Assessing Primary Computing Exemplification: Multimedia Year 2

Description of Activity:

As part of a project on houses we looked at the story of the Three Little Pigs in literacy. The children then designed and created their own houses in a DT project. Throughout building their houses the children took photographs of each other. When the houses were finished the children took more photographs.

The children created a house advert leaflet for their house following a visit from an estate agent. The children created their own advert using different tools in Word. They used typing and organisation skills. Children saved and opened their documents while they completed their work. They will now use Green Screen to role play an advert for their home.

During a night time topic the children created their own nocturnal animal PowerPoints. They used the Internet and books to help them research their facts. They used clip art to brighten up their PowerPoints.

Children saved and opened their files while they worked on their presentations over a number of days.

Age expected achievement (including statements indicating mastery)The learner recognised photographs as one type of multimedia. They selected appropriate photographs to add to documents for different purposes.

They were able to organise their ideas in different ways, saving and retrieving their work as part of the process.

Keyboard skills were used effectively to add and delete text as they evaluated the appearance. The space bar was used confidently to separate words and help the reader to understand the text.

For children exceeding age related expectation, consider using questions on Computational Thinker document to support them in developing mastery

End of year statements: I can use technology to organise and present my ideas in different ways. I can use the keyboard on my device to add, delete and space text for others to read. I can tell you about an online tool that will help me to share my ideas with other people. I can save and open files on the device I use.
