached or you can use your own selection. For example, give your child a series of pictures (dog, sun, flower) and ask him which one begins with the “ssss” sound. You can also give your child a series of words (snake, snail, house) and ask him which one has a beginning sound that is not the same. The sound may be at the beginning, middle, or end of a word.
