Cisco Mimics 'Old Spice' Commercials - Funny? Or Not?
In marketing, comedy can be a hit-or-miss thing. Back in July of 2010, Cisco published a blog post
and video series t it led "Get to know Ted From Accounting" in which they mimic the 'Old Spice'
commercials using Ted with a clip on t ie. In t he int roductory video, Director of St rategic
Communications Doug Webster makes it plain that t he market ing team was so enamored of the
original campaign that t hey figured they'd t ry t he same method. At fi rst he seems in earnest , but
when he says "upsell to the key deoderant and body spray demographic," he is let t ing you know he's
having fun.
There are 18 videos in the playl ist on YouTube if you are curious. For us, they were worth a chuckle
or t wo. But are they eff ective marketi ng? Most importantly, are t hey funny? We'd like your opinion.
Take a moment and let us know what you think and we'll share the result s wit h you next month.
Funny? Yes or No? Your answers will be collected anonymously.
Avaya's "12 Communications Trends for 2012"
Everyone likes predict ions. Around this t ime every year f or t he past two years, Avaya has released a
white paper on communication t rend predicti ons and this last week, t hey released the latest
collection for 2012. There's a lot to digest and some great information to go through. But the main
focus is on the changes in social media, social interact ions, messaging convergence across the
board, and seamless control. In a podcast int erview publ ished on TelecomReseller. com, Avaya's VP
of Customer Services Ajay Kapoor discusses the report and talks about the success of t heir previous
predictions.

90%Of Internet Traff ic Will Soon Be Video
There was a time in the young days of the Internet - - not so very l ong ago- - when t he informati on
being exchanged back and for th was almost ent irely t ext. Emails and instant messages were t he
standard. Remember ICQ? File t ransfers came fir st , but browsers allowing you to view mult imedia
immediately came soon thereafter. The technology has grown to t he point t hat we are now i n t he
age where video is the main chunk of all Internet tr affic. Back in July, we shared an infographic
about the predicted quadrupling of all global network tr affic by 2012. It broke down t he predicti ons
by segment , wit h video being the fastest growing and VoIP apps also close behind.
This post on Sit eTrail. com goes even further to predict that 90%of Internet Traffi c Will Soon BeVideo. It's unclear t o us if t hey are icl uding sharable videos sit es like YouTube under the same
umbrella as live video conferencing t raff ic. But eit her way, t he clear t rends are for growth. Here is
one quote:
YouTube's head of global par tnerships, Robert Kyncl, for instance not only agrees
with the 90%predicti on, he feels that much of what takes place wit h video will be
internet -based. In ot her words, t he TV will give way gradually to the web as the
place of choice for all video viewing. According t o Kyncl, "75 percent of all channels
will be born on the Internet."
There has long been a prediction that the computer and the t elevision would someday converge,
but t here was no clear i dea of what it would l ook like. It appears that t he result will be a
computer! It's an exciting time.
