ENMAN NO TOMO Sachi Shimizu/Nancy Yoshioka A beautiful summer day greeted the 75 members and friends at August’s meeting. The tables were decorated with gingham bags filled with colorful coleus plants and whimsical “whirly” sticks which were crafted by Nancy Davlin and Nancy Yoshioka. Sachi Shimizu led the exercise session featuring slow movements and it was so much fun and laughs learning the Chicken Dance and Hokey Pokey, done to music! Thanks so much, Sachi! Today’s program was a presentation by Jan Gristh, Nurse Practitioner at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, who spoke on Preventing Trauma Injuries for Seniors. She cited falls as one of the major causes of such injuries and cautioned us to look for ways to prevent them in our homes, such as better lighting, especially at nighttime, and getting rid of scatter rugs and clutter. She warned that we should not get on ladders, men especially! Diane Ono, who introduced Jan, gave out handouts listing free classes from Santa Rosa Junior College on Fitness available in their Older Adults Program and available throughout Sonoma County. Our lunch was delicious and plentiful; featuring chow mein, pakkai, sushi, chirashi, nishime and other dishes contributed by members and friends. How fortunate we are to have great cooks among us! Thank you to the Martin Shimizu Family for donating a beautifully decorated (and delicious) cake for his birthday. Special good wishes to Martin! Bingo was called by Darryl Yagi; the special bingo was a blackout game with a monetary prize. That special prize is certainly a crowd pleaser! Thanks to Toshie Morita for the beautiful planter filled with succulents, Yukino Kameoka for assorted vegetables, Jim Price for the Gravenstein apples and Nancy Davlin and Nancy Yoshioka’s table decorations for our raffle. Thanks to the Moriki Family for their monetary donation in appreciation to ENT. ENT offers their condolences to the Moriki Family for Terumi’s passing, to the Matsuda Family for Tamie’s passing and to the Paulsen Family for Kimie’s passing. We will certainly miss them. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun on the first Saturday of each month except January and July. NEW MEMBERS NEEDED JACL is membership driven.

Many programs are dependant on dues that chapters receive from

their membership base. Membership is declining at a rapid rate due to attrition and economy.

Please make every effort to highlight JACL’s accomplishments and the need for a strong civil and

human rights organization with a 75 year history of amazing leadership in Washington, DC and in our U.S.,

Hawaii and Japan chapters. If we lose JACL programming,

it may take years to reestablish the organization to current levels. We need help attracting new members and keeping our stalwart members. REMINDER- Send your renewal

form and payment to JACL Office 515 Petaluma Ave.
