Some of the best hockey bars to watchthe game in (29 Photos)By: Martin Also in: Travel Nov 12, 2016
1
With the hockey season starting to get into its full swing, it’s time that you get out of your dark basement and go
find a hockey bar to celebrate every goal, and drown your sorrows if your team’s gotten off to bad start.
Here’s some of the most notable and awesome hockey bars across the world.
Drinks, then shinny fellas?
2
18 Degrees
Scottsdale, Arizona
This is the dream, a full service sports bar inside of a rink. 18 Degrees is located inside the Ice Den, which is the
training centre of the Coyotes. Here, you can grab a cold beer, devour some nachos and watch the players
practice. Inside, the ceiling is decorated with stick blades, which is definitely unique. It’s a good place to do some
pre-game drinking and some amateur scouting.
3
716 Food and Sport
Buffalo, New York
One of the newest sports bars in Buffalo, this place is built inside of the new ice arena/hotel, the HarborCenter,
which sits adjacent to the First Niagara Center, where the Sabres play. Taking their name from the local area code,
there’s a giant tv behind the bar and all the tables have an uninterrupted view. That’s 38 feet of hockey for your to
get your fill of the sport.
4
Light the Lamp Brewery
Grays lake, Illinois
This might not be the most exciting, but it’s certainly inspirational. Founded by a group of Hockey dads, they
needed a place to watch their games and wanted to try to make their own beers; hence the Light the Lamp Brewery
and pub. Making some kickass brews since 2011, they’ve named their beers after hockey, highlighting their 1980
Miracle Ale, Power Play IPA and the Sin Bin Stout, they’ve also got a devout group of Blackhawk dads that get
together in this intimate environment and share their love of the game.
5
Flames Central
Calgary, Alberta
This is literally a cathedral of hockey and booze, than just a mere sports bar. Built in an old theatre, you’ve got an
epic marquee outside and once inside, you’re surrounded by Flames gear.
6
There’s a theatrical feel to the bar, with stadium seating, as well as a dining room, with luxury boxes all around the
room, filled with signed Flames player photos. This is a mecca for hockey in Calgary, and a must visit if you want to
catch a Flames game.
7
The Flying Puck
New York, New York
This is the centre of the universe for Rangers fans. It’s a short walk from MSG, and it’s got a robust hockey-themed
shot menu.
8
And the inside of the bar is so quintessential NY, down to the mahogany bar accents and Rangers themed Tiffany-
stained glass in the ceiling.
9
Hat Tricks Sports Bar and Grill
Winnipeg, Manitoba
With over 20 HDTV’s in the bar area, and flatscreens in the booth and over the urinals, you won’t miss any second
of the game here. This is one of the top hockey bars in Canada and it’s easy to see why. Plus during a Jets game,
the wings are super cheap, so make sure you go early grab a seat, and bring plenty of napkins.
10
The Great Canadian Pub
Paris, France
Probably the last place you’d expect it, but one of world greatest hockey bars is in Paris, France. From the wooden
hockey stick door handles, to all the hockey memorabilia all over the walls, this place is chock full of everything
hockey and everything Canada. Most importantly, this bar has a habit of staying open to broadcast playoff hockey,
so given that most games don’t start until 1:00am Paris time, that’s a lot of dedication to the sport!
11
The Hockey Pub
Brasov, Romania
There’s a pub in Romania, down in a cellar that’s got enough old world charm to make you feel like it’s the original
six days, but with all the international hockey memorabilia and arched ceilings, you’ll know that you’re on sacred
hockey ground. Plus the wooden bar is fully stocked with everything you could ever want to drink, you’ll never want
to leave.
12
KHL Sports Bar
Riga, Latvia
Located beneath a Raddison in the capital city of Latvia is a sports bar dedicated to the KHL. The bar has a ‘wall of
fame’ display of some of the best stars of the KHL and each booth is surrounded by hockey netting and has it’s
own tv. The bar even has its own coaches couch lunch for casual drinks, with a chalkboard wall to run plays.
13
The rest of the bar is filled with memorabilia, but the best part is the entrance: when you walk in, you’re surrounded
by a corridor of iconic KHL Jerseys.
14
Chez Serge
Montreal, Quebec
Chez Serge is a lovely cross between a sports bar dedicated to the Habs, and the kind of bar you’d find several
bachelorette parties at on a Saturday night. On top of big screens, they also feature mechanical bull riding, pole
dancing, beer bongs and go-go dancers.
15
Yep, definitely the best hockey bar on this list.
