DESCRIPTION

Minnesota's LARGEST Family Friendly Christian Music Festival! Sonshine Festival is one of Minnesota’s largest family camping and music festivals. The festival takes place annually, usually in the second week of July, in Willmar, MN. Sonshine Festival offers four days of fun, fellowship, ministry and many of the best bands in Christian music – with great camping facilities and youth group activities. It is the perfect choice for a four day family camping get away! There are a number of different stages, including a main stage, with large jumbotrons and an impressive sound system and light show. A metalcore stage, a large outdoor side stage as well as a “showmobile” stage which gives new bands the opportunity to perform live for the Sonshine crowd. There is a dedicated Kids’ activity center, with music and other entertainment – including an inflatable park. There are also ministry and prayer booths, merchandise sales from artists, concession stands and a skateboard park.

comes out for a great time. I like to tell people that they don’t re-ally know someone until they’ve gone to Sonshine with them. I came to this realization this year when there was a giant storm and everyone was covered in mud and soaking wet. I told ev-eryone, “People at Sonshine see the real you. The one soaking wet with no make up, hair tossed by the wind all day, and covered in mud.”.

In 2010, I joined the Sonshine Street Team. I wanted to get as many people as possible out to Sonshine so that they could see how amazing it is. Lives are changed every year at Sonshine and I wanted to help make that happen. I would go to shows

around the cities and talk with kids and adults about the best four days of the year. I would pass out flyers, put up posters, and talk to youth leaders about bringing their kids to the festival. Everyone that I talked to that had been to Sonshine in the past would get extremely excited and tell me they already had their tickets and couldn’t wait. At most shows a line would form behind me of people waiting to get a fly-er. On the street team I get to tell people about the festival, what to expect and tell them about how it helped to make me the person I am today.

Between the music, the friends, the fellowship and much more, Sonshine is something that peo-

ple need to experience. People might think it’s intimidating walking into such a large festival but really at heart it’s just a bunch of “Jesus Freaks” having a good time. It’s easy to make friends and figure things out. There’s something for everyone and it’s honestly the best festival I’ve ever been to. I can’t wait for Sonshine 2012.

JESS SCHULZSonshine Street Teamer

I first attended Sonshine Festival in the summer of 2007. I was fourteen years old and had no

idea what to expect. Since then I have not missed a single summer. Sonshine has completely changed my life and I don’t know what I would be doing if I had never gone. Every year I look forward to four days full of music and fellow-ship with other believers. They’re consistently the best four days of my year and I would be crushed to have to miss one year of it. To me, Sonshine is one big family. Everyone is in-credibly kind to each other and we are all there for the same reason. We are there to worship God and thank him for the sacrifice he made. We’re all from different backgrounds but that same goal remains constant. When I first started going to Sonshine, my best friend and I would run from stage to stage

trying to soak in as much music as we could. We would go meet artists and then once the sun went down and the last band played we’d go back to our camper and finally eat a meal. In the fall and spring we’d practice our tarp running in the field behind my house so that the next sum-mer we would be even quicker and get better

spots. As a 16 year old I hated waking up early in the morning but Sonshine was worth it. We would sit out in the rain and cold some days just to go run our tarps. Waking up early to run tarps is one of my favorite parts of Sonshine

and I think everyone needs to give it a try at some point. The thing I love most about Sonshine is getting to spend time with friends. There are some friends of mine that I never really get to see. They either live too far away, or are on tour fre-quently. When Sonshine rolls around everyone

What do you do when a Youth Leader comes to your house and invites you to a 3 day Christian Music Festival? If you’re me, you say “NO thanks,” and then your mom sends you!!

I didn’t want to go to church and I definitely didn’t want to hang out with church kids for 3 long days and 2 eight hour drives in a van.

I was thirteen years old, between my eighth grade and freshmen year. I was shy, awkward, and had a really rough home life. I thought a Christian festival was a place full of perfect people, choirs and hymns, BUT I was totally WRONG in everyway.

The first band had long hair, electric guitars and knew how to rock n’ roll. I was shocked! The music was awesome, the light show incredible and the crowds were huge, raising their hands, praising God! The spirit of the Lord was so thick, that I could cut it with a knife.

It wasn’t just music and fun, but there were speakers, like the speaker who challenged us to listen to Christian mu-

sic for 30 days and see how it impacted our life. I took the challenge, and have never been the same.

