PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hello Soroptimist members and friends!
Our February Business meeting was incredible! We induct-
ed five (5) new members: Sylvia Martini, Kristina Perkins,
Lynne West, Carol Kehoe and Linda Boyd.
Congratulations and welcome to our club. We look forward
to your participation on various committees as we continue
to serve women and girls in the Camarillo community.
The ―Women in the Military‖ packing party held at Susie
Hafer’s home was overflowing with helpers. We filled
many boxes using the Saint Patrick’s Day theme. This next
month’s theme will be Spring Fling, so be sure to check with Susie to see what is need-
ed!
Ann Donley attended the Strawberry Festival lottery and our name was drawn to ―man‖
two Coca Cola booths. Mark your calendars for May 21st and 22nd. What’s cool about
these booths is we are not required to be certified with the Alcohol Board and the City of
Oxnard. All members, friends and Soroptimisters will be able to serve the drinks.
SI Camarillo’s thirty-first birthday celebration at Aloha Steak House was lots of fun.
Sharing dinner, new and old stories and getting to know our new friends and members.
At this month’s Business meeting, committee signup sheets will be passed around as we
will be forming Service, Program, Fundraiser, Membership and Public Awareness com-
mittees for the remainder of this year and get a kick start for the 2011-2012 year. Please
take a moment and think about where your interests lie and be sure to sign on the dotted
line.
The Nominating committee is working on the formation of the 2011—2012 Board of
Directors. This is a great way for our new members to get inside knowledge on the work-
ings of Soroptimist. Please let Barbara Crowley know if you are interested. A brunch for
the new Board of Directors is scheduled on June 26, 2011 at Sterling Hills.
Our AWARDS PROGRAM is scheduled for Tuesday March 22nd at 7:30 am. This is
the program we all work so hard for during the year. Please come and meet this year’s
winners of the Woman’s Opportunity and Violet Richardson Awardees!!
We received the Camino Real Regions official Call to Spring Conference—please see
page 3 for additional information.
Looking forward to seeing you are our next Business meeting. In the meantime, wonder-
ful wishes and joyful times to all.
President Barbara

As the new year begins, we reaffirm our commitment to improving the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. The new year also provides an opportunity to reflect on last year’s accomplishments. In a world still reeling from global economic collapse, Soroptimist has successfully maintained a steady keel as we continued to provide support and services for women and girls in need. The 2009-2010 Program Impact Report describes the positive effect Soroptimist programs have had on the lives of women and girls throughout the federation. As Soroptimist clubs participate in federation programs, the collective impact is astonishing. Consider the following: More than $2 million was distributed through federation programs. · The lives of more than 10,000 women and girls were improved.
Please use the 2009-2010 Program Impact Report to:
Feel good about the organization you support and belong to. Congratulate your club on its fantastic work.
Raise awareness in your community about the international impact of our organization. Thank club supporters and encourage even more engagement.
Congratulations on all your efforts to improve the lives of women and girls. Because of you, women and girls throughout the world are living their dreams. Sincerely, SIA Headquarters
*SERVICE COMMITTEE Submitted by: Susie Hafer
We will have a Service Committee meeting on
March 15th, 7:30 AM at Susie Hafer's home, 1359
Sweetwater Avenue.
This is where we plan the projects we want to im-
plement or explore. So if you have any service pro-
jects near and dear to your heart please bring your
ideas to the meeting. If you can't make it send
suggestions to [email protected] and she will
share with the group.
STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL Great news! We got a booth at
the
Strawberry Festival!
This time however we will not
be serving alcohol but Coca Co-
la in two (2) booths. We will
make the same dollars as the
strawberry margarita booth, BUT without the hassle
of checking IDs, etc… (no RBS training this year)
The two booths will need to be staffed and will re-
quire at least two people to cover each shift.
The Strawberry Festival is May 21st & 22nd.
More details to follow later.

FEBRUARY MILATARY PACKING PARTY BY: Anne Howington
The lady to the left is Trish. She’s not a Soroptimist – she’s a good friend of Susie
(below) and - she’s a member of the Stitches
of Love Group who make the GREAT neck coolers and neck warmers we’ve sent out –
you may have some of their gifts, and proba-
bly said Thank You every time you used it.
We start by taping the boxes into shape
And make out the labels The gal to the right is Susie Hafer – she’s the main reason we get things like this done. She is the Chair of our Service Committee, and you folks are the focus of one of our favorite projects. We are so grateful for YOUR service – we hope you know how much we appreciate you.
We’ve collected and bought “stuff”
Susie makes sure we know what’s on your “wish lists” – we know we can’t fill EVERY want and need, but we’d sure like to make your lives a little more comfortable. And, we want you to know we love you.
Some of the items are donated by friends and co-workers and some are bought by our members – things we pick up when we’re shopping and happen to see - something we know you’ve asked for or we think you might like.
Things you’ve said you need and want
And a bunch of us get together
I think we had about a dozen mem-bers and friends at this get-together. We gathered at Susie’s house Wednesday evening (9 Feb) and I think she was able to ship the boxes out on Friday.
We start filling the boxes They tell us “If it fits, it ships!” We take them at their word.
These boxes look pretty stuffed to me – time to take them to the Post Office and get them out and on their way to you!
March 2011 Letter - Inserted In The Boxes Dear Friend – I can’t even imagine what your days are like so I thought I’d tell you a little about ours. As Soroptimists we’re business women (both active and retired) – working in banking and real estate, marketing and programming, one member is a “bigwig” with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. Another has her own travel agen-cy. Some are in property management, another has an escrow company. Some of our members are former members of the military and one new member is currently in uniform. In other words, we’re in all walks of life. We learn from each other, we help each other, and we work together. Many of us are married – some are mothers – grandmothers – great grandmothers. We are aunts and sisters and daughters. And we are all committed to “Improving the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world”. Most of us live in Camarillo, CA. We’re west of Los Angeles, about half way between Malibu (to the south) and Santa Barbara (to the north). Maybe 10 miles to the ocean. The weather is usually wonderful – sometimes chilly and rainy – sometimes too hot – but mostly just right. Many of us moved here from other parts of the coun-try. We come from Illinois and Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas, some from other states in the mid-west, some from the south, and even a couple from Germany. So, we’re a pretty mixed bag, probably a lot like you (although we may be just a little older.;).
I hope you’ll drop us a line sometime – let us know how you are. And, if you ever get to “our half of the world” I hope you’ll let us know and let us invite you to a breakfast or dinner or some kind of get-together. You can email to [email protected] or snail mail to Soroptimist of Camarillo, PO Box 3081, Camarillo, CA 93011.
We think of you often – we thank you every day – and we wish you a long and happy future!