16
The Maple Leaf Pub
Houston, Texas
When Calgarian Sean Blair moved to Houston, he wanted to find somewhere to watch the Calgary Flames in the
playoffs, but found none. So he opened his own hockey bar. Now this bar, smack dab in the middle of the Houston
Football country, is thriving, showing all the NHL games and serving Canadian beers on tap!
17
Odd Man Rush Brewing Co.
Eagle River, Alaska
What else is there to do in Alaska but watch winter sports and enjoy a cold beer? Three former hockey players
moved up to Eagle River and opened their own brewpub, with an old scoreboard from a local arena, as well as other
hockey knickknacks. It’s the place to be for a die hard sportsfan and with hockey themed beers such as the Willie
O’Ree Oatmeal Stout and Enforcer IPA, you can’t get more hockey than this.
18
The Angry Beaver
Seattle, Washington
There’s a concept, and it’s not wrong, that if you want a good hockey vibe for your bar, you have to make it
Canadian themed. That’s what owner, Tim Pipes had in mind when he opened the Angry Beaver; beer, hockey and
Canadian memorabilia. Inside, the bar’s got hockey jerseys, old-timey NHL photos and tons of family safe beavers.
There’s a also a deep selection of Canadian whiskies, poutine and beer. All the perfect accompaniments to a
hockey game!
19
RBar
Columbus, Ohio
What makes the RBar so unique is the Jumbotron that’s suspended over the bar. That’s 4 sides of hockey action.
They also have game time food/drink specials, so you need to fill all the seats between puck drop and the final
horn, to get some half priced brew and food. Sounds like my kind of joint.
20
RealSports
Toronto, Ontario
If you’re not getting drunk watching a 39 foot tv screen, you’re not doing it right! Full of perpetually disappointed
Leaf fans, this bar also offers tv’s in the booths, and one hell of a celebratory atmosphere for every game.
21
Redondo Beach Cafe
Redondo Beach, California
I can’t imagine a hockey bar where it never gets cold, but there’s something nice about being able to watch the
game, then stumble a few feet outside to the beach. This Canadian owned bar/diner shows every game in season,
but has a soft spot for the Kings. During the playoffs, they host parties around the games and you can have your fill
of hockey, sunshine, beer and poutine.
22
Rockies Sports Bar
Belfast, Ireland
Have to go all the way across the pond for this one, but it’s a hockey haven in Ireland. When there, you can cheer
on the UK Elite Hockey League’s Belfast Giants, or catch any of the other games from North America. There’s
paraphernalia all over the place, and this is a slice of home, when you’re over there. Just be mindful of being
delicate with your team support, if the Irish hockey fans are anything like the soccer fans, fists might start flying.
23
The Stanley Club at Johnny’s Ice House
Chicago, Illinois
There’s something about those bars inside the practice facilities that just get the hockey fandom going. Sure, it’s
great to see an actual game, but it’s fun to see how the pros practice. This one is located at Johnny’s Ice house,
practice facility of the Chicago Blackhawks. On top of overlooking the ice, there’s plenty of tvs, bubble hockey and
enough cold, local beer to go around.
24
Tamarack Brewing Co.
Lakeside, Montana
Tamarack Brewing Co. is a family run place, started by Stanley Cup Champ and former Calgary Flame Lanny
McDonald. He, his daughter and sons opened the brewery in 2007, and the restaurant shortly after. On top of all
the hockey nostalgia and decor, they also sponsor a Craft Brewers Cup Tournament and Brewfest, with the
proceeds going to charity.
25
The Blue Line
Kansas City, Missouri
This is prime Blues country, but once upon a time, they also supported the Kansas City Scouts before they were
sold. With tributes to both teams, this is the only hockey bar in town. With wall to wall hockey memorabilia and NHL
themed food on the menu, it’s the place to be to watch the glorious game of hockey.
26
Tom Reid’s Hockey City Pub
St. Paul, Minnesota
Owned by former Minnesota North Star Tom Reid, he’s brought his passion for the sport into a fine establishment.
Located two blocks away from where the Minnesota Wild play. The bar is the tribute to the Twin Cities’ first NHL
team, but also has some love towards the Miracle on ice team from 1980. Overall, a great place to watch the game.
27
Wayne Gretzky’s Restaurant
Toronto, Ontario
This restaurant/bar is a shrine to The Great One and can’t be left off of any list of great bars in the world for
hockey. With plenty of screens in the restaurant and bar areas, they’ve also got a rooftop patio/oasis that offers
amazing views of the city.
28
But the best part is the Gretzky memorabilia. His entire history is available for your drooling over. Then when you’re
done there, you can head down the street to the Hockey Hall of Fame for more.
