Prior Art; An inventor, Dr. Nikola Tesla claimed a 97% efficiency in fluid mass transport through his turbine using nothing more than adhesion and viscosity of the fluid ( air or liquid ). U.S. Patent 1,061.206, ca; 1913 shows the embodiments of his invention and the principle of operation. Used as a pump, the Tesla turbine is the simplest device in existence. A plurality of simple spinning discs that are in contact with the gas, couples frictionally with the flue gas and transfers momentum to the gas as moves through the pump. Configured as a centrifugal pump, the technology will expel scrubbed flue gas while sequestering Hg and H₂SO The inlet manifolds (10) feeds gas to the central axis of the rotating disc stack, (6). The gas is thrown radially outwards from the rotation axis by centrifugal force, and new raw gas moves in to take its place. The centrifuged gas is pressurized as it accumulates on wall surface and exits via the outlet pipe (11) leaving the turbine housing outlet under positive pressure.. Hypothesis; If liquid elemental mercury Hg is introduced as an aerosol into the inlet (10), it will be accelerated and impacted with significant force on the interior walls because of it’s mass and inertia. Tesla’s patent drawings, Fig.1 and Fig.2, are somewhat rudimentary of the the actual machinery needed to bring the physics to bear on an introduced aerosol, they do however convey the basic physics. The turbine will scrub mercury and sulphuric acid out of natural gas and coal combustion flue gases without the need for any absorbant chemicals. The process will remove 90% or more of these two pollutants in a gas stream continuously without any filters or chemicals. Summarily, the primary effluents sequestered and expelled from the pump are elemental mercury [Hg] , water [ H₂O ] and dilute sulphuric acid. [ H₂SO₄ ] by centrifugal force and gravity. Both sulphuric acid and mercury have value and can be sold as product instead of being disposed of as hazardous waste.

Physics; The outer surfaces of a spinning disc in a fluid are modeled here in Comsol™ multiphysics to show the pressure gradient at a containment wall surface a small distance away when the said spinning surfaces are at a radial velocity relative to the stationary containment wall. The boundary conditions of a spinning disc in a fluid. Navier Stokes equation; ∇·u = 0 The pressure is gradient colored indicating the higher pressure region on the stationary surface of a cylindrical container.

The rotor disc component and the stack assembly is the only moving part in this machinery which spins at up to 8,000 RPM. They are CNC machined from mild steel alloy and are chrome plated for endurance in service. The radially spaced holes increase the friction of the disc and subsequently the holding adhesion of the gas and Hg to the disc surfaces as it spins.

The gas enters both ends of the stack at a reduced pressure of <1 bar generated by the rotating disc stack. This pressure difference is RPM dependent.
It then flows through the centre apertures of the spinning rotor discs where it is diffused and accelerated radially outwards by the disc friction and gas viscosity with significant velocity and momentum via the shear forces between the two.

The process and method is scalable using a plurality of scrubber modules configured to accommodate any required throughput of gas, and will scrub mercury out of natural gas or combustion flue gas without the use of sorbents of any kind in a real time continuous process.
