Bring attention to government proposed legislation

Talk about: SOPA PIPA ACTA CISPA

Database with information It grabbed our attention because of

the negative reaction to SOPA A lot of our information is stored on

the internet, such as name, address, email and more importantly credit card and other financial or sensitive information. So we must make sure these laws would not infringe on our private information and make it available to the government and other agencies.

Goals

We as American Citizens have a right to know all the facts about a Bill, Act, etc. before they are passed to make sure we still keep our Internet rights.

The Internet is still fairly new and it is constantly changing and its users want to insure the protection of the internet because it is such a valuable resource.

How did we look at each Act or Bill Each presentation we chose one that was

most prevalent in the media and the internet at the time.

For example we did SOPA first because it was the one that was causing the most controversy.

Next we looked at the supporters and protesters of each Bill and found out why this was their view

The majority of the time it was hard to find information supporting these bills because the majority of the internet was protesting the government ideas in these acts. So we tried to make our presentations as unbiased as possible despite the vast majority of the internet protesting them.

Stop Online Piracy Act Canceled January 20, 2012 SOPA has many people against it

including Google, YouTube and many other big name sites because it could give the government power to shut down their websites.

Its supporters and those who influence it are mostly the entertainment industry and the government.

It will limit our freedom of speech but this bill was eventually terminated but it shows us who far a bill like this can go and with a few changes it may pass in a different bill like A.C.T.A.

Huge expansion of government power allowing ‘spying’ on own population

Unprecedented control of the government over the Internet, which has recently demonstrated huge opposition to bills like SOPA, PIPA, and CISPA

Lack of privacy controls (any and all information can and will be disclosed to the "authorities" should the bill pass in its current form)

No safeguards that the system this bill would create won't be used and abused by those with the authority to use the powers it grants

Due to the secrecy most non-technical people are opposed to the acts.

Some of the acts are unfavored by companies because they infringe on their ability to operate. However, there are some that are for the acts.

Individuals with technical knowledge oppose the acts because they find that implementing the changes they enforce would cripple the internet or otherwise prove impractical.
