How You Can Help At Home!

Talk about moving on from Reception to Year 1. Remind them that this is just another small adventure. There will still be teacher time in Year 1 through English, Maths, Science, P.E, Topic and most importantly to them I.D! Continue to read both with and to your child. Whilst reading see if they can recall the main characters, the story setting and what happens at the beginning, middle and end.

When writing independently, encourage them to use all the sounds they can hear, correct punctuation and adjectives (describing words) to make the writing more interesting.

Continue to look for shapes in the environment both 2D and 3D. Can we name the shapes we find?

Record and then solve their own addition and subtraction number sentences.

Pick up small objects with tweezers, play with playdough, thread pasta and beads to help with fine motor control.

Use tweezers to pick up small objects. Manipulate playdough. Thread pasta and beads onto string to support their fine motor control development.
