March 23, 2013 - March 29, 2013, The Afro-American C1 The Marriott Wardman Park Hotel’s ballroom was nearly overflowing March 13 as the Greater Washington Urban League’s Annual Whitney M. Young, Jr. Memorial Gala was the occasion for a look at 75 years of service in the D.C. area. Urban League honorees included some of the city’s leading local journalists and broadcasters. Enoch Pratt Free Library Director Dr. Carla D. Hayden, Dr. Sheila Richardson and Albertha Sinkler were recognized by the Morgan State University community recently as the Morgan State University Women (MSUW) celebrated Black History Month in the University Student Center. Dr. Hayden was the featured speaker for the event at which the three women were recognized for their achievements and accomplishments. The MSUW group is preparing for their annual tea April 7.

The Annapolis chapter of the Links turned 50 recently and celebrated with a gala dinner dance at the Hilton Baltimore BWI to celebrate how they have grown from a group of 12 African American professional women who shared the vision of giving back to their community through educational programs, service projects and cultural celebrations into a group with activities that have include a Community Health

and Wellness Forum, a mentorship program for young African American male teenagers, and an annual scholarship contest for students in the Anne Arundel County Public School who are planning to attend college.