I also remember sitting on a hill, over-looking 25,000 people, feeling a desire to one day work behind the scenes to promote events like this, events that God could use to change a person’s trou-bled life like mine.

Through high school, I was on fire for God, inviting everyone to church or the Christian club at school. If you declined my invites then I’d use my money that I saved from working nights and week-ends at McDonalds to buy you a ticket to the local Christian concert. I knew how much God used music to speak to me, and I prayed He would do the same for my friends.

I guess you can say I was a Christian Concert Promoter through high school and when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, “I’d tell the story of this 3 day music festival and how I knew when I was 13 years old, that I wanted to promote Christian events for the rest of my life.”

Over the next 15 years, God opened many doors. I went onto do sales, ac-counting, marketing, management, ticketing, venue work, and then finally became an official full-time Christian Concert promoter for a huge Christian radio station in Houston, TX. I was there 6 years, fulfilling the dream God put in my heart at my first festival, but little did I know that God was prepar-ing me to serve past, present and future Sonshiners as one of your Sonshine Staff.

I encourage you to invite as many friends and family as possible to Sonshine 2012. Sonshine is a place that God uses to change peoples lives!! I know, because a festival just like it changed mine.

Please pray and ask God to reveal to you, the people you are supposed to invite or buy tickets for this year. A youth leader bought a ticket for me and God has used him to impact thou-sands of people’s lives through mine.

OH SLEEPER Playing the HM Stagewww.weareohsleeper.comOH, SLEEPER stands armed and ready for domi-nation. Children of Fire, their third album for Solid State Records, is a career-defining mission statement further establishing them in the heavy music pantheon.

From the opening salvo of “Endseekers” to the melodic bombast of “Hush Yael” through to the album’s epic conclusion, which arrives in the form of the blistering title track, Children of Fire paints a horrific picture of a world gone mad which can only be redeemed through the hope of pure truth. Upping the stakes of the conceptual storyline woven throughout their last album, Son of the Morning, the Texas based band has metic-ulously crafted a dozen songs that explore grand themes while anchored in basic human struggle.

Longstanding founding members Micah Kinard (vocals), James Erwin (guitar) and Shane Blay (guitar / vocals) returned to longtime collabo-rator and producer Andreas Magnusson (Black Dahlia Murder, Haste The Day) with a devastat-ing new rhythm section in tow, which includes powerhouse young drummer Zac Mayfield. Together they assembled what now stands as a singular, cohesive, fluid body of work with an aggressive pulse that pushes extreme music for-

ward. Children of Fire will most assuredly re-invigorate the genre in many ways.

Kinard and Blay (ex-Between The Buried & Me) offer the most potent scream / sing com-binations put to record since the most classic releases from Thrice, Glassjaw and Underoath. Expertly executed musicianship in the drums, guitar and bass department are all over the al-bum. Children of Fire offers hope through an ex-ploration of apocalyptic themes and the ongoing struggle of good vs. evil.

Oh, Sleeper has built a dedicated international fanbase on tours with Bring Me The Horizon, Underoath, Every Time I Die, Demon Hunter, Silverstein, Finch and more. Their “broken pen-tagram” symbol has become synonymous with breaking from societal norms, uplifting spirits and merging melody with might.

The Armored March EP announced the arrival of Oh, Sleeper upon the heavy music scene with raw power. Their debut full-lenght album, When I Am God, sold over 30,000 copies based on the strength of its songs, the group’s live show and the music video for “Vices Like Vipers,” which remains a staple of the group’s setlist.

The broken pentagram symbol made its first ap-pearance on the bold cover for Son of the Morn-ing. The graphic quite literally subverts and “evil” symbol by breaking off the top points, in direct reference to the line “I’ll cut off your horns!” which Kinard screams while posturing as the voice of God against the devil. Many fans have connected with the purpose associated with this new symbol and have tattooed it upon their bod-ies.

Children of Fire is exactly the album Oh, Sleeper fans have expected and the type of record that will widen the band’s audience even further. There’s no compromise in sound or vision, but rather, refinement of intent.

