1) x – 5 = 212) m – ( - 8) = -11
State the property you used in each problem.
Solving Multi-step Equations
Objective
Students will be able to: demonstrate their understanding of inverse operations and distributive property by correctly solving 4 multi-step equations at a basic level of proficiency.
Vocabulary
• Identity- when an equation is true for every value of the variable
• No Solution- when there is no value for the variable that will make the equation true.
Rules for Solving Multi-Step Equations
• Clear the equation of fractions and decimals.
• Use the distributive property to remove the parentheses on each side.
• Combine like terms on each side.• Undo addition or subtraction.• Undo multiplication or division.

1.) x/5 + 2 = 8
2.) -2(b – 4) = 12b
3.) 3x + 2x + 20 – 8 = 92
4.) 6x + 15 = 125 + 4x
5.) 8b + 16 – 2b = 4b
6.) 3(k + 8) = 21

8.) -3x – 4 = -82
9.) 2x – 4 = 8
10.) 6a – 4 = 15 + 6a
11.) 2t + 4 – t = 4 + t
12.) a/8 – 5.2 = 3
Exit Slip
Solve each equation.
Put a box around your final answer
1.) 4n = 2(n +1) + 3(n – 1)
2.) -3/5(c + 20) = 54
3.) -2(a – 3) =6
4.) 3/8u = 3(u – 2)
