DESCRIPTION

This text explores sound arts relationship to (experimental) music and fine art, by considering its practices, both historical and contemporary. First, a brief history of its origins in both fields is given with a view to providing context. Secondly, the difficulty of its definition is discussed and a broad definition is proposed in light of the aforementioned historical context. Thirdly, the examination of a number of cases between sound arts advent and the present forms part of an argument for the thesis that sound art is a continuous spectrum between, and formed by the intersection of, practices in music and fine art.
