The roof structure incorporated steel safety balustrades with access gained to the roof via vertical ladder and roof hatch.

As part of Transport for London’s ‘Cooling the

Tube Programme’ fan replacement for the

Victoria Line, McNealy Brown have recently

completed two projects of a quite different

nature.

At Somerleyton Road, the existing fan house

had to be demolished and re-built with

existing air paths re-routed and new service

rooms built within the existing structure.

The existing fan house and main building wall

were structurally linked requiring new wind

post strengthening works to allow for full

demolition and commencement of new

building works.

The main structure consisted of three

separate tower areas for two new fans /

cowlings, with internal vertical access ladders

and removable floor plates at maintenance

lifting zones.

The external face of the

building was brick clad with

horizontal aesthetic feature

steels to the 3rd floor with

continuous rain-water louvre

system above to the

underside of the roof.

The roof was constructed of

3no segmented sections

profile roof sheets and

overlapping / co-ordinated

flashings and gutters for later

removal for fan replacement

if required.

The roof structure

incorporated steel safety

balustrades with access

gained to the roof via vertical

ladder and roof hatch.