Our first time attending Sonshine was summer of ‘98 or ‘99. Seth and I camped with people we barely new the

whole weekend WE SAW DC Talk. BAM! I got the poster, Seth got the shirt, oh Yes! That first year we also saw The Dingees, Project 86, and Switchfoot when they played on a smaller stage, with a much smaller crowd than now.

Soon after we started Children 18:3 and have had the privilege of playing Sonshine every year, from what started on a generator stage in a ditch, to Sonshine’s Main Stage. Now we look forward to Sonshine every year! Thank you Sonshine Fest for being the highlight of the summer for so many people, for so many years!!David - Children 18:3

Sonshine festival is like com-

ing home.We play all kinds of festivals all over the country and Son-shine is always the one I look forward to the most. Its like history for our band, we’ve played there almost every year since the beginning of Ch183.Not only is it usually our biggest (and for me) the funnest show of the year, but its cool because we get to stay and hangout all week-end and spend time with friends and fans. Its in the perfect location and consistently has a great lineup for all styles of music lovers, definitely a winner. We’ll see you at Sonshine festival 2012!Seth - children 18:3

Looking for that secret recipe for some savory rock?

Of course you are. It goes like this: Mix a handful of thunderous beats and a dash of dirty Soul swagger in a bucket filled with Southern-fried, greasy guitar. Then roast ingredients all day in the sweltering Georgia heat, pepper with good-time lyrics, and enjoy the spicy southern rock jambalaya of FAMILY FORCE 5. Since 2005, the genre-obliterating Atlanta quintet has been setting audiences’ feet alight with their incendiary dance-rock anthems, turning that dance floor into hot coals, refusing to let fans keep their kicks still.

Part party-bangers, part grimy rockers, FAMILY FORCE 5’s earthquaking beats and face-melting synths have earned them a devout following culled from their seemingly ceaseless touring and chart-topping albums, the group’s previous album Dance or Die debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #30 and at #8 on the Modern Rock charts with 13,000 copies sold in the first week.

“Within the five guys in the band, there’s such a wide range of life experiences,” says Sames-tate guitarist Darren Harms. “We’ve all grown up in such dif-ferent environments; it’s crazy to see how vast a life space five guys can cover.”

Yet, from a musical stand-point, the five guys that make up Samestate (Darren Harms, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Dalton Diehl, bassist Ryan Lytle, guitarist/keyboardist Raymond Wyatt and drummer Blake Leoni) certainly make it work. The sonics found on the band’s Sparrow Records debut The Alignment mesh seamlessly, taking each member’s disparate musical influences – be it a whole bunch of rock and pop, a touch of Americana, a smidge of country – and merging them into a sound that’s infectious and approachable. The bombast of the nominal

title track “Realign” and follow-up “Sons and Daughters” coun-teracts, but doesn’t fight with the emotional, Avett Brothers-esque “Upside Down,” the jangly romp of “Love Re-members You” or the quiet, strings-driven ode “Sym-phonies.”

And then there’s “Hurricane,” The Alignment’s first single, with a simple message of hope. The song reminds us that if we do everything or even if we do nothing, God’s love will always find a way back to us. It’s a so-phistication of thought, synco-pation and lyric coming togeth-er all at once that wedges that message in our heads, and gives us a glimpse that the members

of Samestate have a maturity well beyond their years.

The members of Samestate came together initially at Mid

America Nazarene University in Olathe, KS, a small town 25 miles outside Kansas City. Dalton called Blake and Darren to sit in on some shows he was doing in 2008, soon bringing in Ryan on bass to

fill out the low end, and adding Ray to complete what would become the band’s emerging sound.

“We met in junior high, we kind of grouped together and it’s been really exciting, especially over the past three years, to see such exponential growth in his confidence and his outlook on life,” Blake continues. “Just having a community that so

many kids in his similar situa-tion don’t have. As for me, my parents divorced when I was in third grade, and Dad moved away when I was in sixth grade, so I kind of turned to music as an escape. It was something I was good at and could find identity in, so I really consider it a gift from the Lord that He’s letting me continue to do it at this level.

And I think that’s something we want our fans to realize as well, that God will find you right where you are, and make great things happen out of what you might think are your worst moments.”

What could be better than the best in the Christian music world - in one place - for three days? 20,000 people you will worship with each day or a personal encounter

with the One we worship.

It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God.

Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth.

That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being

itself—Spirit.

Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.

John 4:24 (MSG)
