Dennis Friedel, is a senior Fire Prevention Officer with the City of Edmonton, Fire Rescue Services - Fire Prevention. Dennis has over 20 years experience working in the fire industry, 13 with the City of Edmonton. He conducts inspections, assists in code research, conducts lectures, and works with clients to help them understand the code and ways to comply with the code.

Allen Hess is responsible for Field Operations for The Mircom Group of Companies in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He has more than 25 years in the Life Safety Industry. Having served in many capacities including product development, service technician, troubleshooting specialist, project manager, and sales, Allen has acquired extensive practical field experience. He has access to an international pier group that provides a keen insight into global trends and best practices in the Fire Safety industry abroad. He is in his second term as the President of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association’s National Board.

Glen Kitteringham is President of Kitteringham Security Group Inc. a security and life safety consulting firm. He has over 22 years experience in the security and life safety industry and holds a Masters Post Graduate Degree in Security and Crime Risk Management, is Board certified in Security Management through his Certified Protection professional designation and is a Fellow of the Security Institute. Glen spent over 10 years tracking nuisance alarms in several milti-tennented commercial high rise buildings conducting a root cause analysis before implementing a successful reduction program.

Jonathan Mandoli of Xtralis is responsible for business development throughout the North-western United States and Western Canada. As a 25 year life safety industry professional with extensive international experience in deployment, design and sales of a wide array of detection and suppression solutions, his focus is on adding value to solutions by supporting business development; from initial project review, proposal development, budgeting, and design support, to deployment and customer service. He is a Member of NFPA, SFPE, AFAA, CFAA, IASPM, NICET, ASIS, and SIA.

Ken Maskell of Maskell Plenzik & Partners Engineering has provided forensic engineering services for over 500 files in the past 10 years, including more than 500 ‘Fire Cause & origin’ investigations. Ken has been accepted by the Alberta Provincial Courts as an expert witness, and is able to balance his 30+ years of engineering expertise with his early years as an electrician to provide a practical outlook.

Mahendra (Mike) Prasad is the Manager of International Standards for ULC Standards, based in Toronto. Mike has over 20 years national and international experience working with industry stakeholders in standardization relating to life safety and security. His responsibilities include developing analysis and strategic planning in relation to national and international standards and for standardization efforts in new and emerging technologies. He is a member on many national and international activities, such as CNC/IEC Task Force on Smart Grid Technology and Standards; ISO TC223, Societal Security; IEC TC79, Alarm & Electronic Security Systems; Vice Chair, Canadian Advisory Committee on ISO/TC21/SC3, Fire detection and alarm systems; ISO TMB Strategic Advisory Group on Security; and the NEMA UL/ULC Technical Harmonization Committee on fire alarm and life safety standards.

Tony Price has more than 27 years in the Fire Alarm and Life Safety Industry serving in many capacities, including: Projects/Service technician, Trouble Shooting Specialist, Project manager, and Sales that have spanned the three Western provinces. As Area Technical Specialist in Western Canada for Siemens Canada, his duties include providing technical assistance regarding Fire and Life Safety Systems to Siemens Employees and Customers from design to completion and beyond. He is also responsible for introducing and implementing new and upcoming technologies or systems to his team; in that regard, EVCS Intelligibility has become a major responsibility that provides a new and distinct challenge.

David Sylvester is the Director of Research and Industry Affairs at Mircom Group of Companies in Toronto. David has over 22 years of engineering experience, within fire protection and life safety systems and with related services, as a designer, building systems manager and consultant. He is an accredited Master Electrician/Electronic Technician with experience in electrical/fire alarm instruction/training. He provides instruction on the Canadian Electrical Code at George Brown College and Fire Protection Engineering at Seneca College. David is 1st Vice President of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) and Chair of the National Education Committee for the CFAA.
