Breynius further fays, that this vege- table has been recommended as a mof} excellent re- medy to kop the bleeding at the nofe.

Mr. Ray, in his zSynopAsftrpi Britannicarum, upon the authority of the late Dr. William Sherard, fays, that this F2ngus soriarevs querrintgs harmatodes is found upon putrid oaks in Ireland, where it is called oak-leather; and that the country pEople there colledc and preferve it to drefs ulcers with. Dr. Sl^rard makes no doubt but that it may be found in England; and Mr. Ray had even fome fent him from tbe late Dr. Eales in Hertfordffiire. Dr, Richardfon, inYorkShire, found it growlng upon the a}; and Dr. Dillenius further obSerares, that in Vir- ginia it is uSed as leaier, to fpread p}aiiEers 1lpon; and that, befides its being a foft fubilance, fitting eafy upon -the afflided partX it has a healing pro- perty.

Thus much I thought proper to lay before the Foyal Society, in order that thofie members of itX who-correfpond with the French furgeons, may make fome filrther inquiry into the naeure, as welI as the preparation, if any, of this uSeful regetable.
