From the Director’s Desk Agricultural Mechanization plays an important role in bringing self sufficiency in Agriculture sector in India. Farm Mechanization also enables conservation of inputs, reduces unit cost of production, increases productivity and removes drudgery and hazards to humans and animals. This is possible with selection and use of appropriate machines/implements and human resources development of mechanization aspects by means of imparting training to net the benefits of agricultural mechanization. This is the objective underlying setting up of a Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institute for the Southern Region of the country. The Government of India established this prestigious Institute at Garladinne in Anantapur Dist (A.P.) in the year 1983 for the promotion and strengthening of Agricultural mechanization through Training and Testing programs especially in the Southern Region. With the set objectives, the Institute has sailed through successfully for about three decades and has spread its tentacles at the grass root level. Today, the Institute with its state of art training & testing facilities, stands a pioneer in the field of agricultural mechanization. It is hoped that the e-newsletter brought out for the quarter October-December, 2014 will be useful.

The Institute is equipped with a very wide range of different makes, models and types of Tractors, Land-Shaping-Equipments, Tillage-Equipments, Harvesting & Processing Equipments, Irrigation Pumps and various Irrigation Equipments and Plant Protection Equipments etc., used in mechanized farming. The Institute has also well equipped labs for imparting ‘on the job’ training on servicing, maintenance, overhauling and repair of tractors & Stationery Engines. Special Training Courses on Auto Electrical system and Hydraulic system of the Tractor are also provided.

Modified Paddy Cultivation (SRI Method)

Production : 2100 kg

Productivity : 7000 kg /ha.

Specific Water requirement : 1452 liter/kg of grain

MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMES

1. Sprayed mono-crotophos @2 ml /liter, carbendazim @2 gm/liter to the paddy field against to leaf sucking pest i.e. black fly, white fly etc. Sprayed glyphosate @ 5 ml/liter against to the grass weeds, perennial, hardy, thorny, unwanted, undesired plant growth in and around the B-sapota, mango, mosambi orchards etc. Sprayed Nagata @ 2 ml/liter against to the leaf sucking insect pest like thrips, aphids, mealy bugs etc to the orchards of mosambi and acid lime.

2. Tillage work had completed in the coconut, mosambi Orchards, D-group, E-group sapota Orchards and Red gram field by using Cultivator and Disc harrow to make Orchards and field weed free. This minimizes the pest infestation and increases the availability of soil moisture to the main crop plants.

3. Coconut dry leafs chopped by using shredder machine. This Chopped material has been used as organic matter in the ring basins of D-group Sapota Orchard.

4. The Jowar standing Crop has been auctioned on dated: 8.10.14, an amount of Rs.31280 has been deposited in govt. account.

5. Paddy has been harvested, and on dated: 15.12.14, Institute had auctioned farm produce paddy grains of 2100 kg, paddy straw of 3000 kg. An amount of Rs.31836 and Rs.7501 has been received towards grains and straw respectively and deposited in Govt account.

6. Root out, up-rooted the thorny, hardy, unwanted large weed plants grown all along the farm road side, farm area.

7. Groundnut material (kernels, broken pods etc ) grade wise has been disposed for an amount of Rs.3006

New Developments

1. Black gram has been sown in an area of 1.6 hectare. Variety is TAU-9. Seed rate: 17 kg /acre Sprinkler irrigation has been arranged to irrigate the field sown on dated: 2.12.14, 5.12.14, 11.12.14 and 12.12.14. Seed germination has been started.

2. Lawn has been laid in front of the library and administration buildings in order to increase the beauty of the garden in front of office area.

Rain fall received during the first quarter (July-September,2014) = 47mm.
